Edward Bess Forbidden Flower Ultra Slick Lipstick

Edward Bess Forbidden Flower Ultra Slick Lipstick
Edward Bess Forbidden Flower Ultra Slick Lipstick

Edward Bess Forbidden Flower Ultra Slick Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “beige coral.” It’s a warm-toned, light peach with a hint of pink and a creamy, shiny finish. Chanel Sentiment is more frosted. MAC Sweet & Sour is lighter. MAC Style Surge is darker, warmer. MAC Razzledazzler is pinker. Burberry Pink Apricot is more matte, slightly darker. Burberry Devon Sunset is slightly darker, pinker. See comparison swatches.

Forbidden Flower had full color coverage with little effort or product needed. The consistency is slick, creamy, and not too thick or too thin. With a lighter shade like this, though, the creaminess does lead to “lines” showing up, which make the color look somewhat uneven, when you press your lips together. Luckily, it’s not too noticeable from afar. It lasted four hours well, and it was nicely hydrating during that time. The formula has a sweet fig scent to it, but I didn’t notice it once applied.

Wet ‘n’ Wild Bikini Contest Color Icon Bronzer

Wet 'n' Wild Bikini Contest Color Icon Bronzer
Wet ‘n’ Wild Bikini Contest Color Icon Bronzer

Wet ‘n’ Wild Bikini Contest Color Icon Bronzer ($3.99 for 0.46 oz.) is a medium-dark, orange-toned tan with a soft, champagne shimmer-sheen finish. MAC Hibiscus Kiss Bronzer is more orange. Burberry Copper Glow is slightly warmer. MAC Lush Light Bronze is slightly browner. MAC Refined Golden is darker. Burberry Copper Glow is more golden. See comparison swatches.

It had a soft, finely-milled texture that applied evenly and smoothly. The more the product is worked into the skin and buffed out, the more refined the shimmer becomes and more natural the glow looks. It adds a lot of warmth, some orange tones, but it isn’t too frosted on the skin, so it doesn’t emphasize pores or the skin’s natural texture. Bikini Contest was easy to apply and blend out, and on my warmer complexion, didn’t look sunburnt or too orange. I think it may be too orange-based for cooler skin tones, though. When I wore it, the bronzer lasted seven and a half hours well on my cheeks, and after eight hours, it started to fade.

CoverGirl Molten Black (300), Fired-Up Pink (305), Red-Hot (345) Flamed Out Shadow Pots

CoverGirl Molten Black (300) Flamed Out Shadow Pot
CoverGirl Molten Black (300) Flamed Out Shadow Pot

CoverGirl Molten Black (300) Flamed Out Shadow Pot ($3.99 for 0.07 oz.) is a medium-dark black with silver sparkle. It had good color payoff both wet and dry, though it is more sparkly when applied with a damp brush. The texture was somewhat soft, not as gritty or as powdery as some of the other shades in the range. Urban Decay Oil Slick is less sparkly. Lancome The New Black is darker. Chanel Mirifique is darker, cream product. Sugarpill Stella is darker. See comparison swatches.

CoverGirl Fired-up Pink (305) Flamed Out Shadow Pot ($3.99 for 0.07 oz.) is a brightened, medium pink with a sparkly finish. This one was very crumbly and flaky when applied dry. It smoothed out more when applied damp, but it was still somewhat chunky. Urban Decay Noise is similar but not as sparkly. MAC Tease with Ease is darker, less shimmery. MAC Infra-violet is cooler-toned, less sparkly. Sugarpill Decora is warmer, redder. Make Up For Ever #85 is less shimmery, lighter. Inglot #362 is matte, brighter. See comparison swatches.

CoverGirl Red-Hot (345) Flamed Out Shadow Pot ($3.99 for 0.07 oz.) is a muted, pinky-red with gold sparkle. The color payoff was good both wet and dry, but the texture is smoother and less powdery and flaky when applied with a damp brush. Urban Decay Noise is a cream pencil but similar in color. MAC More Amour is warmer, less pink. MAC Tease with Ease is cooler-toned. MAC Gameela is brighter, matte. Dior Bow is less sparkly. Sugarpill Decora is brighter. See comparison swatches.

