Peanut Butter and Honey

Too Faced Peanut Butter and Honey Eyeshadow Palette ($36.00 for 0.38 oz.) contains nine eyeshadows, most of them neutral in type with a pop of darker yellow. It’s the pop of yellow that is “different” in a sea of warmer neutrals that we have seen (even by Too Faced!). The look I put together with this palette reminded me a lot of the one I did for Viseart Warm Mattes, but the latter was much easier to create. The Viseart palette is more expansive and well-rounded so the yellow shade worked more. Obviously, though, it’s over double the cost of Too Faced’s palette. They’re listed below, but if you already have a collection of warmer neutrals, you might consider picking up a single like ColourPop Paper Tiger or Make Up For Ever M408 Mustard to recreate the feel of this palette yourself.

It’s supposed to be scented with the smell of peanut butter and honey (duh), but it just smelled like sweet vanilla to me. I don’t know if my sense of smell was off or no, as the Sweet Peach palette definitely had a noticeably different scent than just vanilla.

Creamed Honey

Creamed Honey is a light beige with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-sheer color coverage with a soft but rather powdery texture; this one had a lot of fallout if I did not tap of excess and made some of the deeper shades in the palette look chalky when blended with them. This shade wore well for seven hours on me.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Magnesium Myristate, Dimethicone, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Octyldodecyl Stearate, Sodium Saccharin, Flavor (Aroma), Vanillin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder/Theobroma Cacao Fruit Powder, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Carmine (CI 75470). May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985).

Peanut Butter

Peanut Butter is a medium, orange-brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It seemed less yellow-based (and instead, more reddish) compared to the previously released version. The consistency was drier and looser, so it was prone to sheeringout. It had medium, somewhat buildable coverage that started to fade after seven hours of wear.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Magnesium Myristate, Dimethicone, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Octyldodecyl Stearate, Sodium Saccharin, Flavor (Aroma), Vanillin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder/Theobroma Cacao Fruit Powder, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Carmine (CI 75470). May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985).

Going Nuts

Going Nuts is a deep brown with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It was drier, firmer, and difficult to blend out. Normally, Too Faced’s shimmery eyeshadows aren’t bad, but this was one of the worst I’ve encountered. I would have expected this shade to be a slam dunk, so I was beyond surprised when it was terrible. It lasted for seven hours before fading on me.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Octyldodecyl Stearate, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Sodium Saccharin, Silica, Flavor (Aroma), Vanillin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder/Theobroma Cacao Fruit Powder, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Carmine (CI 75470), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77499), Copper Powder (CI 77400), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090).

Bee Sweet

Bee Sweet is a light pink with warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was soft, smooth, but felt chalky and was prone to sheering out and leaving little behind. It just had the type of texture that flew away–think of how finely-milled a translucent setting powder might be and that’s what this felt like. It had sheer coverage that had all but vanished by the fifth hour of wear.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Magnesium Myristate, Dimethicone, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Octyldodecyl Stearate, Sodium Saccharin, Flavor (Aroma), Vanillin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder/Theobroma Cacao Fruit Powder, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Tin Oxide, Carmine (CI 75470), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140).

Honey Brittle

Honey Brittle is a brighter, medium orange with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that did not build up that well, but a primer did help this one out a lot with respect to coverage. The texture was soft, firm but blendable enough that it wasn’t the worst shade in the palette. It stayed on nicely for seven hours on me.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Magnesium Myristate, Dimethicone, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Octyldodecyl Stearate, Sodium Saccharin, Flavor (Aroma), Vanillin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder/Theobroma Cacao Fruit Powder, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Carmine (CI 75470). Bee's Knees

Bee’s Knees is a medium-dark brown with warm, rusty undertones and flecks of gold sparkle over a matte finish. The pigmentation was decent, and it was buildable (even without a primer). The sparkles did not bind with the base color, so they were not too visible in practice. The texture was soft, a little dusty but blendable and went on evenly. It started to fade after seven and a half hours.

Queen Bee

Queen Bee is a light beige with warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied evenly, though the texture was dusty and had a tendency to cause the product to kick up in the pan and drop when applied. This shade wore well for six and a half hours on me.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Magnesium Myristate, Dimethicone, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Octyldodecyl Stearate, Sodium Saccharin, Flavor (Aroma), Vanillin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder/Theobroma Cacao Fruit Powder, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Carmine (CI 75470). Honey Buns

Honey Buns is a brighter, mustardy yellow with warm undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was decent, somewhat buildable, but prone to darkening on the lid as the texture was thinner and somewhat dusty. It lasted for seven hours on me before fading.

Feelin’ Nutty is a medium-dark brown with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a fairly soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too dusty or too thin. It wore well for seven hours before fading on me.

