Too Faced Pumpkin Spice Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Pumpkin Spice
Too Faced Pumpkin Spice 18-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.43 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that included six shimmer and 12 matte eyeshadows, so it ended up being more matte-heavy than I’d normally expect from the brand. I felt like most of the mattes were denser and more velvety–a bit more substantial, which resulted in better coverage and adhesion while still being blendable. The shimmers were more of a mixed bag, especially as three of the six were chunkier/sparklier textures, which had some fallout and were better applied with fingertips.
There was a sweet, vanilla scent wafting from the palette while it was opening, though I didn’t notice any scent while wearing it. I only got the “pumpkin pie” notes (e.g. spices) if I had my nose almost IN the pans themselves.

Whipped Cream (Pumpkin Spice)
Whipped Cream (Pumpkin Spice) is a light beige with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation but was moderately powdery, which made it prone to sheering out and had some fallout during application. It lasted for seven hours before fading visibly.

Crisp
Crisp is a brighter, medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and warmer, peachy gold shimmer and micro-sparkle. The texture was slightly drier to the touch, which resulted in some of the micro-sparkle spreading further than desired due to it coming away from the base. It had good color coverage that stayed on well for eight hours but had light fallout during application and during wear.

Fall for It
Fall for It is a medium orange with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer. The texture was soft, finely-milled, and a touch powdery in the pan but didn’t prove to be problematic on the lid. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Pumpkin Spice
Pumpkin Spice is a bright, lighter orange with strong, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Fall Vibes
Fall Vibes is a bright, darker greenish-gold with a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was chunkier and less smooth as there was a lot of larger sparkle throughout, though the formula seemed denser and held together better than anticipated. I’d recommend applying this shade with a fingertip in order to get smoother coverage as a dry brush applied the product unevenly and resulted in decent fallout. It lasted decently for eight hours with some fallout over time.

Oh My Gourd
Oh My Gourd is a light pink with strong, warm undertones and an intense, metallic finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, which was opaque if applied with a dampened brush or a fingertip–and both of those applied the color more evenly and with less fallout compared to a dry brush. I was able to pat and press it into place with minimal fallout using a dry brush if I was careful. This shade lasted well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Wanna Piece of Me
Wanna Piece of Me is a light mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a sparkling sheen. It had good color payoff that could be built up to full coverage if applied with a fingertip or a dampened brush. The texture was slightly drier and chunkier, so it tended to apply with less fallout when patted and pressed on, particularly if used with a fingertip/dampened brush. It wore decently for eight hours but had light fallout over time.

