Hong Kong by Night (27)
Sephora Hong Kong by Night (27) Lipstories Lipstick ($8.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark red with subtle, warm undertones and a gold and ruby sparkle and pearl. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer with a lightly creamy consistency that was thin enough that I could feel the texture of the larger sparkles in the finish. This shade applied well and lasted for almost six hours. It left behind a slight stain and was lightly moisturizing on me.

Formula Overview
$8.00/0.14 oz. - $57.14 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "lightweight" with "full-coverage color in one swipe." The majority of shades were pigmented with semi-opaque to full color payoff in a single layer, as described. The more shimmery shades tended to be a bit sheerer overall, while the mattes and creams were usually closer to opaque in coverage.
The textures were typically creamy, lightweight, and not too thin or too thick on the lips, so they were comfortable to apply and to wear. There were some shades where the color pulled into my deeper lip lines upon application, and it was more or less noticeable just depending on the color and finish of the particular.
Some shades seemed hydrating and others were non-drying. They lasted anywhere from three to over six hours on me. There was a subtle, sweet, fruity scent (I couldn't detect it on, just in the tube), and I haven't noticed any taste after wearing them.

Malt Shake (29)
Sephora Malt Shake (29) Lipstories Lipstick ($8.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep, reddish burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. The lipstick had a smooth, creamy consistency with a lot of slip, but in spite of the slip, it actually applied evenly and yielded opaque color payoff in a single layer. The downside was that it was prone to moving and feathered on me within three hours of wear, though the color lasted for closer to five and a half hours on me. It left a stain behind and was lightly moisturizing.

My goodness, Hong Kong and Matinee are gorgeous! I’m happy to see so many of these performing well, especially at that price point.
These new Sephora lipsticks look so nice, and the price is great! Cute packaging too! I definitely need to choose a few of these to get. I don’t feel comfortable in reds, but that sparkly red looks so pretty!
I have and absolutely ? Hong Kong. Matinee is of interest to me also.
I have several from this line and love them. I just wish the packaging was a bit sturdier. I’ve had the top pop out on some of them.
HK by Night is outstanding on you!
Stunning, glorious shades – all of them, but I love Malt Shake the best. I think my lipstick collection is going to grow this year….
Since the lip swatch itself sold me on Hong Kong by Night, I did purchase it awhile back. But I haven’t had a chance to wear it yet. It does feel wonderful seeing it score so well!
Now, if only Malt Shake had not feathered on you! But because it did, and I have some vertical lines from having once been a smoker, yeah… guaranteed mess.
Hong Kong and Matinee! I love Sephora lipsticks — my opinion over the last 15 years has been that Sephora lipsticks are quality at an affordable price.
I’m loving the looks of Hong Kong by Night.
Hong Kong by Night is gorgeous! Malt Shake looks so much more red in your swatches and review than it did on my arm in store….maybe it deserves another look.
Matinee is very pretty. The biggest problem I’m finding about this lipstick line is that every time I go to Sephora, all the shades I’m interested in are out of stock. And I’m talking about three different stores that are within reasonable driving distance.