I’m so glad I did not give it to my initial “must have” reaction and passed on this.

With the exception of the large Chocolate Bar palettes, I think I am done with TooFaced.

Bullet dodged on this one!

Ginny Avatar

Confused by this one. The PB&J palette (though I ultimately didn’t purchase) was fun because it allowed for a mix of oranges and purples. But Peanut Butter and Honey… while a delicious combo in life… are in the same color family so where can you really go from there. I’m surprised there wasn’t at least a variety in finishes – more shimmers – to spice this up.

I have been eyeing the MUFE Mustard color…

Katherine T. Avatar

I’ve never bought one of these Too Faced LE shadow palettes (Sweet Peach, Orig PBJ, White Chocolate Chip, etc. ). If they only lived up to 1/2 their hype! I don’t know how they can keep suckering people into buying these, when the quality just isn’t there

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

I bought this through early access, swatched it, and wore it over the weekend. On swatches (which like you I do with no primer) the pans were all dusty and the lightest shades were poorly pigmented; 2 weren’t even visible on my skin! The remainder of the shades were so-so. I knew I’d have to do something to make the palette usable so I used the MAC Paint Pot as my eye primer – the yellow-toned one (soft ochre). That was exactly the fix this palette needed. All of the shadows became visible including the ones that were poorly pigmented. Everything was blendable (although they were still dusty in pan). All of the shadows wore all day with no fall-out or fading or creasing. But all that said, the shades just don’t work for me as they aren’t flattering so I’ve already set this aside to give away to a friend.

kjh Avatar

Wait, what? Made in Canada, but you can’t get it there? There’s something wrong with THAT picture. Maybe even more wrong than the palette itself. tf has certainly not redeemed itself with this one. Ulta needs to move into the great white north! Maybe SDM and some others make too stiff a competition.

Shannon. N Avatar

YEP! You’re TOTALLY right KJH!

we DO NOT have Ulta up here, and they do not ship to us! So ANYTHING that’s a ulta exclusive, we don’t get!

I have a good friend in NYC who we swap products with. I send her QUO, Annabelle, Joe Fresh, and she sends me Lorac, and any other American only brands!!!

Mariella Avatar

So, in addition to the concern that many of us have about this growing trend to putting needless scent in this thing, it’s also a really shoddy offering. Stuff like this really can cost companies otherwise loyal customers. I really used to enjoy Too Faced’s eyeshadow palettes and their holiday face palettes but I’m turning away from them and I’m sure I can’t be the only one.

Lulle Avatar

I don’t know what’s wrong with Too Faced but they seriously need to stop releasing more food-inspired cute palettes that perform poorly. It’s making me question the quality of all of their new launches, including some that were potentially decent (like their peach glosses), so I’m not buying anything from them anymore. And I used to be a Too Faced fan, they’re the first brand I collected!

Susan Avatar

Well, I got this one but am ambivalent. It smells like neither peanut butter nor honey, kind of a sweet, weird-plastic smell, yuck. The shadows are so-so but certainly not great. I think it’ll work OK for me over primer, but overall think I’m pretty much done with Too Faced. When I think about the first TF palette I got (the all-matte one years ago that’s no longer made) and how much the quality has dropped off, it’s sad.

Susan Avatar

I got the plastic smell with the TF holiday palette set I got too, so I think it’s just me. Whatever the reason, I’ve decided to return this PB&H palette. No sense knocking myself out trying to make it work, or having something that stinks, to boot.

Think I’m done with TF unless they seriously turn the quality issues around.

Cherie Avatar

Disappointed.

I don’t have the chocolate bar palette, but I have the TF natural eyes palette which I just love for easy neutral pulled together looks. I missed out on the peanut butter and jelly, but hopefully they will listen to consumers and put out better quality products.

Kat Avatar

I’ve been so disappointed lately with Too Faced palettes. The original Chocolate Bar is my favorite palette ever and I know people love a lot of their older smaller palettes in this format. I like their concepts but the quality has just gone downhill. It’s especially sad because I feel like drugstore and budget brands have totally surpassed brands like Too Faced.

Kelly Avatar

I’ve been wearing this for a few days and have found the performance to be much better than you experienced. I’m pretty happy with it. My only issue with this palette is Going Nuts – for some reason it comes off as completely charcoal grey on me! It just doesn’t work with any other color in the palette. I was hoping for this to be my new travel palette but without a dark accent color it will probably be staying home.

Beth Avatar

Is it still too early for us to start saying “typical TooFaced” when these bad reviews come out? They couldn’t even get Peanut Butter right, and the whole point of this and the PBJ palettes is supposed to be how popular Peanut Butter is. (And it is great when it’s in a good formula, I have blue eyes and PB does great things for them.)

