Tarte Namaste Tarteist Lip Paint
Tarte Namaste Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a light, peachy beige with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. The texture was drier, more mousse-like and less liquid-y compared to other shades, but it had a drier, more powdery feel and look applied as a result. The texture was also “crumbly” with little chunks of product (again, as if it wasn’t mixed thoroughly). Despite it not having a full dry down, it “cracked” and pulled color deeply into my lip lines and emphasized the natural texture of my lips. The color lasted for three hours and was drying. Milani Adore (LE, $8.99) is lighter, less glossy (95% similar). Anastasia Pure Hollywood (P, $20.00) is lighter (95% similar). KVD Beauty Noble (P, $20.00) is warmer, less glossy (95% similar). Tarte TBT Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a medium, rosy plum with a luminous shine. It almost looked shimmery to me, as it reflected light back. It had good color payoff, but it had one of the most watery consistencies within the range. It applied well but pulled into lip lines within a half hour of wear. The color wore for three and a half hours on me but wasn’t drying. Tarte Praise (LE, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). Bite Beauty Pepper (DC, $24.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC So Select (P, $19.00) is more muted, cooler (90% similar). Make Up For Ever #4 (DC, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Too Faced Sellout (P, $21.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). Tarte Fomo Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a muted, rosy plum with neutral-to-cool undertones and a satin finish. It had rich color coverage that went on smoothly with a thin texture that wasn’t too runny or too dry. The color wore for four hours and did pull into lip lines slightly, though pressing my lips together would smooth it back out as the consistency just never dries. On me, it was neither drying nor hydrating. Bite Beauty Macaroon (P, $24.00) is lighter (95% similar). Bite Beauty Pastille (DC, $24.00) is warmer, glossier (95% similar). MAC Nouvelle Vogue (LE, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Maybelline Nocturnal Rose (P, $7.49) is warmer (95% similar). ColourPop Brain Freeze (DC, $5.00) is lighter (90% similar). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lydia (DC, $18.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). NARS Anna (P, $34.00) is lighter, more muted (85% similar). KVD Beauty Mother (P, $19.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Brave (P, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Metallic Rose (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). ColourPop Contempo (DC, $7.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a pigmented, matte liquid lipstick that’s long-wearing. First thing to note is that these never fully dry down, so they are not transfer-proof, but they are less drying than the typical liquid lipstick that dries down completely. They are quite pigmented and despite transferring onto cups, while you eat, and so forth, a lot of the color is left behind. You can also touch-up without having to completely remove the formula. The texture is inconsistent; some shades are thin and have a soft shine even after ten minutes of wear, while others are almost mousse-like in the tube, and these ones tend to be more matte from the get-go. There is a very subtle mint scent, but I don’t notice it at all once it is on. I do notice that it is easier to get these on the teeth than other lip products. The formula is lightly to moderately drying over time, but it is long-wearing with most shades ranging between five and seven hours of wear. The majority are satin to semi-matte with a little sheen, which you can either blot once for a matte finish or wait about an hour or two for it to naturally mattify (like any satin finish really).

Namaste looks so fresh and spring-like on you! Even though the formulas aren’t perfect, I like the colors Tarteist and Fomo, don’t think I have any dupes in my stash, so will probably pick one of those to try
Thank you, Katherine! 🙂
I have put Fomo in and out of my Sephora.com cart. Maybe this will be the one I give a try. 🙂
I will be curious if you grab it 🙂
Ordered a few of Tartiest lip paints and wanted Fomo but it’s only available for VIB Rouge members via Sephora. Lamesauce. Also, I think Wet n Wild 902C Mauve Outta Here could be a good dupe for it but Fomo has a different consistency.
I hope they’ll eventually release it to everyone!
Yeah, my So Fetch was the texture of Namaste here. >_< We are having a very mild winter here, but the day it arrived at was 3'C so it was cold.
I'm starting to wonder if there is a batch issue or a temperature issue with the formula.
It’s so weird that they are inconsistent! 🙁
I want your version of So Fetch. 😉
But I think I’m going to return it on Monday when I’m back in city to the local Sephora. This will not do Tarte.
I don’t really return things unless I feel like the product is a utter fail but at $24CAN I expect more from this product as well.
Will you exchange or just return? I’m curious if it is shade by shade, inconsistencies within batches, or what!
Fomo and TBT are my kind of shades, and they both look very good applied to your actual lips as opposed to swatches! My only fear is that TBT may be too close to some of the ones I already own. But Fomo isn’t!
And I’m leaving Namaste ALONE!
Fomo is a cool one!
I love the color of FOMO though I wonder if NARS Anna would be a better choice. I like the slight more depth of hue and color on FOMO but I think Anna might be better for drier lips. I prefer the price of FOMO.
Anna might be nicer to your lips!
I like the color of Fomo, though I’m not so sure I’d like the formula. I see Nars Anna is a dupe which always looks so good to me in swatches, but when I swatch it in person, it seems warmer. One of these days I’m going to try Colour Pop Contempo and Lumiere which are supposed to be dupes of Anna, and that way I won’t be out too much if I don’t like them.
Anna is one of those shades that seems to pull cooler/warmer depending on your undertones (or what you’re wearing).
Is the texture similar to the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams? The colors look pretty and ultra wearable!
Yes! I would say that some shades are thicker than the SMLCs.
Namaste looks lovely on you. I’d go for TBT and FOMO, nice natural cool pinks.
Thanks, Claire!
Fomo, oh my gosh, so pretty! <3
That seems to be the fave!
Fomo is a really nice colour! I had to Google “fomo”, I knew it was supposed to mean something lol
lol! I had to google too!
Did anyone notice or have the issue of the lipstick having like an oily residue all over the packaging? I bought tbt and when I went to use it today there’s oil all over the outside and it was not like that when I purchased it a couple weeks ago
Nope, no issues on mine. Bought mine from Tarte, if that helps.
I’m noticing that the packaging for my TBT shade of the Tarteist lip paint always has an oily residue. When I was cleaning some of my makeup storage, there was even a small puddle of this same residue. Really considering just tossing it. Plus the shade looked more brown on me than anything.
Yes that happened to me too! I have the color namaste from the nude Sephora lip kit, I hate the consistency of it. I had mine placed upright on one those acrylic lip stick stands and when I went to pick it up there was an oily residue all over the tube.
Thank you for an honest review compared all the others out there…. I used to trust beautypedia.com since 1999. Over these past few years their reviews are a hit and missed. I think Paula Begoun herself quit reviewing prducts but employed newbies. I can’t belived they rated this product 4 stars out of 5… this lipstick wasted my money. Its doesnt stay past 2 hours and I dont even eat or drink. Color is not transfer proof. More like a tinted color lip gloss to me. Again, thank you for all your help information.
No problem, Sara! Yes, these are definitely not transfer-proof, and I think Tarte needed to make that a stronger statement!
