Tarte Color Wheel Amazonian Clay Blush Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Tarte Color Wheel Amazonian Clay Blush Palette
Tarte Coor Wheel Amazonian Clay Blush Palette ($44.00 for 0.84 oz.) includes 10 blushes housed in a circular compact that opens and reveals five blushes on each side (there is no mirror as a result). Each pan is a decent size at 0.084 oz. a pop with a wide enough diameter that most blush brushes fit easily in them. The pans did not appear removable (I tried three pans with tweezers, and I didn’t feel any give). It would be a travel-friendly way to take so many blushes with you without taking up a lot of space.
The Amazonian Clay Blush formula is supposed to have 12-hour wear along with a “supremely soft” texture. There’s a lot to like about Tarte’s formula, as it is softer (sometimes dusty), blendable, and fairly smooth with good pigmentation, but for me, I rarely get 12-hour wear–I do get between 8 and 10-hour wear, though. Overall, the quality was consistent with the full-sized Tarte blushes I’ve tried with only one shade having a firmer, stiffer texture. I think they could have varied the colors used in the palette a bit more, but at least there is some variety in undertones and finishes. If you have a few blush palettes from Tarte, you may find that there is a lot of overlap, even if shades are not exact dupes, as the brand is prone to repeating itself each holiday! I think this a wish list worthy option for someone who is a big fan of Tarte’s formula or needs to have an instant blush stash.

Crafty is a light peach with warm undertones and gold shimmer. This will work more as a highlighter than a blush for most skin tones, though it has a whiter base, so deeper skin tones may want to layer it over another cheek color. The texture was soft, blendable, and did not emphasize my skin’s natural texture when applied. It wore well for eight and a half hours. Cle de Peau Delicate Pink (14) (P, $55.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Viseart Highlight #1 (PiP, ) is less shimmery (90% similar). Concept is a muted, medium-dark rosy coral with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had good pigmentation paired with a soft, blendable texture that was a bit thin and dusty, so it sheered out noticeably when applied to the cheeks. Luckily, it could be built up to greater intensity. This shade wore for nine hours before starting to fade on me. MAC I'll Hold My Breath #2 (LE, ) is cooler (95% similar). KIKO 108 Orange Coral (DC, $12.00) is darker, brighter (90% similar). Estee Lauder Sensuous Rose (P, $34.00) is more muted, warmer (90% similar). Icon is a muted, medium rosy pink with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had the type of finish that seemed matte initially, but it had a more natural matte finish when blended and buffed on the skin–it didn’t look dry or flat. This shade had a soft, lightly dusty texture that was very blendable and easy to use, and it did not sheer out unduly like Concept did, so the dustiness wasn’t noticeable when I used it on the cheeks. I was able to wear this one for nine hours before it started to show signs of wear. Chanel Crescendo (250) (LE, $45.00) is brighter (95% similar). MAC Formal (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). NARS Loves Me (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery, brighter (90% similar). NYX Mauve (DC, $5.00) is lighter (90% similar). ILIA Before Today (P, $32.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Montage is a deep raspberry pink with neutral-to-cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. The pigmentation was good, while the consistency was smooth but too firm in the pan, so it was harder to blend out on the skin. It had more of a natural finish as it was blended on the skin. On me, this shade wore well for nine hours. Sephora Love Sick (22) (P, $14.00) is warmer (95% similar). Pat McGrath Lovestruck (P, $38.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Chanel Rosewood (350) (P, $45.00) is darker (95% similar). Chanel Rose Ruban (602) (P, $45.00) is less shimmery, cooler (95% similar). MAC Red Water Lily (LE, $40.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Ironic is a medium-dark, pinky plum with neutral-to-warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. This blush had excellent color payoff, while the texture was soft, just a smidgen powdery, and blended easily on the skin. I noticed the finish looked less matte and flat as I blended the product on my cheeks. The wear came in closer to nine hours on this particular color. Too Faced Your Love is King (P, $26.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Sephora Love Sick (22) (P, $14.00) is more shimmery, cooler (95% similar). Idol is a light-medium, yellowed gold with warm, orange undertones and a frosted sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly dusty texture–this one was prone to sheering out, but I imagine that for most this will be used as a highlighter and that sheerness will be more appreciated than not. The sheen is subtle on my skin, and the color didn’t seem to translate as noticeably as I had anticipated, but as always, this will likely have more color impact on fairer complexions. It wore well for eight hours on me. Laura Mercier Addiction (P, $45.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Becca Champagne Pop (LE, $42.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (95% similar). Urban Decay Pyrite (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). Giorgio Armani No. 02 (P, $62.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Becca Opal (P, $38.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Culture is a bright pop of peony pink with warmer undertones (though not strongly warm) paired with warmer, golden shimmer. It had good color coverage with a powdery texture, though it was soft, finely-milled, and remained blendable on the skin. There seemed to be pigmentation to spare, as it did not sheer out noticeably in practice. This shade lasted for almost nine hours on me. Becca Hibiscus Bloom (DC, $34.00) is darker (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Lissome (Bottom) (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Milani Bella Bellini (P, $7.99) is more shimmery (95% similar). Surreal is a bright, medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It was nicely pigmented, and I felt like a little went a long way, possibly due to the general brightness of it as well as the richness in pigment. The texture was soft, finely-milled, and a bit on the dusty side, but it did not appear dry or chalky applied to my skin. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading on me. Deco is a medium, pink-coral with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. The pigmentation was mostly opaque, while the powder felt soft, smooth, and neither dusty nor too firm in the pan. Mod is a brightened, medium peachy-coral with warm undertones and a satin finish. The blush was richly pigmented and applied true-to-color on my skin. Blush palettes normally don’t get me this excited but this one is just too pretty.
