Givenchy Holiday 2019 Le Rouge Mini Lipstick Set ($50.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a new, limited edition set that features four, miniature-sized Le Rouge lipsticks. Two of the four shades are from the more recently released (which missed even my radar!) shades, plus two that have been around for awhile. Each shade contains 0.05 oz., whereas a full-sized shade contains 0.12 oz. and retails for $38–the set contains $63.33 worth of product.

Grenat Initie (307)

Grenat Initie (307) is a brighter, medium-dark red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had good pigmentation in a single layer, which applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without dragging. The texture was lightweight, creamy without being too emollient, and comfortable to wear, plus it smoothed out my lip lines, which is always appreciated! This shade lasted well for five and a half hours, left a faint stain behind, and was hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$36.00/0.12 oz. - $300.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "intense color" with a "semimatte finish." Most shades are opaque with a few falling short of full coverage that apply evenly and last between four and six hours. The fomrula is lightly creamy to moderately creamy with some slip that is comfortable to wear and typically moisturizing over time. It has a floral scent but no discernible taste.

Mandarine Bolero (304)

Mandarine Bolero (304) is a bright, medium-dark orange-coral with warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. The lipstick had nearly full color coverage in one stroke, though it had a more emollient quality to it that caused some of the product to slide around, so I wasn’t able to get a perfectly even application and had areas that were sheerer. The texture was lightweight, creamy, and smooth, and it didn’t emphasize my lip lines but wasn’t as smoothing as other shades. It stayed on nicely for five hours and was moisturizing while worn.

L'Interdit (333)

L’Interdit (333) is a medium-dark red with warmer undertones and a natural sheen. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single pass with an even lay down of color achieved in one, fluid stroke. The lipstick had a creamy, lightly emollient texture that was comfortable to wear and to apply as it never tugged and smoothed out most of my lip lines. It wore beautifully for five and a half hours and was hydrating while worn.

Rose Diaphane (110)

Rose Diaphane (110) is a muted, medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had rich pigmentation that adhered evenly to my lips, but the texture seemed slightly denser, creamier, and had less of a velvety quality to it compared to the other three shades in the set. The finish wasn’t as smoothing as two of the shades in the set, though I don’t feel it emphasized my lip texture or lip lines. It lasted well for four and a half hours and was moisturizing over time.

I really like the Givenchy lip formula. I apologize if I missed it but do these have a scent and/or taste? Sometimes the scent in the lipsticks really bugs me and other times it doesn’t. Not sure if it is the amount of the scent or what. Could just be my propensity for migraines and the scent along with any other trigger just sets me off.

Dawn Avatar

I would like to add, please smell them in store. I got a mini of Mandarine Bolero, and while I love the colour and texture, the scent… Good Lord. It is like I drinking nasty perfume. I just cannot have it on my lips. Now if I take a whiff of it, it sends me back to tasting it. I can only really handle scented lipsticks like Bite or MAC, it seems.

Deborah S. Avatar

Oh no!! I don’t feel like I am particularly sensitive to scent in products but if they are strong enough then I will not purchase them. I just mentioned to Seraphine that there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason for why some scents bug me and others do not. It would just be so much better if they didn’t add any scent at all. I will try and smell them when I head to Kalispell later this week, assuming they have them in our little JC Penny’s Sephora.

Seraphine Avatar

If these smell like the regular size Le Rouge lipsticks, it is a strong floral scent that smells “old lady” to me. I hate using that term, being that I am starting to fall into that category (lol), but Le Rouge reminds me of the icky lipstick smell of my grandmother’s lipstick. On the other hand, just for comparison, I love the rosy scent of Chanel’s Rouge Coco lipsticks, so I’m not opposed to all florals.

It is funny how some scents bother me and some don’t. Even within the same formula they just seem stronger in some than others. I suffer from a form of migraines called Vestibular Migraines and there isn’t a rhyme or reason for when I will have an episode. They do cluster in the spring and fall so my Dr. thinks that there is likely a pollen trigger but I do have them other times of the year. I love this formula because it is very forgiving on lip lines and at 65 that is important to me. I would definitely prefer a vanilla scent if there is any scent at all. Hope you had a good weekend, Seraphine.

Really nice to see the extra value on these but neither Mandarin Bolero nor Rose Diaphane would work for me. I do love Givenchy’s lipsticks, even though they are quite “spendy”. I think I need to “treat” myself to a single of Grenat Initie or maybe L’Interdit (though it might be a bit too orange leaning for a red for me).
