The Estee Edit Gritty & Glow Magnetic Eye & Face Palette
The Estee Edit Gritty & Glow Magnetic Eye & Face Palette ($58.00 for 1.62 oz.) includes six eyeshadows and six cheek colors. Even though neither palette seems that large, they both contain a ton of product, and for the price point, I think it’s an excellent value for mid-to-high-end sets. It’s hard to tease out the value, as the permanent range doesn’t seem to have these products in it. The eyeshadow formula is dense, thick, and very pigmented, and it lasted between seven and eight and a half hours before creasing. The cheek color formula wasn’t quite as dense, which was good, as if it had been, it would have been hard to pick up color with a blush brush; instead, it was soft, dense enough to have a richness to it and opaque pigmentation, but it blended out easily and sat well on the skin. The cheek colors lasted between seven and nine hours on me. Also, the “Face” palette is actually a “Face and Eye” palette, so they can be used on the eyes as well (per the brand) — that bit is actually what took me longer to test the set as I had to go back and test the six cheek colors as eyeshadows (though three of the six cheek colors are very similar to the eyeshadows, so they seem redundant as eyeshadows)!
I don’t think that this is that similar to the Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Eye Palette, which has a lighter and darker gold/copper shade, a brighter blue, much warmer green, and then a warm brown instead of a burgundy. The texture is also much, much denser and thicker in the Estee Edit palette and feels more silicone-heavy, while the Victoria Beckham Eye Palette felt more like traditional powder eyeshadow, just richer in overall pigmentation. The Estee Edit eye palette reads cooler, smokier, and… grittier. I see an “at a glance” similarity, but when I start going shade by shade, I don’t see real dupes.
Swerve is a rich, medium-dark coppery brown with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The texture was dense, cream-like, and very, very smooth on the lid. It was intensely pigmented but still blended out beautifully on the skin. The color started to crease on me after eight and a half hours of wear. Stila Rose Gold (LE, $18.00) is warmer (95% similar). Riff is a light-medium peach with warm, golden shimmer and pink undertones. Burn is a deep burgundy-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satiny sheen. The pigmentation was incredibly opaque, while the texture was smooth, dense, and felt like a cream in the pan. It applied well to bare skin, and it blended out nicely without having to work at it. I noticed subtle signs of creasing after nine hours of wear. Wavy is a deep teal with a black base and a frosted shimmer. The texture of this one wasn’t quite as smooth, as it had larger sparkly bits in it, but it looked smooth and was intensely pigmented. Mood is a dark black with subtle, cool undertones and a smattering of silver and teal sparkle over a mostly matte finish. The consistency was a bit firmer compared to the other shades, and it did not seem as dense, which made it a more buildable eyeshadow. It had good pigmentation, which I was able to build up to true-to-pan color in two to three layers. It blended out fairly easily and lasted for eight hours on me. Trip is a blackened brown with tons of navy blue sparkle and shimmer. The consistency felt almost wet, and it wasn’t as dense as the other shades, though it still felt smooth to the touch. Of all the shades, this is the only one that was a bit harder to blend and diffuse, especially as the sparkle pulled away from the base, so the color looked less bluish in practice. I had some fall out over the eight hours this shade lasted for. Revlon Neptune Star (LE, $4.99) is more shimmery (90% similar). Viseart Poseidon (GPV2 #9) (P, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Antimatter (P, $4.50) is lighter (80% similar). Dior Reveuse (271) (LE, $31.00) is cooler (90% similar). Snowlit is a very light white gold with darker, warmer yellow gold shimmer. It had good color payoff with a denser, slightly thicker consistency in the pan, but it blended out easily on the skin and did not emphasize my skin’s natural texture. 14K Glow is a medium gold with warm, orange undertones and a frosted finish. It had opaque color coverage with a soft, denser texture that was easy to work with on the skin as it blended and diffused nicely. 1st Light is a light-medium peach with a warm, golden sheen. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage with a denser, slightly stiffer texture. This shade worked best when applied with a denser blush brush, and it did show up subtly as a pinkish-toned color on my skin tone (but it will be more of a highlighter on those darker than me). The product well for seven and a half hours on me as a blush and seven hours as an eyeshadow. NYX Girl Talk (P, $6.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Gleam is a medium peach with warm, copper undertones and a frosted shimmer-sheen finish. It had good pigmentation, while the consistency was soft, lightly dusty but appeared smooth and remained blendable on the skin. I thought this one might emphasize my skin’s natural texture, but it just yielded a luminous glow. It started to fade after eight hours on cheeks and seven and a half hours on eyes. Ray is a rich, medium-dark copper bronze with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It was very similar to Swerve within the eye palette. The consistency was softer, not quite as dense or as thick as Swerve, so it worked better as a cheek color (most cheek brushes are less dense than eye brushes). It had intense color payoff, and the texture emphasized my skin’s texture just slightly, but it blended out fine otherwise. On me, it lasted for eight hours before fading no the cheeks and eyes (slight creasing on the eyes after eight hours). Sydney Grace Sequoia (LE, $9.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Beachy is a medium-dark copper brown with warm undertones and a softer, golden sheen. This had more of a satin finish, so it didn’t appear as golden or as metallic on the skin compared to Ray. The texture was soft, lightly dusty, and fairly smooth, which made it easier to work with on the skin as it blended and diffused well on the skin. As a cheek color, it wore well for eight and a half hours, and as an eyeshadow, it lasted for eight hours. Anastasia Penny (LE, $25.00) is lighter (95% similar). Thank you thank you thank you for publishing this before the Sephora sale starts! I swatched this in store and really liked it, but I needed a second opinion and your in-depth reviews and testing are incredibly helpful. This one’s mine! I’ll probably have less use for the bottom 3 eyeshadows, but at 20% off and everything being high quality it’s totally worth it.
