Shiseido High Rise, Future Shock, Vortex VisionAiry Gel Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches

High Rise (225)

Shiseido High Rise (225) VisionAiry Gel Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a brighter, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a cream finish. The color payoff was good, just shy of truly opaque coverage in a single stroke, that applied the lipstick evenly and smoothly. The texture was moderately creamy with a “wet” feel initially, but it developed slight tackiness within an hour of wear that ensured the color adhered well without sliding around (but without feeling clingy). I was impressed by how smooth the product looked on my lips. It stayed on well for five hours and was hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$26.00/0.05 oz. - $520.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "high levels of pigment" for "cushiony, comfortable, weightless color" that lasts for "six hours." They had rich color coverage in a single stroke, just as promised, and they were creamy and emollient, which made them comfortable and easy to apply on my lips.

The formula has a slight set to it where it is less emollient and clings slightly (but not uncomfortably), so it loses some of the initial slip, which ultimately helps keep the product in place better and for longer. Over time (about an hour or so), the shine wore down a bit and the consistency felt a little tackier, but most of the shades lasted for six to eight hours and some of the mid-tone and deeper shades made it through a meal adequately.

The formula remained comfortable to wear, kept my lips hydrated while worn but they often felt quite good even a few hours later after a shade wore down. There was no discernible scent or taste.

The biggest downside to the product is that each tube contains a mere 0.05 oz., which is absolutely tiny relative to most traditional lipsticks (contrast this with the also-just released ModernMatte lipstick, which is the same price but contains 0.14 oz.).

Future Shock (215)

Shiseido Future Shock (215) VisionAiry Gel Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a muted, medium purple with strong, warm undertones and a cream finish. The color coverage was good, though not quite opaque in a single layer, but the color applied evenly and didn’t gravitate toward my lip lines. The lipstick was smooth, lightweight, and creamy with enough slip to glide across my lips well but didn’t feather or slide around while worn. This was likely due to the formula developing some tackiness within an hour of application that kept the color on longer and better, though it was still comfortable to wear. It wore well for six and a half hours and was moisturizing to wear.

Vortex (216)

Shiseido Vortex (216) VisionAiry Gel Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a deep, plummy burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a glossy sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly, but it could have been both more pigmented and less slippery. I was surprised that the color didn’t sink into every lip line, though, so that was impressive. The consistency became tackier within 45 minutes of application, which kept it from feathering or bleeding, but this shade was too slippery and more challenging to apply directly from the tube as a result. The color stayed on nicely for five and a half hours on me and was hydrating over time.

Very nice showing, especially compared to Dior. Their last collection was good, too. The purple somehow, on my display, manages to look bluer/less pink, without losing the warmth. And that’s a feat. Although Shisedo is a major player and parent company to Serge Lutens, Nars, etc., I think it does not get the visibility it deserves here in the US. Maybe their Asian and worldwide presence overrides that concern.

This seems to be a pretty formula! I love the finish on your lips. I am disappointed by the price and the quantity they provide. Except if a color steals my heart I will pass on those for the principal of not encouraging that kind of practice.

I know many don’t finish their lipsticks and don’t care but I finish them nowadays (especially my shiseido’s rn Pat McGrath) and I don’t want to encourage brands who take this direction. I like a pretty packaging but I am still here for the makeup first. Not the other way around. Sorry for the rant!

Future Shock made in onto my WL right away! I’m impressed by the depth without it being patchy or lip-line. Plus, it’s gorgeous autumnal shade of purple, which more than helps!

I hope to see reviews for code red, rose muse, streaming mauve, and night rose soon. I’m in the city this week and can go shopping! Normally I live 200 miles away so this will be a treat!