PSL and Chill
PSL and Chill is a light-medium purple with cooler, iridescent shimmer through a more pearly finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff that adhered evenly to bare skin but needed to be picked up with a moderate hand as the texture was a bit firmer and thinner compared to most shades in the palette. It stayed on for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Spice of Life (Pumpkin Spice)
Spice of Life (Pumpkin Spice) is a muted, deep purple with cooler undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer but was very buildable and blendable, which made it a lot easier to work with than anticipated. It’s beautiful. Really beautiful. Shades are definitely my taste, but…four shimmers have that infernal sodium saccharine in them! And wouldn’t you know it, three of them are shades I’d want to use in the inner corner/tearduct region? Oy vey!
(Furiously scuttles around my stash looking for dupes)
Hi, Nancy! You’ve possibly saved me from a terrible experience by pointing this out. I got curious about what sodium saccharide is and why it might be bad in eyeshadows, and apparently it can cause an allergic reaction if you have a sulfa allergy. I discovered that I have a sulfa allergy about a year ago. My doctor never mentioned avoiding anything outside of actual sulfa drugs, and I’ve unwittingly avoided sodium saccharide in food/drinks/cosmetics up to this point. This palette is pretty, but I’m not risking my health for makeup. Thanks again, because I never would have known if you hadn’t said something.
Wow, never heard of this! Sulfa allergy, wonder if that’s what’s happe Ning in our city with the pollution. For the past two years, my cat, me and other people I know wake up with eye irritation. Thanks for sharing!
And you, Nikki, just saved me from a bad experience as well!
I also have a sulfa allergy (known it since I was a baby, almost died from it back then) and I never knew of any correlation between sulfa and any other chemical substance. Thank you so much for pointing it out!
Hi Jane, I suppose it’s possible that my allergy is pollution-related, but I’ve lived in relatively in relatively un-polluted areas my entire life. I‘ve known I was allergic to penicillin since I was a child, and since penicillin and sulfa are two of the most common drug allergies, I think I’m just one of the statistically unlucky few who has both. I’m just thankful that it’s easy enough to avoid penicillin and sulfa drugs, unlike a lot of food allergies or pollen allergies.
My, now I’ll try to stay aware of this, thanks Nancy!
Wow, a B+ for a dark matte purple is pretty impressive, especially from Too Faced, who I don’t really think of as a brand for mattes or purples.
Thanks for the review. There are quite a few shades I really like here, especially Falling for You. I think I’ll make it an ‘end of the first week of school’ treat in a couple of weeks…
Quite a good showing for tf. it’s easy to pick out color family quads, find BB and transition shades, and be adventurous. Fun. and it looks as if they’re improving, and maybe even adulting.
It’s quite a large palette and to have all those mattes coming out with very decent ratings, shows how much Too Faced has improved from where the brand was a few years ago (perhaps a new MD?).
For a brand that can do shimmers and metalllics well, it was disappointing to see chunkier glitter being used.
A really stunning eye look too Christine.
I’m definitely not in the market for a palette right now, but this might be the first Too Faced palette in awhile that marginally tempts me. I’ve never actually used Too Faced eyeshadows because they always seemed too inconsistent to me (or maybe it’s just a ploy to sell more TFSI, which I used to use before using MAC Painterly as a primer/base color). I feel like their wheelhouse is more in the primers and bronzers realm, both of which I use and they make my hands down favorite highlighter (the diamond light). But I’m legit tempted. I likely won’t unless it goes on sale after the holidays though. I’d mostly be buying it for the oranges, of which I have plenty, and Falling for You, of which I have four dupes because apparently I’m a sucker for those green-tinged golds.
I dismissed this at first, but I kind of like it. Some of the mattes look so rich and kind of unique.
Same here, had dismissed it. But now?!
This has been reviewing far better than I would have guessed. It’s nice to see Too Faced learned how to do decent purples. I think it’s a really pretty palette, and I ordered it.
This is very nice. It swatches well and has an interesting colour story (for TF standards). By the way this swatches makes me realize that I have already own all the shades, even if scattered in 3-4 palettes. So a totally useless purchasing, but maybe it could ispirate me about now ways to arrange look with different palette (I love to play with one shade in a palette, one from the other etc… If I have time, but the only good thing that came from this pandemic is that I am much less often in a hurry in the morning…)
I’ll get this palette eventually. I like the colors and bought the Papaya Pop palette . I really liked the mattes in that palette , and these look and sound similar. I don’t Gingerbread or extra spicey Gingerbread so I don’t have to worry about duping those . The purples were pretty impressive to be honest.
Does anyone know if or when this pallette is coming to Europe? I can’t find it anywhere at the moment on the beauty retailer websites in my region
What can I say? I love 5 of the shadows – Fall Vibes, Falling for You, Wanna Piece of Me, PSL and Chill and the more matte purple one. A few I can take or leave but all those oranges and hot pinks – just NO! The fall out issue and the scent – even though it’s mild and inoffensive and I’m not bothered by scent in most things – also detract for me but it’s mostly the preponderance of shades like Fall for It and You Spicy that would prevent me buying this unless I find it deeply discounted/on sale.
I have to concur with many of the comments, it’s very visually appealing! I wouldn’t have thought I’d consider it, B+ is my limit rating from you, but as others have said, if the mattes did well, well that may just interest me. Very appealing! I really like the khaki, orange, purple vibe! My fav colors together! Hmmmmm! ND’s Glam or this? I know they are completely different, so both! LOL! Sales, sales, sales needed. Black Friday? (Can I wait?)
Oh my, I just looked over the colors closely and PSL AND CHILL is such a lovely and unique looking purple!!!! Arghhhh!!!
Oops, error it was Spice of Life the one I meant, and after looking, I have 11 dupes over 85% and no Spice of Life :(. What’s a girl to do?! Boo hoo!
It’s muted rainbow palette! Perfect for me with my muted/greenish skintone. Regular rainbow palettes are too pure color and my eye looks end up appearing to float on top of my skin instead of blending/transitioning into it. Sweetie pie is the sleeper standout shade. All the reviews love the pinks and yellow oranges, but that baby poop brown is the transition shade of my dreams.
I think it’s one of the best curated color stories I’ve seen in a while AND it’s laid out in a logical manner. Each row is a family, colors that work together are placed together, it goes from light to dark to make finding your transitions and deepeners easy to find. You can take any color and pair or triple it with any other color and get a cohesive look (I’ve tried it, have yet to make a bad color combo). It’s evident so much thought has gone into the color story and the color placement. Everytime I open the palette I’m inspired to try something new. I wish more palettes did this instead of randomly placing shades to make your eye “dance”. That gives me some kind of visual anxiety. If the shimmers weren’t so fussy/fallout wasn’t so beastly, think this is a great palette to give a beginner as an intro to prestige brands.
Pass.
I wasn’t even remotely interested in this palette until these swatches! ?
This is one of the nicest palettes too faced has released in a VERY long time. I got it about it a week ago and I have been so impressed. The mattes are really beautiful and the shimmers are nice too. I have no issue applying shimmers with my finger though so keep that in mind. I actually prefer it.
I am impressed! This is a gorgeous color selection and I’m so tempted to get it just for the mattes. Except, this palette is not hypoallergenic like everyone said. SUCH A Bummer. I honestly feel like the product developers should release a perfume alongside the collection if they want to be in the market of scent and keep the actual face products fragrance free.
This has some really beautiful and quality shades in it! This is the first Too Faced palette to call to me since the chocolate bar ones. I do think that Pat Mcgrath palettes have spoiled me for the variety in textures and complexity in the shimmer-metallic category, but if I were starting all over, this one would really tempt me. I can see myself using every shade in this palette.
Despite its B or 88% rating, I was surprised many of these colors appeared unique. About half of the shades are dupable compared to 100s of my palettes. The rest of shades aren’t.. perhaps I’ll need to take a look at other palettes not listed here (Morphe, Juvias Place, and Lime Crime) I know the last two brands are controversial. Instead of wanting to get this, I wonder if there are any links that has swatches for other brands of which I mentioned above?
This goes instantly in my wishlist. The quality is nice and I really like the color story.
When I compare this palette and the UD infamous last release, I really think TF had taken the soft spot I had for UD in my heart. At least it shows brands can really improve over time. But the comparison of the two brands hurts
I keep looking at this and so much wanting it, but I’m so glad I have 11-12 dupes and it’s a B+. Here’s a time where your dupe database saves me money! Thanks!
