Ciate x Chloe Morello Pretty, Fun, Fearless Volume II Makeup Set Review, Photos, Swatches

Pretty, Fun, Fearless Volume II
Ciate Pretty, Fun, Fearless Volume II Beauty Haul Makeup Set ($49.00 for 1.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette for the holidays. It includes 20 eyeshadows along with a full-sized liquid liner (not reviewed here), miniature-sized liquid lipstick, and mascara (not reviewed here). The eyeshadows are supposed to be “packed full of gorgeous pigment” and have “ultimate blendability and massive color payoff.”
I had higher hopes for this palette, but there was a dryness present in several shades that made it a struggle to use, even when I tried a few of those disappointing shades over an eyeshadow primer (I even used a creamier one by Marc Jacobs Beauty). Some shades were lovely, but a lot of them were under-pigmented, needed to be built up, had fallout due to poor adhesion and binding, and were just generally far harder to work with than many other eyeshadow palettes at this price point.

Topless
Topless is a very light beige with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was soft and silky, but it did kickup excess product in the pan. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that wore well for seven hours on me.

Marron
Marron is a dark brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was semi-opaque and buildable with a soft, velvety texture that was blendable and easy to work with. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Ingredients
Talc, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Dimethicone, Silica, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Nylon-12, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Zinc Stearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin [May Contain +/- : Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Ultramarines (Ci 77007), Bismuth Oxychloride (Ci 77163), Carmine (Ci 75470), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140)].

Soul
Soul appeared to be a sooty, emerald green but was so sheer that it was hard to tell what it was–maybe a blackened green with some pearl. It had sheer coverage with a stiff, dry texture that was difficult to pickup product from and even more challenging to apply and blend out as there was little there. I’m not even sure it lasted for longer than five hours on me.

Chartreuse
Chartreuse is a soft, lemony green with warm, golden undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, lightly dry texture that applied decently to bare skin and lasted for seven hours.

Sydney
Sydney is a medium, pinky mauve with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff that applied evenly across the lips. The consistency was airy, mousse-like, and easy to spread on my lips. There was a slight amount of product that got into my deeper lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It lasted for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Thank you for this review. I really like the color scheme in this palette and the liquid lip color…
But there were only few reviews on the Sephora website and on YT some were great the others were poor, so I decided to wait for your trustful opinion! It is now officially off my wish list now!!
The reviews on Sephora were so positive I thought I was crazy, lol!
Oof, I really liked the color selection, but that definitely isn’t a great performance. I hadn’t planned on getting it since I’m pretty sure I already have all of these colors (since I do like ’em, haha), but Soul…oh my.
Also, I think the photos for Rose Gold are showing up under Gold as well?
So sorry, that’s fixed!
Mine is definitely better than yours but also not as good as the first release so I was still disappointed. I haven’t used it yet (despite having it for a while). I might get into it this coming weekend. I don’t want to give up on it without trying to use it first (although I might just forgo trying the Coloured Raine one). I’m sorry yours was subpar too. At least you’ve saved people money on the upcoming Sephora sale though!
The first time I tested shades from it, I was like, “hmm” and I went on and tested other palettes (this is a big one!) so I could go back later (in case it was me… or my eyelid skin or whatever), but it didn’t get better than what my initial impressions were!
How I wanted this to be good, and ‘note to self,’ if the binxcat got a good one, I would consider. Guess not! There are some mufe trio take aways, as always, and maybe Zoeva cafe, but this was def delisted…. and just in time! Highly disappointing. #1 did not get a resounding endorsement, but it’s easy, cohesive, and superb, compared to this.
If both Christine and I got bad palettes, I’d say the chances of getting a good batch are greatly reduced. Save your money! I’m going to try to make mine work since I already have it but there are much better buys out there for the upcoming sales.
Rats! I also had high hopes for this one.
What a pity about the eye palette. It has such pretty colors. I’m glad I skipped it, seeing how bad the shadows are.
It’s interesting looking at the dupes for Soul and wondering how on earth you could decide on dupes for this shade once it is applied or swatched because it’s difficult to figure out what colour it is…it’s that faded out and bland and unimpressive. I’m sure that in the pan, it looks a lot like Humid but once they’re swatched – well, it doesn’t even look like Soul is in the same colour family as Humid or many of the others. Time was, I’d have looked at all the amazing colours and the vast # of shadows and really wanted it but not so these days. I’m so tired of mediocre products being foisted on us like they’re something special.
In the instance where it’s hard to tell due to poor pigmentation, I usually try to go somewhere between the swatch and the pan based on experience with how stuff should swatch (it definitely has a dark base).
What a beautiful disaster. This palette’s shade selection had sooo much potential to be a winner! Instead, it’s just very disappointing and lame. Gotta say, that description of “Soul” had me at least crack a chuckle! 😅
If nothing else, I really love the lipstick, Sydney! 😉
I gave this a B- before even looking at Christine’s rating, and it’s worse than that. Could have been a nice option, but another pass.
I have the first edition and while there were a couple of duds it performs pretty well, especially with a good primer. I could tell by the swatches that this wasn’t going to be anywhere near the same pigmentation or blend ability. Thank you for saving us money, Christine.
Very, very average and that green is disgraceful. It is not worth the money and the brand should know better than this.
Thank you for the review Christine, once again you have saved us all some money.
Thanks for your review. With this review and the difficulties I had with their blush, now I know I won’t be putting this on my list.
Wow I had such high hopes for this one. Oh well it has now come off of my Sephora list.
Pass on this one.
I usually love Ciate products, what a disappointment.
I read your blog daily and have the utmost respect for your reviews, and 99% of the time I completely agree with you. That said, my experience with this palette has been completely different, in a positive way! Your swatches look dismal compared to the swatches from my palette and I have used this palette nearly every day for the last three weeks and have had terrific success with it. I did a green eye with Soul and the color was dark, pigmented, and lasted all day and beyond. Based on many other reviews on Sephora’s website, I am wondering if there were indeed “good batches” and “poor batches”, which is an utter shame because the color scheme is beautiful and I really have been very pleased with this product. And on another note, thanks for all your hard work in churning out reviews on all of these holiday palettes, I know it is not an easy task and your readers are extremely grateful!
I picked this set up during the VIB sale and only thought to come by to check on Christine’s review. Even though it seems to be a great value with a full size liquid liner and all that, the C rating definitely is making me to consider to return without even swatching it. At least they can resell it if I don’t swatch it?
I know I always tell you how much I appreciate you, but right now I need to say it again. Thank you for being my makeup guardian angel. You truly are the best!
Thank you, Bonnie!
