MAC Just Add Romance Velvetease Lip Pencil
MAC Aim to Please Velvetease Lip Pencil
MAC Just Add Romance Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep red.” It’s a medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, though you can still see a hint of lip freckle peeking through, so it is not quite full coverage. The texture was a little creamier than some shades, which made it more comfortable to wear, and it may have helped prolong the wear, too, as this one lasted for six hours. It was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Red Rock (P, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Leading Lady Red (LE, $18.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Kinky (LE, $19.00) is darker, more muted (95% similar). MAC High Heels (LE, $21.00) is less glossy (95% similar). MAC Opera (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Just My Type Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “clean blue fuchsia.” It’s a slightly brightened, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a semi-matte finish. There seemed to be very, very finely-milled pearl that gave it a less-than-matte sheen, but I wouldn’t describe it as shimmery. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth texture that applied without tugging on the lips. The color wore well for five hours and was slightly drying after four hours of wear. Dior Ultra Atomic (660) (P, $37.00) is darker, glossier (95% similar). Hourglass I Can't Wait (P, $34.00) is glossier (95% similar). ColourPop Out of Sync (LE, $7.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Lover’s Lane Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep orange.” It’s a bright, medium-dark orange with warm, red undertones and a semi-matte finish. This had great pigmentation with full coverage and a lightly creamy consistency that applied easily and yielded smooth, even coverage as well. The color wore well for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Tomango (LE, $19.00) is brighter (95% similar). NYX Indie Flick (P, $6.00) is cooler (95% similar). Estee Lauder Volatile (P, $32.00) is darker (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Lady Ruba (P, $28.00) is lighter (95% similar). Dior Trafalgar (844) (P, $34.00) is glossier (95% similar). FORMULA SUMMARY | MAC Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is supposed to have “the vivid colour impact of a lipstick” with a “smooth” and “matte finish.” The pencil has a really soft, smooth texture that is thin and glides on without tugging or skipping, but it is noticeably thin on the lips, which I find can be unforgiving if you have any dryness or flakiness on your lips. The wear is between three and five hours with lighter shades disappearing more quickly and deeper shades lasting a little longer and/or staining. They are slightly drying to just not drying (but none are hydrating). Overall, they are comfortable to wear, but a few shades tend to look patchy as they wear down on me. They are twist-up, jumbo-sized lip pencils, so they don’t require sharpening (no waste!). Keep in mind, twist-up jumbo pencils like this one often contain less product than a traditional lipstick (which usually contain 0.10 to 0.15 oz.).

These are all so pretty and vibrant, lovely lovely lovely!
Which one is your favorite?
These look like summer shades! I like Just my type. The other two are pretty dupable.
Those other two are definitely easier to dupe!
I’m so relieved that these performed well! I’m not convinced that the value is so great compared to regular/full sized lipsticks, but the pencil format seems to be easy to use and store. I love these colors.
Phew! 🙂
Pretty, but dupable. These look much better than the lighter shades.
True!
Well, I’m glad these add a punch of pigment, as the regular Patent Lip Polishes were too sheer for me, but these are a lot more expensive per oz compared to BITE High Pigment pencil, and I would buy the MAC one only if BITE didn’t have a similar color. I wish MAC would either lower the price or up the amount of product in here
Good point, Katherine!
Woohoo!!!! All A’s! And every one of these are gorgeous, too!
However, I know that I am stocked up on dupes for each of the 3, so no, I won’t be getting any. It will be fairly difficult to leave that red alone, though….LoL!
LOL! You are covered 😉
I bought Aim to Please and Reddy to Go this weekend. I have worn both. Aim to Please is a dupe for NARS Dolce Vita. I found this formular a little more moisturizing that NARS. It might also be bigger. I love the automatic sharpener. Not to mention the MAC Pro PPID price. 🙂
Glad you’re enjoying the formula, Chris!
I see why you gave these lip pencils A’s! They look like they perform so well and they are beautiful on you!
They were much better than the first set!
All winners in my book! I have the dupes of my favorites though so I’ll pass!
Your wallet is happy! 😀
I hope one day see MOXIE in the permanent range of MAC lipsticks.
That’d be great!
I was curious about this formula. Glad to see they got a good review. I might pick one up. I like the red and orange colored ones. As usual your gorgeous eye look really enhances the pretty lipsticks!
Would you say just add romance is more comfortable to wear than dragon girl?It looks great as a bright cool red Thanks, Anya
A little bit but not by a lot or anything!
Love them all! I think I’m a lip product junkie. I want them all, even though I have dupes for all of them. I might get Just Add Romance, as I find Ruby Woo so drying I have to really prepare befor using it, and rehydrate like crazy after, so it’s not a lipstick I just pick because I feel like it.
I would like to get Just My Type, because that is what it is 🙂
As for warm orangey I love Lady Danger and need no other.
A very MAC post, this.
