Urban Decay Metallized Vice Lipsticks | Swatches + First Impressions

Urban Decay Wrath Vice Lipstick
Urban Decay Wrath Vice Lipstick

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is available in six finishes, and this post is highlighting the Metallized finish. According to the brand, it’s supposed to be a “Cream with a high level of pearl,” but I would say it’s more like a hybrid between the Cream finish and the Sheer Shimmer finish–it’s not as thick or as creamy as the Creams, generally, but it is a more pigmented formula than the Sheer Shimmers.

My initial impressions of the Metallized finish are mixed, because I felt like there was more noticeable variance from shade to shade in this finish.  Shades like Gubby, Whip, and Trick are awfully sheerer compared to shades like Wrath and Zealot.  The sheerer the shade, the more it felt like a Sheer Shimmer, as they were often thinner and had more slip and less of that creaminess that makes the Cream finish feel different from the rest of the line. As a result, I’ve found the wear, thus far, to be anywhere from two to six hours with light to moderate hydration.  Some shades have fine pearl that give it a low-level, more metallic sheen while others have a lot of lighter shimmer (compared to the base color) and appear more amped-up and have a higher-level of frost/metallic sheen.

OMG! Conspiracy looks like it might be a great dupe for MAC Baron’s Rose, my **favorite** lipstick ever! (Mine’s down to a nub, haha!)

Wildfire blows my mind! I’m really looking for something “my lips but better” with shimmer. Was originally looking at Gubby or Whip, but now I’m thinking Peyote. Will have to check them out in store when they release.

Late reply… Amulet on me is a “slightly darker than MLBB” with shimmer… reminds me of a shade I wore a lot many years ago, and I’m liking the even wear-off.

There are a bunch of shades I really like in this finish. I’m thinking of Peyote, Amulet, Conspiracy. I have been wondering for a while if, after years of matte lips everywhere, the pendulum would swing the other way and we’d see a return of metallic lips. Maybe?

Possibly! It’s nice to see some more shimmery, permanent options – and more affordable than Tom Ford’s Lips & Boys.

Too many pretties here! I am really getting into the luminosity factor of late. Some of these DO look far too sheer, though. But I still like Trick and Big Bang as toppers.
My “wish-list” includes: Wrath, Big Bang, Peyote, Conspiracy, Amulet, Wildfire and Trick. Possibly Junkie, if it can be salvaged at all….

I was surprised – no idea really why some shades are “Sheer Shimmer” and some still made it into Metallized.

I think I’m most intrigued by this formula, and I’m glad to hear they are a more sheer iteration, even though it’s marketed as a cream. I picked up quite a few of the Revolution formula when they went on clearance, and was surprised to find that I liked the sheer variation the best. I also like the option to use sheer shimmery shades as a topper, or a way to warm up or cool down another lipstick color. Today I received UD Alice (from the Alice Through the Looking Glass collection) which falls into that category. It has a warm base with a cooler, superfine pink shimmer, and looks great alone, but also over other lipsticks. I tried it over Sheer Beso, and loved the extra depth it added, to make a really wearable neutral for me.

I will say I don’t think the new packaging (if it’s like Alice, and it looks like it is), holds a candle to the Revolution packaging, which is one of my most favorites (especially the sheer’s as they’re purple!). Maybe that’s one reason why they’ve dropped the price from $22 (Revolution) to $17 (Vice). I’m looking forward to your eventual reviews. Thank you for your first impressions! 🙂

They also increased the size — 0.11 oz. compared to 0.09 oz. for Revolution. The actual weight decrease is 0.3 oz., all in the base!

Big Bang reminds me of Kat Von D Valentine (which was discontinued with the rest of the Foiled Love lipstick line) only much more pigmented.

For the most part, I’m loving the looks of this finish. I wish Bobby Dazzle were way more pearly, though. The lighter shades don’t looks so hot by themselves.

Peyote is so beautiful, it’s on the list.. as well as studded even tho the swatcheroo isn’t particularly stellar. I have a silly girl crush on big bang, but its not really my speed these days.

Some of these looked a little patchy in the swatches, but I love the finish. Wildfire is my favourite – a really intriguing colour for summer.
This is an amazing amount of work you have done here Christine.

I find that some of the stiffer, balmy formulas can do that – I guess they melt faster against the lips? but I am not sure. It might also be the warmth of the lips lets the formula sink in/melt more, too.

I always appreciate your swatches(and hard work) Christine! I’m interested in Conspiracy, Backdoor, Amulet(the only neutrals that I KNOW will work for me) and Junkie. I’m pretty okay with the sheerness, but hope they last more than 2 hours(for them to be worth the price). May check out the NYX Wicked lippies for dupes.

So far, the darker and more pigmented ones are lasting longer than two hours. It’s ones that are really sheer and have more slip that seem to disappear faster!

Oooooh! These are super pretty and unique! Will have to find room in my ever growing collection for a few. I await the grades!

It remains a mystery why brands who release a fair number of products (cough, cough MAC) don’t have plenty of shimmery shades to entice us…

Does Big Bang feel gritty to wear, or does it just look gritty? I’m crazy about the color and dimension of that one! But I have one of the KVD shades with a lot of shimmer in it and the thing is so gritty when my lips touch together it annoys me too much to wear it, boo. Don’t want to pursue this one if it is gritty too.

These are GORGEOUS! And I say this from a place where I’ve been disliking all new makeup I see. I love a bunch of these.

Oooh Shimmery Reds! Yesss! Cruel and Wrath look like the perfect balance between red pigment and enough translucency to show the shimmers and give good glitter coverage

Peyote is my favorite so far!Sancho is awesome and Studded reminds me of a Lip Smakers gloss I had in the 90’s so I will probably try both of those.Gubby looks very pretty even though it is sheer.

Wildfire is AMAZING. Hope it gets a good grade!!! Also, I know we’ve talked about a good shimmery red and how rare that is Christine! I’m hoping Cruel is a good one and fits the bill! ?

I saw these reds and thought that one would make a really nice Christmasy color. But Im having a hard time choosing one. Do you have a recommendation?
