MAC Bangin' Brilliant Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 2)
MAC Eyeshadow
MAC Shock Factor Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “lime green [with a Matte finish].” It’s a bright, light-medium chartreuse green with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation with a dusty, chalky consistency that was hard to work with. It looked uneven and dry on the skin–with or without primer!–and I could not seem to get it to look decent at all. I even patted it over eyeliner, and it made it look terrible. What I was able to apply lasted six hours! Anastasia D2 (Norvina Vol. 4) (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop Frazzled (LE, $4.50) is more shimmery, cooler (95% similar). MAC New Crop Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “vivid hunter green with pearl [with a Frost finish].” It’s a medium, emerald green with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had rich color payoff, but the texture was very dense, firm, and grainy, which made it hard to work with on the skin as I had to really dig at the eyeshadow and then press it into the skin. It applied like a very thick, almost dried-out cream and less like a powder. It wore for nine hours without creasing, though. KVD Beauty Iggy (DC, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). Make Up For Ever ME304 Emerald (DC, $21.00) is less shimmery, more muted (95% similar). ColourPop Juicy (LE, $4.50) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Teal Appeal Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “intense teal blue/green [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a medium-dark, blue-teal with subtle, cool undertones and a frosted finish. It had nice pigmentation with a soft, smooth consistency that was firmer in the pan than the average eyeshadow, but it didn’t translate into problematic application, as the eyeshadow blended out just fine on the skin. The color wore well for eight hours on me before fading. theBalm Open to Offers Olwen (LE, $16.00) is more muted (90% similar). Make Up For Ever #83 (DC, $20.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC How Royal Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “pearly cerulean blue [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a bright, medium blue with subtle, cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation paired with a softer consistency that wasn’t too firm or too dense, but I did notice it had a tendency to fade when applied to bare skin. Over primer, it looked better and applied more evenly. On me, it wore well for eight hours (no primer). KVD Beauty Paranoid (DC, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Make Up For Ever S214 Ultramarine Blue (DC, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Glacier Gang (LE, )(90% similar). NARS Showgirl (P, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC In the Shadows Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “vibrant dark blue [with a Frost finish].” It’s a medium-dark blue with strong, cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The coverage was mostly opaque, though it had a very dense, firm texture, so it was best applied with a firmer, flatter brush and pressed onto the skin to maximize coverage. The color wore well for eight and a half hours before fading. ColourPop Luckfully (P, $6.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Dior Rivage #5 (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Zinc Blue Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep ocean blue [with a Matte finish].” It’s a deep, cobalt blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage with a soft, smooth consistency that was a little thin but not too dusty to work with. It applied decently to bare skin, but at least it performed better over primer (not all shades from this launch have done so). On me, the color lasted for eight hours before creasing. Yay!!! Zinc Blue is on my must buy list! A matte royal blue that performs well? Never thought MAC would be the one to do it, but well done MAC!! And permanent too, so blue shadow lovers rejoice 🙂 And In The Shadows makes me drool, definitely my kind of blue, but I have enough dupes. Also like Teal Appeal. Kind of shocked over Shock Factor, the swatch did look kind of dry, but wow. BTW, love the mermaid eye look you did !
Thank you, Katherine! I wish Shock Factor was better… I mean, it was just unworkable. I was originally going to wear it on the center of the lid, but it was just so horrific that I swapped it for Lucky Green just for a more cohesive/decent look and tested Shock Factor later.
Love the blues/teals! Luckily, I have many of the dupes so there is no urgency in purchasing these.
Phew! 🙂
Gorgeous eye look! Shock Factor looked bad from the swatch, so no surprise it got an F. The blues did surprisingly well, and I think they’re beautiful. I loved the green, so I’m sad to hear the texture is so awful.
It is very odd about the grainy/gritty quality to New Crop!
Teal Appeal is certainly appealing! I think I like the MUFE a little more.
It is pretty!
Pretty decent, and you look great. They did a good job with the blues, though the Royal is not very true to pan on my tablet. The chartreuse is excusable, as it is so hard to nail. Always like seeing MUFE dupes, bec that formula is friendly to me, even in the shimmery shades, very refined, even if bright.
What’s funny is MAC’s True Chartreuse pigment still remains one of the best matte chartreuse eye products!
Their LE Savant eyeshadow is still my favorite chartreuse shadow ever. They ought to have made Savant permanent instead!
Yes!
Because you listed KVD Iggy and MUFE Emerald Green as dupes, I have a gut feeling that New Crop will also very nearly dupe Jealousy Wakes in color, if not full quality. Making me feel that I can avoid going to Evil-Bay! What thinks You?
Teal Appea,l and surprisingly, Zinc Blue made it onto my wishlist, too!
It’s not a dupe, sorry! New Crop is cooler in tone, and the texture is different for sure. It actually reminded me of the texture of Jealousy Wakes in the first sample, which I was appalled by and MAC offered to keep working on it to see if they could make it better, and if they didn’t, I could pull it.
I am such a sucker for teal colors… this one looks really pretty!!
I love the eye look you did! I could use some blues in my collection.
Just love the blues – they are so pretty and perfect for summer. Most of them scored fairly well too. A gorgeous eye look Christine.
Wow! Those colors look amazing on you, Christine! While I was scrolling through the swatches (before checking out the dupes) I immediately thought of the KVD Metal Crush shadows as well as the Mi Vida Loca palette. Seems both brands struggled with lime green but were able to pull off beautiful, emerald shades.
Too bad about Shock Factor. The others look really nice!
The shoddiness of Shock Factor really is a shock! I have a chartreuse MAC pigment and it’s gorgeous, so I expected better from a similar shade pressed shadow.
I want the two dark blues. They would fill an actual gap in my collection, too, lol.
Love the eye look. Sephora’s eyeliner shade names make me smile.
Yeah, it is a sad shadow! I don’t know why it’s THAT bad.
How Royal is my fave of this bunch!
Yay!
I’m relatively happy with the grades for these and these are a colour family I love. Shame on Shock Factor though, sooo dry.
It’s worse than Bitter 🙁
New crop looks so pretty in the swatches.
It is a nice color!
how does new crop compare to your personal shade, jealousy wakes?
New Crop is a cooler-toned green! I wouldn’t say they’re dupes.
Oh my love the eye look! 🙂
Thank you!
I am beside myself with how bad that matte lime green…just why bother with putting it out. I was hoping it would get at least a B grade to use with my urban decay electric palette..sigh. Some of the blues are really pretty, I might consider picking up zinc
It’s sooo bad!
