Marc Jacobs Beauty Omega Eyeshadows Reviews & Swatches (Part 1)
The Big O
Marc Jacobs Beauty The Big O Omega Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a soft, peachy-brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was a smidgen dusty with this shade, though it had good pigmentation and adhered well to bare skin without sheering out too readily. I didn’t have any trouble blending out the edges, and it didn’t seem to turn the other, deeper matte shades grayish when I blended it into them. It lasted well for eight and a half hours on me.

Formula Overview
$29.00/0.13 oz. - $223.08 Per Ounce
The formula promises "12 hours" of wear with "high-impact, crease-resistant color." The matte shades were very smooth and finely-milled that they felt almost cream-like, though they were definitely a powder. They were pigmented and most shades blended out easily over bare skin with eight to nine hour wear. The shimmery shades were creamier, a bit more silicone-like by touch, but they weren't too dense or too thick, so they didn't emphasize my lid texture and still applied well with brushes. They lasted between eight and nine hours on me and were typically quite pigmented.

Daddi-O
Marc Jacobs Beauty Daddi-O Omega Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a light-medium brown with warm, yellowish undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the consistency was smooth and velvety without being powdery–substantial enough that I had no trouble applying it to bare skin. It blended out with ease and stayed on well for nine and a half hours on me before fading slightly.

O Mercy
Marc Jacobs Beauty O Mercy Omega Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a muted, deep red with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a smooth, silky texture that was more firmly-pressed in the pan, so there wasn’t any powderiness, but it wasn’t stiff to work with. I was able to pick up product well with a brush, and it yielded nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer. The eyeshadow blended out easily and stayed on well for nine hours.

Dynam-O
Marc Jacobs Beauty Dynam-O Omega Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a medium-dark, bluish-gray with cool undertones and faint sparkle over a matte finish. It had good pigmentation, which was buildable to opaque coverage with two layers. The texture felt smooth to the touch without being powdery, but it didn’t adhere to my lid as evenly as I expected as it seemed particularly prone to grabbing onto any natural oils on my skin, so it was a bit harder to blend out the edges and really get even coverage without a primer. On its own, it lasted for eight and a half hours on me.

This product confuses me. Was there someone out there dying for giant expensive eyeshadows?
Naaaw, Mr. Jacobs, you can keep your $30 eyeshadow singles, sir. I don’t need a neutral brown, grey or maroon for $30! I can buy a whole high end palette for the price of 2 singles! And I don’t need to hear “there’s so much product in one single” garbage. Nobody finishes an eyeshadow, unless it’s a Wet n Wild Brulee for a whopping 0.99 cents. ( I use it for browbone every day.) I don’t see the need for anyone to shell out over $30 bucks (don’t forget about tax, people) for one boring matte eyeshadow.
The Big O might be too warm for me but I love those saddle/peach colors!
These are all pretty good mattes, except for the gray one (which is often hard to get right). Beautiful eye look Christine.
$36 in Canada for ONE SINGLE eyeshadow (and most either mediocre or highly dupe-able or both). Sorry, Marc…I’m not a fan of highway robbery (but I make an exception for your skinny liners!)
I’m not going to buy a huge singe eye shadow, at least not if it isn’t very unique, but I must say I like that gorgeous red one. Going to check the dupes list, I already know I don’t have anything very close to it.
Seems I’m not totally over the warmish reds yet 🙂
Wow … O Mercy is amazing. If I were planning on doing a one-color red eye shadow look for the rest of my life, I would totally get that. But in all seriousness, Daddi O is the exact shade that I make one-color eye shadow looks from when I’m feeling like I can’t be bothered, but since I have too many eye shadows to use just one for the rest of my like, I don’t feel like I can justify it.
I can’t imagine buying a giant expensive single eyeshadow, unless it’s a shade I’m already familiar with from a palette. A few years ago I was looking for a dupe of UD Limit from Naked3, but never found a good one. I loved the shade so much I might have actually bought a giant size. But I’m over it now. So the giant size probably would have gone to waste.
See, I’m an outlier because I would buy one big eye shadow if it happened to be in a shade I would use daily, like a shade to set my primer or a perfect transition shade. If, say, Wet n Wild released a massive Brulee I would be ON IT.
But at this price point I don’t know. It doesn’t seem worthwhile to me. But I do understand the concept, and maybe a professional makeup artist who sees dozens of clients would make better use of large eye shadow singles than the average consumer.
I’ve done this with a brow bone highlight shade (Burberry Trench), and I was hoping one of the MJB shades might work since Trench has been discontinued. Not that I couldn’t replace it with a slew of other, less-than-$30 singles, though. I like having my brow bone highlighter as a single, since then I can keep it separate from everything else and reach for it whenever (makes it particularly good with palettes that don’t have a brow bone highlighter for me). I think it can also work, though, if someone just had a “basics” custom palette with a few transition/crease shades and brow bone highlighter, etc.
I don’t disagree with the concept entirely, I’m just one of those people that can’t justify it because they have too many eye shadows already. If I could roll life back to my simpler days, I’d happily get Daddi O and use it exclusive of anything else. Also an ivory shade, which I haven’t seen come up yet, but I’m sure they must have one. Yeah … I could easily see having a lifetime supply of just two shadows. But it’s too late for that.
