MAC Bangin' Brilliant Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)
MAC Eyeshadow
MAC Up at Dawn Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “sherbet orange [with a Satin finish].” It’s a lightly brightened, meidum orange with warm undertones and a satin shimmer. It had good color payoff, but the texture was dusty and on the thinner side, so it had trouble adhering well to the skin. It only seemed to work decently over a thicker base like a MAC Paint Pot, but it did not work well with thinner primers like Urban Decay Primer Potion or MAC’s 24-Hour Prep + Prime. I could get a tinge of the color if I swept it above the crease, but it was never opaque. The color lasted for seven hours on me. Sephora Sandstone (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). MAC Get Closer (LE, $17.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Inglot #123R Top (PiP, $6.00) is darker (95% similar). Viseart Cantaloupe (Warm Mattes #6) (P, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Apricot Blend #3 (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Dior Pareo (P, $29.00) is darker (90% similar). Milani Bella Mandarin (27) (P, $4.49) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Suspiciously Sweet Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “coral orange [with a Frost finish].” It’s a medium, coral-orange with warm undertones and a frosted, golden shimmer. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a drier, dustier consistency that was difficult to apply. I really tried with this one; I tried it over primer as well as over bare skin (which is what the rating is based on), but I also tried it with a damp brush, because it was working terribly even over primer! Oddly enough, with a damp brush, it applied decently on bare skin but “cracked” and separated over the primer (MAC’s 24-Hour Prep + Prime). It wore for six and a half hours (dry, no primer) on me. Viseart Coy #3 (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). ColourPop Served (LE, $4.50) is less shimmery (95% similar). ColourPop Celebrity Row (LE, $4.50) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). MAC Fashion’s Field Day Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “pinky-coral [with a Frost finish].” It’s a medium pink with warm, golden shimmer that gives it more of a pearly finish. It is less shimmery and thinner, dustier in consistency than most Frost finish eyeshadows I’ve tried from MAC, which made it hard to work with on bare skin. It didn’t work spectacular over MAC’s own 24-Hour Prep + Prime base either, though it was less dismal. It just sheered out noticeably and tended to look a little dry and uneven. It lasted for seven and a half hours before creasing on me. MAC Pretty Dainty (LE, $23.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Ciate Jelly Bean (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). MAC Ruddy Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “intense red [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a medium-dark red with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It was richly pigmented with a very dense consistency that was firmer to the touch, but it wasn’t stiff to the point where it was hard to get pigmentation out of it or blend it out on the skin. The color lasted for nine hours on me, and I didn’t notice any staining after I removed it. Tarte Revel (P, $14.00) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Siren #2 (LE, ) is more muted, warmer (95% similar). ColourPop Easy Go (LE, $4.50) is more muted, warmer (95% similar). MAC Oh My Mocha! Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “antiqued cranberry [with a Frost finish].” It’s a subdued, dark plum with warm undertones and a soft sheen. It had good color payoff with a soft, blendable texture that had a harder press but wasn’t difficult to work with on the skin. The color started to fade after eight and a half hours of wear on me. Le Metier de Beaute Crucible (LE, $30.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Guerlain Cygne Noir #2 (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). MAC I’m Into It Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “dark red brown [with a Matte finish].” It’s a deep, reddish burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was soft, smooth, and blendable without being too thin or too firm in the pan. It had good pigmentation, which applied well to bare skin. It wore well for just over eight hours on me. Wow, beautiful eye look!
Thanks, Pearl!
Oh no! I was eyeing Suspiciously Sweet and Fashion Field Day, love the gold shimmer and hoping they can double as shadows/blushes, but if they aren’t doing well over even primer, doesn’t sound good 🙁 But I’m going to get I’m Into It! I have the dupe Colour Pop Central Perk, but my version is a dark purple brown with red undertones, it looks NOTHING like the swatch I see here, but I noticed that Colour Pop’s colors can sometimes vary by batch, so it will be nice to finally get the red brown I’m looking for
They were really annoying to use 🙁
It’s sad, considering how bad it is…but I think I have to have Suspiciously Sweet.
