Too Faced Totally Cute Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Too Faced Totally Cute Eyeshadow Palette
Too Faced Totally Cute Eyeshadow Palette ($36.00 for 0.39 oz.) is a new, limited edition nine-pan eyeshadow palette with several neutral shades and a few pops of color. One of the selling points is that the palette has a soft pink exterior that was designed for you to decorate with stickers, which are included. (If you purchased directly from Too Faced, you’ll get an additional sticker sheet.) I wish I could say it was a decent palette, but I actually found it surprisingly difficult to apply, even when I used it with Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance Primer. The difference in application with primer was minor, while the longevity was the most improved by primer. The mattes were thinner, and they didn’t blend as well with the denser, metallic shades. The standout shades were Clover and Storm Cloud, but shades like Shooting Star, I Love TF, and Meow! were more time-consuming to use.
Double Scoop is a pale, yellowed beige with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was very silky and smooth, but it kicked up excess product. On my coloring, it is chalky and doesn’t work as a brow bone highlighter (too stark) — that doesn’t impact the rating, it’s just a note I’m passing on. It started to fade after seven hours of wear. Urban Decay Anonymous (LE, $19.00)(100% similar). Inglot #355 (P, $6.00)(100% similar). Smashbox Vanilla (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). Pretty Vulgar Nocturnal (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Bunny Fu-Fu is a medium-dark, burnt orange with warm undertones and a matte finish. While very finely-milled, it was dusty and thin to work with, which made it very hard to use on bare skin, and even using Too Faced’s Primer didn’t fix it, as it didn’t adhere as well as it should have. I had some fall out when used, as some of the eyeshadow would dust and sheer out (even after tapping off excess prior to getting the brush near my lid). It lasted for six and a half hours on me before fading. LORAC Tangerine (LE, $19.00)(100% similar). Inglot #123R Top (PiP, $6.00) is lighter (95% similar). Chocolate Donut is a deep, slightly muted plum with warm, brown undertones and a mostly matte finish. (There appeared to be subtle sparkle strewn thorugh the pan of product, but I really didn’t detect it when I used it.) The texture was soft and smooth, but a little dusty, and again, it tended to sheer out and did not apply evenly on bare skin. It had semi-opaque coverage, and it was not buildable beyond that (it just kept sheering out!). The color faded noticeably after seven hours. Marc Jacobs Beauty Little Miss (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Tarte Mulberry & Bright (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Too Faced Risky Biz (PiP, $16.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Shooting Star is a light, golden beige with warm undertones and a fine, frosted shimmer. The texture felt silky-smooth to the touch, but it was also the type of eyeshadow where some of the shimmer separated away from the base color, so it can be a little messier to work with and harder to blend out without getting shimmer in unintended places. This one might work better over a sticky base, as Too Faced’s own standard primer did not improve it. It started to fade after seven hours of wear. Giorgio Armani Gold Ashes (12) (DC, $39.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). ColourPop Lace Up (PiP, $4.50) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Devotion (PiP, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Anastasia Blush (LE, $12.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Crème-filled (LE, $22.00) is lighter (95% similar). Viseart Kifu (PiP, ) is lighter (90% similar). Natasha Denona Faye (279M) (PiP, $29.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Nude Dip #1 (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Clover is a pop of medium, grassy green with strong, warm yellow undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, smooth consistency that was blendable and easy to work with on bare skin. This shade started to crease after seven and a half hours of wear. Unicorn is an iridescent, very light white with a pinkish sheen. It had mostly opaque pigmentation with a denser, firmer texture that wasn’t difficult to use, but it was noticeably firmer compared to most of Too Faced’s eyeshadows (particularly for their more shimmery shades). This shade started to crease after seven hours of wear. BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes 2 #15 (PiP, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). NYX Frostbite (P, $6.00) is brighter (95% similar). I Love TF is a bright, medium fuchsia pink with cooler, blue undertones and a sparkly, lightly frosted finish. The texture was looser and drier in the pan, and I had a lot of trouble getting this shade to adhere to the skin–bare lids or primer–as it would immediately fade and look patchy. It might work better wet and/or over a tacky base. I had to layer it five or six times just to get it show up marginally in the eye look, and I had to just pat it on and avoid blending it in order to keep any of it visible. This eyeshadow lasted five hours on me before fading significantly. Urban Decay Cake (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Too Faced New Money (LE, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). Sephora Magenta (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Too Faced Totally Fetch (PiP, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). ColourPop September (LE, $4.50) is more muted, warmer (90% similar). Meow! is a blackened purple with warm undertones and a satiny sheen. It had decent pigmentation with a lightly dusty consistency. The eyeshadow could have diffused and blended more readily along the edges, as it had a drier, more dragged out appearance without using a more forgiving eyeshadow to soften the edges. It lasted for seven hours on me before fading noticeably. Dior Eclectic #5 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). ColourPop Straight Trippin' (LE, $6.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). Tarte Glamorous (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Jungle Love (LE, $16.00) is cooler (90% similar). bareMinerals Center Stage (PiP, ) is lighter, more muted (90% similar). I have absolutely NO interest in this palette. None, whatsoever. Too Faced is starting to lose me with their overly “cute” aesthetic. I love their Chocolate Bar palette, but they need to Give me something innovative!
