Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Ex-Girlfriend Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “sheer nude-rose with pink shimmer.” It’s a light-medium, rosy peach with warm undertones and fine gold pearl. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a luminous sheen. It was comfortable to wear and lasted for three hours on me. The formula felt a little thinner and had more slip compared to the Sheer Revolution formula to me (but not so much that it feels like a different formula necessarily). Urban Decay Ex-Girlfriend (DC, $18.00) is more shimmery, glossier (95% similar). MAC Soft Talkin' (LE, $20.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Touche (LE, $20.00) is lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Carriacou (LE, $55.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Jubilee (P, $19.00) is cooler (90% similar). Chanel Jersey Rose (DC, $34.00) is cooler (85% similar). Chanel Mademoiselle (434) (P, $37.00) is more shimmery, darker, more pigmented (90% similar). MAC I'm In (LE, $20.00) is cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Forbidden Pink (22) (P, $57.00) is more pigmented, cooler (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Phone Call Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “sheer bright pink.” It’s a bright, medium fuchsia pink with subtle, cool undertones and a luminous sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a creamy, emollient consistency that glided across the lips with ease. It wore well for four and a half hours on me and was moisturizing to wear. Bite Beauty Bellini (DC, $24.00) is less glossy (95% similar). Maybelline Mesmerizing Magenta (P, $7.99) is brighter, less glossy (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Otranto (P, $55.00) is darker (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Raspberry Pink (DC, $37.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). L'Oreal Lacquered Strawberry (P, $9.99) is warmer (90% similar). Make Up For Ever C208 (DC, $22.00) is cooler (90% similar). Givenchy Fuchsia Angora (204) (P, $37.00) is darker (90% similar). Estee Lauder Passionate (P, $30.00) is warmer (90% similar). Chanel Romy (462) (P, $37.00) is brighter (90% similar). Burberry Bright Pink (233) (P, $34.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Plaid Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “sheer deep berry.” It’s a semi-opaque, berry-red with cool, fuchsia undertones and a natural finish. The texture was lightweight, lightly creamy, and sat well on the lips without sliding around. The color was comfortable to wear and lasted well for five and a half hours. It left behind a slight stain and was hydrating as well. Urban Decay Plaid (DC, $18.00) is lighter, glossier (95% similar). Guerlain Madame Batifole (860) (DC, $58.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). I have emailed Urban Decay to ask if these are part of the Revolution formula or not, and when I tried to compare ingredient lists, they seemed very similar, and applied, they also seemed similar, perhaps a little thinner and not as glossy, but it could just be a shade-to-shade variation. The packaging seems like a thinner, cheaper-grade plastic to me and less luxe compared to the Revolution packaging. These contain more than the Revolution lipsticks, though, and are $4 less. The Revolution lipsticks are $244.44/oz., while these are $163.64/oz. * Urban Decay has now confirmed that the Gwen Stefani lipsticks are using the Revolution lipstick formula 🙂

Great reviews, Christine- I can’t wait to get my paws on this! I was also very curious about the formula, and if this is the Revolution formula that I like so much. Sounds similar, hm, although it’s too bad the packaging is cheaper.

Christine Avatar

The packaging definitely feels cheaper, but if they are actually giving $4 off AND more product, then I’d say it’s well-worth it. The packaging isn’t so cheap that it doesn’t serve its purpose: the cap clicks on securely and doesn’t rattle!

The reds are gorgeous, and it’s nice surprise these are a better value than the regular line, but I already have a drawer full of red lipsticks, but need some more red lip liners, so will wait for those reviews. Will need to swatch the pink one in store, to see how it looks on my skintone.

I’m still puzzled by the price/oz. on these – I would have expected the same price, to be honest! That’s why I’m still not confident to say these are Revolution or not… even though the ingredient lists are very, very similar (every shade’s list is a little different, period, but they contain the same major ingredients and in similar orders).

I know! The Gwen lipliners ($20) are regular priced and cost more than the Gwen lipsticks ($18), but great for those looking to buy the lipsticks

Wow…Plaid looks so much warmer in the tube! All of the colors look really nice on you, but I didn’t realize they’d be so sheer. Thanks for the review, Christine!

I really like the Sheer Revolution formula, so if these are similar I’m sure they be great (at least for me). Plaid really surprised me in your search. I had already pegged Phone Call as one I would be picking up along with Firebird. May have to consider Plaid now too! Thanks for the reviews Christine!

I’m a little torn on Ex Girlriend. But, I’m a lip liner girl. So,I’ll wait for the reviews on the liner to decide on that one. I’m thinking it will look pretty paired with its liner. If you don’t get to it, I’ll probably get it because I pretty much have decided that I’m getting most of these if they review well.

Welcome back, old school embossed UD lipstick bullet!

If Firebird reviews well, I’ll definitely go for that! I’m going to also try to swatch Ex-Girlfriend, I think. It’s sheer enough looking that it might not hardly show up on my lips.

I wonder whether it is a marketing thing that they changed the form of the lipstick, because since Gwen is known for the bright colours, in this form they are easier to apply and theoretically could be applied without a lip brush, too. So to avoid that anything could backfire while handling these (and getting the name of the personality fronting the collection into trouble). Or maybe they’ll change the form again in the future? and btw, the design with the golden pattern, while a different version, somehow reminds me of all that gold on the MAC Charlotte Olympia collection. There is a retro vibe to both packagings.

These are all beautiful. I feel more comfortable in a sheer, although pigmented, lipstick, than an opaque one. I’d like to order at least one of these but I bought UD Beso online and it’s much stiffer than I expected. Mine isn’t creamy at all. Is there any way to soften it up? Thanks!

These look all very fresh and glowing! Ex-Girlfriend does not look special in the swatch but applied it look super pretty 🙂

btw, I see two sets of photos twice, of Plaid and Phone Call (and some html in the middle) – (I´m on a laptop).

The swatches and looks are lovely, I like them a lot. If the next batches are just as nice, I’m going to have a hard time deciding which one to get!

Rachel Avatar

These lipsticks are just not pigmented enough for the amount of money they cost. It just seems like I woild be able to get dupes of these “subtle” shades in the drugstore. Maybe the last color, but they’re just too sheer. BTW, Christine I had to say that you look really pretty in deep, bright reds! The color,I think, is just so striking on you! 🙂

Lisette Avatar

I’m looking at Ex-Girlfriend and it looks like it might be an acceptable dupe for MAC’s Hello Kitty Cute-ster? I’ve been dying to find a dupe for it!

Erin Avatar

Plaid and Phone Call both speak to me but with their sheer nature I’m not sure how they will pull from my own lip color. I have Bite Palamino and Bellini is on my wishlist so I’m torn. I think I can probably skip them. Firebird really seems the most unique out of all of them so far. Kind of like the restrained lipstick version of Revlon HD Pink Ruby, which I love.