CoverGirl’s newest eyeshadows have an odd texture that’s almost grainy; it’s not gritty or rough in the traditional sense, but there’s something flaky, dry, and grainy about the texture. It doesn’t bind together as well as you’d expect a good powder eyeshadow would. There’s a lot of fall out during application, but all three shades had fall out throughout the day, too–just bits of sparkle everywhere on my face! They lasted well for about seven hours, and after eight, there was some noticeable fading. I had slight creasing only with Fired-up Pink.

Physicians Formula Light Bronzer Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Baked Bronzer

Physicians Formula Light Bronzer Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Baked Bronzer ($13.95 for 0.38 oz.) is a warm-toned, orange-tan with a copper-gold shimmer-sheen, when swirled together. The individual components consist of an orange-tan with a low shimmer and lighter, gold-shimmered orange. Burberry Summer Glow is darker, browner. MAC Hibiscus Kiss Bronzer is more matte. Dior Coral Glow Bronzer is less shimmery. See comparison swatches.

The texture of this is soft and blendable, but there is a fair amount of gold sparkle that looks almost like micro-glitter. On the skin, the sparkle showed up as grainy bits and the overall finish has a high sheen so it did emphasize pores and any texture imperfections on the skin (like dry patches). For warmer complexions that are medium and fairer, it will show up as a warming element–on my medium skin tone, it adds warmth and some color, but it’s subtle. This is expected, given there is a Light Bronzer and a Bronzer, with the latter being darker. If you focus your brush on the outer area, then you can minimize how much sparkle you get, as most of it is present in the center shade (the heart). The sparkle tends to migrate during the day, so you may find bits on your chin, which is definitely a downside. I don’t have great luck with a lot of baked formulas lasting well on my skin, and Light Bronzer lasted six hours well but was half gone by eight hours. ┬áThe powder has a sweet violet scent, which is noticeable both during application and occasionally while worn.

MAC Lady Danger Lipstick

MAC Lady Danger Lipstick
MAC Lady Danger Lipstick

MAC Lady Danger Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “vivid bright coral-red [with a matte finish].” It’s a bold, brightened orange-red with warm undertones and a matte finish. It leans more red than orange, but it’s not full-on red. Maybelline Orange Edge is glossier. Maybelline Vibrant Mandarin is less red. Maybelline Neon Red is slightly more orange. MAC Scarlet Ibis is similar. MAC Sail La Vie is glossier. Buxom Rogue is more orange. OCC Psycho is more orange. See comparison swatches.

This is a shade that’s been part of the permanent range for as long as I’ve been a MAC customer (at least, I think so!), and it’s a shade that I’ve been asked about a lot when readers have looked for dupes. I bought it awhile ago, but I only just (finally!) photographed, swatched, and tested it. It’s long-wearing, which isn’t surprising, and lasts six hours and leaves a stain behind. It’s neither drying nor hydrating, but it can be somewhat unforgiving if you have drier lips (it will catch on any dry flakes). The consistency is lightly creamy so it doesn’t tug at the lips too much. It has a vanilla scent but no discernible flavor. The color coverage is rich and intense, so there was no issue with getting full color coverage out of it!

Dior Etincelante (432) Addict Gloss

Dior Etincelante (432) Addict Gloss
Dior Etincelante (432) Addict Gloss

Dior Etincelante (432) Addict Gloss ($29.50 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is a softened, copper and bronze-shimmered peach. Revlon Rosegold is very similar. Revlon Peach is warmer. MAC Social Light is more frosted. MAC Pure Flattery is lighter. MAC Satin Slip is similar. See comparison swatches.

It’s semi-sheer with a lot of shimmer and sparkle, so it seems like it has more coverage than it does. It’s a bit lighter than my natural lip color, but much warmer, so it gives my lips a warm, peachy color overall with finer copper and bronze shimmer. The texture is not too thick or too thin, non-sticky, and comfortable to wear. It lasts four hours and is moderately hydrating during that time. Despite the amount of shimmer in the gloss, it doesn’t feel gritty as the gloss wears away.
