Editor's Review

MAC Red Rock Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a "classic clean red [with a Matte finish]." It's a bright, medium red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was intensely pigmented, velvety-smooth, and glided on easily. This was easily the best shade out of the new shades that launched (that I've tried). It was still going strong after six hours of wear, though it was slightly drying after four and a half hours. MAC Just Add Romance (P, $20.00) is darker (90% similar). Bite Beauty Fraise (DC, $24.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Opera (LE, $19.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). NARS Deadly Catch (LE, $26.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). MAC Lasting Passion (P, $22.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). KVD Beauty Outlaw (P, $20.00) is warmer, less glossy (90% similar). MAC Kinky (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Tenor Voice (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Von Teese (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). KVD Beauty Tijuana (DC, $21.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). MAC Self Esteem (LE, $19.00) is darker, more muted, cooler (90% similar). Dior 999 Matte (999) (P, $35.00) is more muted, warmer (90% similar). Anastasia American Doll (P, $20.00) is less glossy (90% similar). Urban Decay Doubt (DC, $18.00) is darker (85% similar). Urban Decay 714 (DC, $18.00) is darker (85% similar). KVD Beauty Santa Sangre (LE, $19.00) is darker, more muted (85% similar). Maybelline Red for Me (P, $7.49) is darker, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Silhouette (LE, $6.50) is darker, less glossy (85% similar). ColourPop Lucky Star (LE, $7.00) is darker, more muted, cooler (85% similar). MAC Rouge en Snow (LE, $19.00) is darker, more muted, cooler (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

For me this was a great alternative to Ruby Woo, which is such a beautiful color, but the Retro Matte formula is too drying for me. (Of course now that I have found Temptalia, I can see all of the non-matte dupes for Ruby Woo!)