Hopefully they make something that appeals to you soon!
I would love to see them expand their permanent line over pumping out soooo pan of these palettes instead. Please don’t take the MAC route Too Faced. I don’t mind the colab’s but there seems to be a new 1-2 palettes every month for the past year they are promoting.
The are launching new eyeliner and concealer that are totally get down played…..
Also to bad about I Love TF shade. Dang it’s vibrant and looks smooth.
I agree Leah!
Not great, but also not an utter fail, either. The eye look over primer looks thoroughly awesome, especially considering that some of these shades are a PITA to blend! I probably won’t get it, which is a shame since I know it would give me a hearty LoL every time I used it….and lately I REALLY need a good laugh!
As an aside: I totally LOVE how you decorated yours! ?
I think it might have been better with more satin/pearl shades instead of shimmers or just more pearls/satins and only two mattes!
That may be a poor-performing palette but oh my god, the look you created with it is stunning!
Thanks, Tammy!
Agreed!!!
(*Sigh*) This brings out the girlie in me! I only have a couple of TF palettes – Chocolate Bon Bons and Cat Eyes – so I might just treat myself to this one, especially as my birthday’s coming up 🙂
Hope you can check it out and see if it works for you!
Oh no, must be disappointing for people looking forward to this palette. IDK, I feel like Too Faced hypes some of their palettes to death ( Sweet Peach, Peanut Butter Jelly), but the quality doesn’t match the hype. I do like Clover and Storm Cloud, so will be checking the dupes list, but not feeling this palette. Also feel like the color combo is odd, kind of hard to get a complete eye look out of this palette, which is what I buy palettes for
It’s not the most intuitive palette, I think, when it comes to color combinations!
I was just looking over the stickers and noticed….aren’t those pink furry handcuffs???? What’s up with that?? It kind of looks out of place here, with all the unicorns, bunnies, stars….
How disappointing! I guess that’s money saved for me. I had such high hopes for this palette after the recent Peanut Butter palette (which I really enjoyed). The looks you created here are very pretty though!
This summer I’m limiting myself to one palette and it was either this or the Anastasia Renaissance palette. Easy choice now.
Glad you could make a choice! 🙂
I love the looks you make. I’ve been trying to copy how you do different colours on the lower lashline but I think I’m using the wrong brush. What brush do you use for that?
I use MAC 239s a lot, but I have no idea what I used here (I don’t keep track of the brushes – I go through about 100 different ones each week).
I don’t find this palette appealing but the eye look that you created is beyond stunning! x
Aw, thanks Pavithra!
Well, I already ordered this because a few of the shades are pretty unique to my collection, and I expected it to be a little better performing. I guess I’m still gonna give it a try. Hopefully I can still make those troublesome shades work.
Hope it works for you, Tiffany!
I get the feeling this was their attempt (and pretty spectacular failure) at kawaii/decora. Too Faced, what are you doing?
It must be!
It is not for me. I don’t actually like the colors. But I don’t buy Too Faced eyeshadows. Years ago I got the natural at night palette and it was so much fall out and the fall out was hurting my eyes so I have passed on their eyeshadows since then. Guess that is not fair based on only one palette but on the other hand as soon as I notice there is one eyeshadow with glitter then I know it could be the same as previous so better stay away.
Oh no, your poor eyes! 🙁
I thought I wanted this palette and was going to get it during the Ulta Platinum 20% off sale. It was out of stock at all of the stores near me. I could have bought it online, but then I’d have to pay shipping, which would eat up the discount. Plus I am getting tired of Too Faced’s very limited edition palettes and the lack of availability. Not worth the trouble, and I’ll just stick with their Melted Lips. I ended up getting other things I wanted in the store, and came across a real bargain as well. Mally Loving Life Palette, last one left. Originally $50, reduced to $22.97 minus the 20% off, came to $18.37 for eleven really nice shades plus primer, and it is in pristine condition.
Glad you found something else to tempt you instead 🙂
Wow apparently I have a ton of dupes for Bunny Fu fu and none for storm cloud!!!! ? Only one or two for Clover but they’re not very close… I think I just need to buy some of the clover and storm cloud especially, as that’s such an incredible color. I’m in LOOOOOVE with the look you created!!!! Saved it to try to replicate! ??
Thanks a lot, Bonnie!
Totally bummed. This palette contained several colors similar to the ones I liked in the Eve Pearl Sapphire palette I like so much but the quality isn’t there. The colors are: Bunny fu fu, Storm Cloud, and Meow. Sad. I won’t buy bc the others aren’t good.
The look you created is amazing. It never fails to amaze me that you can combine so.many colors so well.
Thank you, Susan! You are too kind!
Oh, no. Too bad it fell short. You still did an amazing eye look with it, though!
Thanks, Chris!
lol, I don’t even care, I love the aesthetic of this palette! It’s fun, a little goofy, in a good way! I love “cute”, but the swatches aren’t good enough for me. Pass, but…I might break down and get it! lol!