Melanie Avatar

Ugh. This is beyond disappointing. I used to really love Too Faced and have a slew of their 9-pan palettes, as well as the first two chocolate bars. But it seems like their quality has gone sharply downhill in the last two years or so, with the brand relying far more on social media hype than decent product to make their sales. A friend convinced me to take a hard pass on the Sweet Peach palette during its initial launch and buy something from Etude House off of Amazon instead and I’m so glad I did. Some of us makeup junkies actually expect our makeup to look cute on us instead of just in the pan.

LaMaitresse Avatar

It just looks so, naff. Our expert deemed it mediocre, and it is sadly so. That large palette coming out soon looks bit more promising from Too Faced, not so Tween, bit more adult and quality focused?

Toni Avatar

What is going on with Too Faced lately? Shades scoring F and D – is another sure sign of a rushed production. I don’t get why some companies feel the need to release a palette every couple of months – the money I suppose! I’m kinda over the warm palettes at the moment, as the market is saturated with them. As in saying that, these do look lovely on you Christine. Thank you for sharing. X

kjh Avatar

Wonder if the PB palettes are banned stateside in the middle/jr high schools. PB is, most places, due to allergy. That’d rip them a new one, bec middle schoolers are the only ones who would fall for this dreck.

Jessica M Avatar

I’ve been almost trying to *force* myself to love this palette because the packaging is just so perfect for me but I seriously cannot believe I think I’m going to have to pass on it. $36 and I don’t even see one shade in this palette I feel like I need. ?? And it’s not just you. I feel like every one of the few reviews I’ve found so far has been disappointing. Why can’t they just start making these empty cases like z-palettes so I can put my loose pans of shadow in the cute case?

Victoria Avatar

This really breaks my heart… no kidding, I feel incredibly devastated seeing this have a low score. I loved the color scheme and my boyfriend almost got me this, I had to tell him to get me something else on my birthday because I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews.

I feel broken that Too Faced is kind of going down hill as they were my first high end makeup that I’ve ever bought, (as Estée Lauder was my first I’ve worn because of my mom) I had loved them for many years. I look over to my Budoir Eyes, Semi Sweet chocolate bar, Cat Eyes, and Sweet Peach palette.. I loved them all. Maybe it’s good I didn’t get it but.. I am deeply sadden by this.

Sylvia Avatar

I had the same experience as you. The quality was terrible! I returned mine, and it was the first time I have ever returned makeup, so that’s saying something!

Isa Avatar

Maybe the problem is that they know that people will buy them even if the quality is bad. It seems that everything sells out these days, even the stuff that gets bad reviews, as long as it’s hyped up by (maybe paid) influencers on social media.

Sure, there will be more returns for a shoddy product, but I think not enough people do it to make a significant dent to their bottom line. Also, they sell world-wide and a generous return policy is not the norm in every market unfortunately. Sephora in my country only accepts opened products if there is a manufacturing defect. People who are simply unhappy with the quality of a product, or if they just don’t like it, are out of luck.

Kimberly Avatar

I’m surprised about this since I love the PB&J so much (I even bought a backup!). Maybe I’ll get it just to accumulate some Ulta points lol. Thanks for the honest review!

marmars Avatar

starting to get real weary of too faced as a brand. they seem to have fun ideas once in a while and put out really cute packaging, but it almost feels as if they’ve grown in popularity so much that they no longer feel a need to look after the quality of their products.

Beverly Avatar

I’ve read the review plus comments from those who got the palette. I am actually, honestly so offended that they messed this up. This my favorite snack as a child. I own two products from TF: a lipstick that makes my lips feel weird and a pressed powder. Both are almost gone. I’m using them up and then I’m done with this brand.

RIP Too Faced. Estee Lauder can’t save you.

Shiva Avatar

I think Too Faced is just going through a phase. I believe a lot of the palettes and products that have been pushed during this past year was to buff up their books for their sale to Este Lauder. Hopefully once the brand is fully settled in their new home they’ll be able to focus more on product quality and consistency. I haven’t lost hope yet, but I will be saving my hard earned coin for their better releases.

Megan Avatar

Thank you for your honesty. I’ll be shocked if I don’t see 100 videos raving about this product in the next week or so (and then no mention of it ever again).

Melissa Avatar

Thanks so much for all the work you put in to your reviews! I really love my PB&J palette and I’m obsessed with Too Faced’s cute packaging but i’m soo over buying makeup with poor performance just because the package is cute. I’ll be skipping this palette even though I was really looking forward to it. Lately I don’t buy any Too Faced palettes until I read your review first!