It is a nice one!
It’s too bad that Tarte makes that 12 hour wear claim or some of these would’ve scored even higher, but glad to see everything scored A/B range except for 1 shade, and there are no real duds. I swatched this in store at the Sephora insider appreciation event, loved it, and was seriously tempted to get it, but I have too many blushes already. It would’ve great if they took out a pink or two and added in a purple or nude color, but you can try mixing pink with another color to get a different one. But you can’t beat the price, and kudos to Tarte for not skimping on the packaging either. And they really delivered on value — $118 worth of blush for only $44 (please take notes Hourglass!), so you are getting 10 small ones for the price of 4 full size ones. And since I will never ever finish a full- size Tarte blush in my lifetime, these smaller sizes are perfect. In terms of value, packaging, and quality for the price, Tarte did a great job on this one. I think this is one of the shining stars of this holiday season, amid a sea of mediocre, boring, pricey, and mixed bag products. Great job Tarte!
Yeah, I hear ya, Katherine! Tarte’s blushes have solid wear time, but I can’t usually get close to the 12 hour mark at all!
I like that they’re small enough that it keeps the palette travel-friendly and you don’t have a lifetime of blush (well, you still might, haha), but they’re a healthy size for use with most brushes and will last you more than a couple of uses. The only thing I wish was that they were removable.
LOL – “please take notes Hourglass” – from your fingers to Hourglass’s ears (yeah, as if!). I’m in the same boat as you, Katherine – I have lots of blush already and adding 10 more, nice as these are, would be folly.
Right?? Lucky this blush kit didn’t come from Hourglass, or they would be charging us $ 180 for $118 worth of blush, and put it into a plastic case instead of elegant gold metal. Now, if only Tarte could throw some of their awesome LE Metallic single shadows into a big wheel, and charge us $44, that could top this. Tarte, I hope you are reading this! Maybe for next year??
Hahahah! Yeah for the those Metallic shadows into a wheel, a palette whatever they want!
Tarte blushes last at least 12 hours on me. That’s one of the reasons I like them. They hold up against my oily skin. Milage varies with each person, though.
Hourglass really does need to take notes.
As soon as I saw the palette in the store, I thought “Oooh, I bet Rachel would be all over this one! Need to go tell her” Glad you’re loving yours!
They last a long time on me too. That’s why own four of them. Two pretty corals a pink and a rosy red. I love the formula .
This did quite well. Love the swatches and dupes, but only from the appreciation pov. (Not being a pink, coral, or midrange person.). But it shrieks GOOD GIFT for a person with a limited blush stash, who does not indulge in good product often.
Yeah, they could have done at least one, if not two, deeper and darker tones – maybe like a deep, coppery plum and a cooler, taupe-gray… plus a cool lavender would not have been amiss.
I suppose if I were new to makeup, something like this might make sense but I honestly don’t need, don’t want and can’t justify TEN more blushes and all of them in a not terribly portable palette (would anyone actually put this in their purse to touch up at work, for example? I guess some might but for me, just one blush in my bag is all I want or need)
With 10 blushes I wish they would have had a greater diversity of shades, so this is a pass for me, but it is a great value!
I hear ya, Pami! They could have definitely gotten more variety in tone/color.
Yay! I bought this quite impulsively after Katherine T’s excellent mini-review here. 🙂 Thanks again for that! And I love it. I didn’t have any Tarte blushes and this is a great way to try out the brand. I never understood all the fuss about coral blushes but now I do: they are just utterly flattering. 😀 It’s true that there could be more variety and that it’s not super dared or anything, but these are just very wearable blushes, I think I will use almost all of them.
That is awesome, Ouineque! Yay for holiday winners!
You’re welcome, Ouineque! Glad you’re loving it 🙂
I always fall in love with these Tarte blush palettes, but for some reason I never get around to using mine too often!
I wonder why you don’t reach for them!