I’m so sorry for taking so long to review everything! I’m trying to get everything out as quickly as I can, but I’m completely behind. I’m sorry again! I’m glad that it at least is helpful before the sale for you.
omg, do not apologize! I am totally amazed at the quantity and QUALITY of reviews that you are getting done – good work, girl!
Thank you for understanding!!
I am willing to hold on to that Tarte Pro palette until I hear your review! Not only do I really take heed of what you say, but now you are making me work on my makeup self control! 🙂
WHO could keep up right now? The quantity of releases is nutz.
This is the one I’ve been so excited for! And it is exactly as I had hoped it would be, too. I actually love that the black shade is buildable, instead of an all at once dose of black. As for the blue losing its sparkle, I will apply it with either my fingertips, or oddly, a spongetip. Ever since seeing how well those dinosaurs work with UD Naked Smoky and a few Colourpop shadows to keep the glitter/sparkle with the base, I make sure that I always have them on hand for that reason.
Ordering this as my one VIB sale treat!
Awesome! It’s really quite good overall, and I like that the palettes are separated so they aren’t as bulky/hard to store 🙂
MAC actually has some silicone sponge-tips which are interesting for denser eyeshadows!
Christine, my daughter gave some several years ago, I found them to be confusing as heck! They are SO different from normal spongetips. But many swear by them, so it’s got to just be me. LoL
Sponge tips are literally the only way I can get a vibrant application of that gorgeous green in Chanel’s summer palette.
You are literally the first person I’ve ever seen suggest using a sponge tip applicator for those kinds of shadows. Every single time I watch a YouTube video where someone tosses those aside it drives me up the wall-they are so useful for difficult shadows!
I usually keep them in my disposable brush bag for craft projects myself. lol (if you’re going to through them out might as well use it first for unwashable glues)
They are good only for packing on colour. 😉
These palettes are soo pretty overall.
Right, Nicole?!? I don’t get why they do that with all of them. I mean, yes, some are really pretty crappy, but others are very nice! They lay down glitter bombs or shadows that have less binder in them better than a brush can.
Yay for spongetip applicators! I use them all the time for shimmery or even satiny shades that need to be patted on the lid. I must try those from Mac!
This seems like a great deal to me! I like how all of them swatch and they received good scores/grades overall! Never heard of the Estee Edit but well done to them. I might have to see if this is still available during the VIB sale.
I didn’t like anything I tried from the range before that much, but I liked this one!
Stunning!! I prefer the green and blue in this to the VB palette. Also like you said, great value and strange but pleasant concept. Wonder how they came to create something like this? Thanks for the review! Very much considering it now…
The eye look you created is stunning, Christine!
These look really pretty! I especially like that pink highlighter, probably as blush though. I don’t know why, but even though these look great I can’t get into the Estee Edit brand/line. Something about their youthful, fun kind of advertising just doesn’t appeal to me at all. I think it’s really weird for me to avoid buying good makeup because the advertising doesn’t appeal to me. I wish I didn’t feel that way.
What a lovely set to gift!
Thank you so much for this! I had hoped that the green in the Victoria Beckham palette would look more like the Charred Emerald single, but it looks like this one might be closer?
Charred Emerald is definitely closer!
Don’t worry Christine about trying to get everything done – there are only 24 hours in a day and you are doing your best……
A beautiful palette for sure. Gorgeous shades and a great rating. Thank goodness at least one brand is trying to up their game.
Not sure we get The Estée Edit here, to tell the truth, it’s been a long time since I visited an EL counter. I hope this will be available here, online or in stores I really like this set. One unusual colours for me, but I’m actually wearing a kind of blue today so I think this would be a nice addition to the stash.
This looks awesome! I haven’t explored Estee Lauder or this new line because I’m still stupidly stuck in the “Estee Lauder is an old lady brand” mentality. Definitely want to pick up these palettes and check out the brand now!
Very tempted by this after seeing the fabulous eye look you created – talk about STUNNING. I do have dupes of several of the shadows but, again, having them all in one place and the value this set represents makes it a hard one to resist!
