Warm Mattes (10)

Viseart Warm Mattes (10) Eyeshadow Palette ($80.00 for 0.84 oz.) is an unabashedly warm-toned palette filled with a mix of beige, brown, orange, and red. There are a lot of yellow and orange-based shades here. The palette worked well on its own, but it was easy to incorporate with other Viseart palettes as well. Overall, the quality was consistent with my past experience with Viseart’s matte formula–pigmented, long-wearing, and blendable.

Beurre (Warm Mattes #1)

Warm Mattes #1 is a light, buttery yellow with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, velvety consistency that blended out easily and lasted for eight hours on me.

Formula Overview

-

The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be "pigment[ed]" with "smooth and even application" that is "long-lasting." The matte shades are typically semi-opaque to opaque but buildable with soft, velvety textures that can sometimes be a little powdery or slightly firm, depending on the shade. I find that the mattes are often best suited to someone who likes control over pigmentation and may prefer to build up color; they regularly perform better in practice than just swatched on the arm as well.

The shimmer shades range from satin to metallic, and the more metallic shades tend to feel creamier to the touch, while the satin ones have a fine pearl to them that looks almost melted on the lid once blended out. Both the mattes and shimmers are blendable and easy to work with. Most of Viseart's eyeshadows wear between seven and nine hours on me.

Warm Mattes #3

Warm Mattes #3 is a soft brown with warm, yellow-orange undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was mostly opaque, buildable to full coverage in two layers, and had a silky, smooth texture that wasn’t too soft or too firm in the pan. Saffron (Warm Mattes #4)

Warm Mattes #4 is a bright, sunshine yellow with a satin finish. The pigmentation was fantastic–totally opaque–paired with a smooth, blendable consistency that applied nicely to bare skin. The powder blended out without losing its intensity, and the color stayed true for eight and a half hours on me.

Warm Mattes #6 is a bright, tangerine orange with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. Warm Mattes #7 is a medium brown with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, which was buildable to opaque coverage with a layer and a half of product. Warm Mattes #8 is a bold, burnt orange with warm, red undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was intense, while the texture was smooth, velvety, and blendable on the skin. There was enough substance to it that the color didn’t become powdery, and it applied with the same intensity as seen in the pan on bare skin. It started to fade after nine hours of wear.

Nutmeg (Warm Mattes #10)

Warm Mattes #10 is a muted, medium-dark brown with subtle, reddish undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a soft, lightly dusty texture. This was one of the lesser shades in the palette, though it was by no means bad–it was buildable and still very blendable, so I didn’t notice its shortcomings when working with it.

Mocha (Warm Mattes #11)

Warm Mattes #11 is a muted, dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was nearly opaque, while the consistency felt soft, smooth, and just a touch dusty. I didn’t notice fallout when applying it to the lid, though, and it diffused and blended in the right places without issue. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Brick (Warm Mattes #12)

Warm Mattes #12 is a deep, muted red with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, velvety texture that applied and blended out nicely on the skin. Though it was a richer, deeper shade, it was never difficult to use, whether I used it on the lid or in the crease. This shade started to fade after nine hours on me.

This palette is such a winner. I was really worried I was going to ‘need to have’ this, but thankfully, after seeing your swatches, I noticed that while it is a GORGEOUS selection, I do actually have the majority of these shades. Viseart is a very smart brand in the way they package their products. It’s almost deceptive: they look very understated (the packaging itself isn’t exactly LOADED with glitz and glam) but the arrangement of the colors inside is almost hypnotic. I’ve noticed this with a couple of their palettes, especially the Editorial Brights. They seem to be laid out in a way that just DRAWS you in. I’m really thankful for this brand discovery from 2016!

That’s a perfect way to describe the design of the palettes. I meant to say they appear more minimalistic in appearance. But you are right about the sturdiness of the palette — I took my Dark Mattes to a friend’s house the night it came in and it bumped around a bit. I didn’t notice any powder kickup or scuffing on the palette. Good stuff!

The packaging is geared towards professionals. It makes it easy to locate certain palettes in your kit when the top is clear. They also made them that way so that they are more indestructible in case a palette is dropped by accident. They really have thought of everything. It’s actually a really good deal at just under $7 a shadow. This one in particular is laid out for different skin tones: 3 for base, 3 lid colors, and 3 eye contours, as well as 3 transformative shades (far right column) in case you want to add warmth or heat to any of the other shades, they are also gorgeous on their own. 🙂

Yes, this is for me. Light to medium warm neutrals are my core, and I’d use every shade in this set so a high ROI for me. I was going to wait until the next credit card cycle but don’t think I’m going to make it. So happy this is permanent.

3/5, 9/10. Reeeeal close. But that says to me that halo and gradient should be very easy with this palette. Agree that the color pops ( no U intended) are the hits here. I’m pretty duped up (surprisingly) though this is majorly stunning. It’s really an epitome of that color spectrum. Another bravo for Viseart.

It looks wonderful and I think it will do well! Somehow I am less impressed by my Viseart matte eyeshadow palettes though. I prefer Makeup Geek matte shadows, which always surprises people!

What a great quality palette! And I love that warm glow look you’ve done. I could pull off the paler browns, the peach and possibly the orange and dark red but not the dark browns or the yellow so it’s a pass for me. But interesting to see Viseart’s take on the warm mattes trend!

Ive been curious about the Viseart palettes for quite some time. This one is beautiful but I have such a difficult time choosing which palette to begin with. I finally found a small 8 color palette that contains 4 mattes and 4 shimmers. It’s called appropriately “Petit Palette”. I love it. Amazing quality and beautiful colors. I plan to by a full sized palette a few times a year now.

I am happy that a few are dupes for MAC Kid – never got around to getting that single and now it’s discontinued (I have it in one of the Nutcracker Eye palettes, but still . . ). I bought this pretty much just for the oranges and reds. I don’t have a whole lot in my stash and this rounds it out nicely.

Hi Christine,

I was wondering if you know anything about its rumored formula change. I heard some people say it can be quite chalky. Also I was wondering, from your experience, how would you rate this matte eyeshadow compared to Makeup Geek matte eyeshadow (spreadable-ness , coloration, texture, longevity, etc).

Christine Avatar

I don’t – I believe any changes were made were done years ago, and I’m not sure I have more than one palette that has a different list (at least, that I recall when I heard murmurings about it) – which is probably the original matte palette.

My rating system is the same – an A is an A is an A – assuming the claims for the formulations are similar, which they are for Makeup Geek and Viseart eyeshadows, so it would really come down to individual eyeshadows as some Makeup Geek shades are great and others are misses. Viseart is more consistent for me on the whole!