It’s certainly a great value but the shades just look too similar on the cheeks. If I received it as a Holiday gift I would keep it, but I’m not tempted to buy it for myself!
Yep, that is the issue with blush – it is rare for one to wear all shades at opaque levels, so the nuances get more and more minor as you sheer them out.
I’ve been utterly in love with this palette since I bought it. Crafty and Idol are definitely highilghter shades, I think. I think Tarte knocked it out of the park with this one. I don’t find any of the shades thin or dusty, though. All mine are silky, almost creamy, much like last year’s Bling It On palette.
Happy to hear you are loving yours, Rachel! 🙂
This is such a great value in a small compact. Not enough variety for me, though. These would all look bright pink/bright peach on me since I’m fair and go pretty subtle on blush.
Oh, Idk?!?! I love that it is good quality and a bunch of colors, but some of the shades seem to run into one another or are close to some I own? Just not sure I need this many more new shades. Yet, I DO really like this one. Conundrum of the day. *sigh*
All pinks!? Boo! ?
I wanted this, just for the Bella bamba dupe (I have Bella bamba, but very little left!! Bella bamba and Clinique Plum pop are my most used blushes!!!) and the highlighters. Because Im not a HUGE fan of matte blushes, I prefer glowy blushes!! But I was a good girl and talked myself out of buying it 😛 ahaha
I love this, it looks a decent palette and the colours look lovely. I do have dupes for a few of them but Culture is the one that I’m most attracted to as I don’t have a dupe for that. How big is the palette, I know you said it’s travel-size but how big is it in relation to your hand?
I got mine last week, and for the most part I’m very happy with it. But I do wish there was more variation because everything looks pink against my NC40 skin. Even the color Mod was a warm pink. But I do love the packaging.
A great palette at an affordable price for those into pink shades. They look lovely on you Christine.
I got this from Sephora Australia’s two-days only online event without even swatching it. I have more blush than I would like to admit but a) this would be my first tarte blush(es) and I’ve liked how soft the product feels when I swatched them in store and b) This is just great for travelling, saves me from looking for individual blush compacts rolling about somewhere in my train case when I am in a hurry (which I usually am because I’m always late).
I agree it would have been better had it more variety of shades but I’m not complaining, the value is great. I am yet to buy an Hourglass product, I keep thinking I’ll get one of the palettes (I dithered over holiday 2015 for months) but I just can’t bring myself to spend so much money on so little value *sigh* That said, I wish Hourglass would do a blush wardrobe someday … but I think they will ask for a thousand dollars, an arm and a leg, and a kidney to boot for it.
I only have one high end blush, so I took a chance and picked this up before reading any reviews. I’m so glad I did! I’m one of those you were talking about who was needing an instant blush collection, so this palette is just perfect for me. I’m so glad it got a good review. I’ve only had it a few days, but I’m loving it so far!
I still like to see Culture made permanent. But dang seeing it listed as a dupe to the DC’d Bella Bamba makes me sad… miss that shade.
I really like it. I’m not sure happy about matte blushes but these don’t look too chalky. It could also be your glowy foundation helping them to look more alive though. Hard to say!
A lot of these seem to intense for my fair skin/taste, but I wish Culture became a single/permanent – looks special and soft.
Love the eye look!
Does anyone know if this palette will be available in Sephora stores?
You might try calling your local store to ask!
Hi Christine.. I follow ur blogs regularly!!they are awesome! I hav bought this tarte clay wheel palette n it’s wonderful!! Want ur suggestion.. I am looking for a nice blush for everyday wear.. Could u pls suggest me a shade.. My skin tone is like yours! Any everyday shade from either tarte, Mac or Nars ?? Thx a ton!!
What tone are you looking for? Pink, brown, plum?
Thanks for the swatches! Helped me decide if I wanted to get it or not. On another note, I’ve been trying to find a dupe for a blush I know you’ve reviewed but it isn’t in your database :(.
If you have a moment I’d appreciate a permanent/more easily available dupe for Korres’ 15 Natural blush (since it can’t be bought through the web store any longer).
Thanks again for all the work you do.
Sorry, we only added images/swatches that were decent (at the time of creating the database), and that swatch is total garbage now! Have you tried going to the Swatch Gallery -> Blush -> Brown?
These are a lot brighter than they appear in the pan or other online photos. I really appreciate your modelling them on the face, it really helps the purchase decision!
No problem, Linda!
If you have to choose this one or too faced love flush blush, which one will you pick? From the color or formula or the long lasting, maybe. I really want blush palette but im still confuse, thanks for helping
Xoxo
I prefer Too Faced’s formula myself! This one is more compact, though.
Just wanted to say, you are, by far the best makeup blog out there. Love your stuff. Your good at what you do and so thorough with the reviews, it’s like I’m holding the makeup myself. I’m impressed!!
Thank you so much, Amber!