If you like it, that’s all that matters!
The only colour I really loved was Storm Cloud – but since I have Editor’s Pick from bareMinerals already, I have an excellent dupe for this colour. It seems to me that this is a bit of a random selection of colours and 3 of the very light colours could easily look quite similar to each other on the eye.
As usual Christine, a beautiful eye look.
Thank you, Genevieve! 🙂
Thanks, C, bec this is not on the floor live yet. You ruled this one out for me. Might do the buxom twilight tryst dupe. Lots of us have better dupes than than these versions, esp of the base shades. Don’t think you analyzed me out of ABH mod ren, though. That is a stunner, live. Picked up 2 Gwen eyes for Xmas presents, but not for myself. LOTS of them at my local S, but none at Ulta, for reader info. Love it, when you save me money!
PS: they need to work on their naming skills. Meow is pale beige and Meow! is blackened purple. C’mon, tf. Guess dog noises aren’t cute. Personally, I’d by virtually any shade named harsh bark or puppy whine.
Twilight Tryst seems like a more interesting option, IMO, with its undertone at the very least!
Shame it’s not better performing! I’ve ordered this, I just love the looks of the greens and luckily, they’re good ones! I can live with an otherwise OK palette, it’s not as expensive as say, Charlotte Tilbury or Tom Ford. And your look is an inspiration in how to use them together ?.
P.s. Lorac Tangerine is down as one of the dupes for the Totally Cute shade, maybe it’s meant to be another dupe? Another great review though!
It’s showing up as dupes for the Palette as a whole (which has dupes, they are just by shades) 🙂 Totally Cute is the name of the palette, not of any of the eyeshadows. We added the ability to view dupes by palette (so they are all grouped together) a couple of months ago!
Ah, got you now! Sorry, I came down with the flu yesterday so I can only say I wasn’t looking properly, it just looked odd because there was one orange shade in a list of 4 light shades, lol! That’s pretty cool you can look for straight dupes for a palette straight away ?, rather than searching.
WOW! What an eye look. Beautiful!
Thanks, Melanie!
I absolutely love the look you’ve created with this palette! I have dupes that are close enough to recreate this look. 🙂
Storm Cloud immediately reminded me of UD’s Loaded, and I <3 TF reminds me A LOT of the pink in the YSL Couture Palette #9.
It definitely has some similarities, though I think Loaded might run bluer/less nuanced since it is so dark!
That pink looks so pretty! Too bad it was hard to work with. A few good colors like the lime one but not enough to save this palette.
So sad! Too Faced can do that color well!
Overall I think it looks good, with the exception of a few shades. But yeah, I wouldn’t mind adding this to my collection.
Enjoy!
The grade is disappointing, though I usually have good luck with Too Faced 9-pan palettes. I’ll have to think about this one.
I decided to order it and see whether I can make it work.
I hope you can try it in-store sometime!
Storm Cloud is really pretty.
It is!
What a bummer, the swatches looked lovely. Well, I haven’t noticed this palette being as hyped up as the Sweet Peach, maybe the leftovers will end up at Nordstrom Rack — I might still get it if it were half price.
Fingers crossed for ya, Lisa!
I love Too Faced packaging. I know it’s kind of cutesy and obnoxious, but for me it’s different than your typical black, sleek packaging. However, this palette does not appeal to me at all. I feel like it’s a pass.
Money saved!
I fall in love with green. That color is so amazing on me so that green won my heart and the browns. As for the packaging, I’d feel a bit high schoolish with it so for the packaging alone, I won’t be picking it up and I wanted to try it but not with that 4th grade design on it. They do know we like packaging right? lol
The green is very pretty!
I don’t typically comment here but I have to say, I really want those stickers! I don’t know if I want them enough to buy the whole palette but it’s definitely making me think!
Aww!
I absolutely love the 2 greens and the pink. But I keep having flashbacks of how bad the stickers on my elementary school notebook began to look after a while, so I’m turned off by the packaging. Thinking about it. Love all of my other Too Faced 9 shade palettes.
Yeah, I’m not sure if they’ll hold up well! They have clear edges, so that might help.
Too Faced products is the major brand in my collection, but this misses the mark for me-very disappointed for several reasons. For starters,I like cute and girly but this is beyond childish for a prestige brand.I feel like it was thrown together, odd color choices…no,just no.
Thanks for sharing!
To me, this palette looks like a cute gift for a fourteen year old girl who is beginning to get interested in makeup. And that’s it.
I received mine, and I really love it (mostly). I have to use primer because of my oily lids, but everything except I <3 TF is gorgeous, pigmented, and easy to blend. Christine, you weren't kidding about I <3 TF. It's the worst shade I've ever used from the brand. It wouldn't stick to my eyelid, even with primer. It's a dry glitter bomb with tons of fallout. It absolutely has to have a sticky base. (I was able to make it work with Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Beige.) I would have rather Too Faced repeated Totally Fetch, Cotton Candy, or Bubblegum than included this shade.
Thank you so much for the update, Rachel! 😀