Aw!
Awe the first 3 in text is sad…. But I do have UP AT DAWN dupe of #123R, and Suspiciously Sweet dupe of Urban Decay Freelove.
I wonder if I have something similar to Fashion’s Field Day because the shade is still calling to me.
Yay! I’m glad you have something similar 🙂
Too bad, the colors that were interesting don’t get a very good rating from you.
I wish they were better!
Oh My Mocha is my favorite out of this group!
That one is nice!
Too bad the brights performed so poorly! They’re the least dupable for me.
I was surprised – normally shimmery shades are decent!
Christine, is MAC I’m Into It Eyeshadow similar to Everyone’s darling that came out last fall? They look quite similar?
http://www.temptalia.com/side-by-side/?sbs_1_search=MAC+I%27m+Into+It&sbs_1=242111&sbs_2_search=MAC+Everyone%27s+Darling&sbs_2=206820
OMG!!! What a gorgeous eye look! Inspiration indeed!
Thanks, Kellee!
Those peachy shades are disappointing, especially considering so many other brands get them right. I really like Ruddy. Fingers crossed the brights get good grades.
I was really surprised by how hard they were to apply!
I was really excited for Suspiciously Sweet but I’m really disappointed in its performance.
Me too, Pamela! I was surprised 🙁
A beautiful eye look, Christine and the three darker shadows are screaming my name!
Aw, thanks Mary!
Boo 🙁 two out of the four I wanted have bad grades. Oh well, I’m definitely going to get Im into it, and I’ll think about oh my mocha, so long as it’s not too similar to antiqued. Thanks!
No problem, Savannah! 🙂
Variable results – which is what usually happens with MAC these days, but a glorious eye look Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
This is so disappointing! I was LOVING Fashion’s Field Day and Suspiciously Sweet. Dammit. (It turns out I have a dupe for Suspiciously Sweet anyway, though.)
Again: gonna need Ruddy and I’m Into It!!! They’re soooooooo gorgeous.
Ruddy is absolutely gorgeous! Want.
It is lovely!
I’m Into It and Up at Dawn are lovely.
Glad ya liked a couple!
It’s weird how good they look in the swatches, versus how difficult they were on the eye. I was totally convinced I was going to get Suspiciously Sweet, but … no. Which is fine. I am seriously considering Oh My Mocha! though.
I wasn’t pleased when I tried some of them, because they were not as easy to use as I had anticipated!
Girl you need to organize your site. I have been around since you first started it and its still frustrating. This is the perfect example…..This is part 1 of 2 and yet part 2 isn’t linked ANYWHERE on the page…I literally have to go all the way back to Google and search for part two. Same thing when you do preview pages. Once you release the reviews you never link it on the preview page for that collection……its not hard to just link the pages together……
Hey Megan,
Everything is organized within: Brand, Product Type, Formula. If you want to look for a MAC Lipstick, you can find it all in one place – right under MAC Lipstick. I don’t organize by collection as it created a lot of tags on the site (we did that before, and it was overwhelming, because there was no way to arrange 10,000 tags in an order – and that was only a few years’ worth of posts). Although, you can search within the site (you don’t have to use Google but that is up to you!) “bangin’ brilliant,” and all relevant posts turn up 🙂 In general, most users search for product by specific name, not by a collection, which is why it made more sense to organize by formula when we created the product database that enables better linkage across features of the site.
I’m also not sure what you mean by preview page – right on the sneak peek for this collection, you can click any shade, which will take you to the product’s page! 🙂
Page: http://www.temptalia.com/sneak-peek-mac-bangin-brilliant-eyeshadows-blushes-photos-swatches/
Each product is linked. If you click the shade name, it takes you that shade’s permanent page, which provides full photos, swatches, a link for dupes, rating, user reviews, and a link to a full review, as applicable. Are you clicking them? They work on my end, so please let me know if they are not clickable on your end so we can troubleshoot any issues!