I saw this in store, and was AMAZED how much product you get for $ 58! The pans are huge. I swatched the kit and thought some of the shadows had a formula similar to the City Color Shimmer Shadows – pigmented, dense, cream-like feel to them. And the highlighters were very nice. Good mix of colors too. Love the dramatic eye look you did
They are huge!
Pretty but not my overall style!
Thanks so much for your timely and detailed review of this palette. I quickly popped in to Sephora this week and passed the display with this palette. The pans are huge and I did think of the VB palette as I rushed by. The VB palette is better suited to me however this palette leaves me intrigued about Estee Edit and future releases.
I actually immediately thought of the VB palette when I saw the first pic, heh 🙂
Same!
Thanks for this review. Didn’t buy the VB because I thought the shades were too bright for me but I still wanted a wearable blue and green. This looks just right!
Waiting for the Tarte palette review as well!
Sounds perfect for you then, Ana!
Until now I didn’t realise it was TWO palettes for this price… That IS good value, especially since the quality is so good. Christine you rock this eyelook: wow!
Yep, they come together! 🙂
Yay! I ordered this last week and haven’t used it yet! I saw it recommended as one of the best of the Holidays on Stylecaster or something like that. Love this eye look! ❤️
Woohoo!! Hope you love it, Nicole!
I think this whole Estee Edit thing is trying waaayy too hard. But those swatches, omg, so beautiful…
The problem is that you can’t really market to millennials by telling them, “We’re trying really hard to get your dollars with this millennial line we’re doing…”
It’s amazing how much the eye palette resembles the Victoria Beckham x EL palette at first glance, and then doesn’t really, on closer inspection! And there is a lot of product for the $$ in this set. I feel tempted, even though the colors in the VB palette would go better with my eyes, and the cheek colors all lean so warm. But, I could use them on my eyes… or put them in my kit… this formula seems like one I would like to try. This is the first product from Estee Edit that’s caught my attention!
Right?? I had the same initial thought when I saw promos and even when I got it, but while it’s not a bad replacement for those who couldn’t get or didn’t want to spend for the VB one, it’s not quite the same at all!
Gritty is such an odd choice for an eyeshadow palette name! Anyways, it looks like a really nice duo of palettes, that set would make a great gift for a makeup enthusiast I think. The packaging is festive without being too Holiday themed.
I guess Gritty and Glow made more sense than Edgy and Glow… since I get what they mean by gritty, but with respect to eyeshadow, it’s not exactly what you’d want!
I definitely have this set in my cart for the VIB sale. To be honest, I didn’t expect this quality. Amazing!
Me neither, to be honest… I hadn’t been impressed by the brand before.
Oh mama….I just got home with this set about an hour ago. I immediately did my eyes (I wasn’t wearing much as I’d been planning to go straight to the gym but didn’t) so just pressed Swerve onto my inner 2/3 of my mobile lid and Burn on the outer 3rd. Already I am in LOOOOVE. I thought these would be way too glittery when I first looked at them (and that’s saying something, coming from me) but they’re not…they are perfection. Can’t wait to play with this some more and recreate the eye look you did with this palette.
Oooh, I am so glad, Mariella 🙂 The texture is so smooth with these!
Wow, I saw this in store today and only stopped to look because of the silver sparkly package on one of the palettes. I didn’t swatch or anything because the brand. I was like no way can that be good…
Now that I read your review I am thinking I may need it?!
I don’t know if I need this or the ABH Mario palette?
Christine,
I am hoping you get to this question before the weekend in time for the sephora sale. Between this highlight/blush palette which I adore
And for the price point that can’t be beat and that Bobbi brown shimmmer brick trio as far as textures and versatility which do you suggest? I’m a hoarder and haven’t had the opportunity to search either in store. Please help!
I would get this palette set, since it is a better value and more versatile overall 🙂
Good review. Wandering in Sephora and unexpectedly picked this up. It did make me think of the VB Estee collection. I don’t find the face highlighters so pigmented etc but the eye stuff is amazeballs. Crazy pigment and great texture. I definitely recommend this set. Hadn’t heard about it but really glad I saw it. I missed this review.
It’s 11:47 lol I’m staring at this lovely hoping if I send enough you will be mine energy out in a few minutes when it’s VIB go time, it WILL BE MINE! Tomorrow is for things I don’t worry will sell out, right now I have about 5 items in my anxious cart waiting for midnight lol I guess my cart is fine. I’m the anxious one.
Tis it me but the eyeshadow pallette remind me of my serpertina that came ouf from KVD? Still I keep going back and forth and just decided to get it since it’s the VIB sale.
Sort of!
My fingers are twitchy they want these palettes in them so much! My order can’t get here soon enough. I have a look in mind for me and one for my sister that I must create asap! Have you ever gotten so inspired by a look you see in your brain that you are actually antsy until you can try it out? Although the holiday stuff started so early this year you’re probably dreaming about looks by now!
I used to, but I think it’s been awhile since I was that excited by a palette, lol! Can’t wait for you to get yours 🙂
