MAC Flamingo Park Eyeshadow Palette
MAC Flamingo Park Eyeshadow Palette

MAC Flamingo Park Eyeshadow Palette ($40.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a mix of springtime pastels and bold brights. It’s not perfect, but it still surprised me, as they went on fairly well with decent or better pigmentation and blended out without major issues. In general, I find MAC eyeshadows perform a little better applied to the eye than initially swatched. It’s probably one of the more interesting palettes/quads MAC has put out in awhile, as they’ve done quite a few neutral-like ones in recent memory. I think the majority of the issues I experienced with the shades (detailed below) will be solved by using primer. I wish Sushi Flower and Elegant Friend had been swapped out for better performing shades, as those are the two big duds in the palette (Naturally Fabulous builds really well, so it’s workable for most application styles).

Flounce is described as a “chalky white pink [with a Matte finish].” It’s a light, pastel pink with cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth consistency that was a little thin but not dusty to work with. This shade stayed on well for seven and a half hours. LORAC Light Pink (PiP, $19.00) is brighter (95% similar). KVD Beauty Plum (Highlight) (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). bareMinerals Velvet Lavender (LE, $14.00) is cooler (95% similar). ColourPop Celeb (LE, $4.50) is warmer (95% similar). LORAC Bonfire (LE, $19.00) is brighter (95% similar). Tarte Caregiver (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). Glamour Light is described as a “soft lemon yellow [with a Satin finish].” It’s a soft, creamy yellow with a satin sheen. It had fantastic pigmentation with a lightly dense, buttery texture that went on smoothly and evenly with little effort. On me, the color wore for eight hours before fading slightly. Tarte Rock On (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Greenluxe #1 (PiP, ) is cooler (95% similar). NARS Night Star (P, $19.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Floridazzle is described as a “soft lime green [with a Satin finish].” It’s a softened, light-medium green with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. Dior Peacock (434) Eyeshadow #1 (LE, ) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Cle de Peau Champagne Supernova #4 (PiP, ) is lighter (90% similar). Flock & Roll is described as a “light pastel pink [with a Matte finish].” It’s a light-medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that blended out well but didn’t look powdery on the skin. The color wore well for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably. MAC Sugar Snack (LE, $17.00) is cooler (95% similar). Fenty Beauty Sleepova (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). Sushi Flower is described as a “pinky coral with pink shimmer [with a Satin finish].” It’s a muted, medium pink with warm undertones and a very subtle sheen. It was powdery and prone to sheering out as a result. The color payoff was semi-sheer at best, and without a white or tacky base, it didn’t get better with building or layering. On me, it wore for seven and a half hours before fading. Sephora Lily (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). MAC Fotos Y Recuerdos (LE, $17.00) is lighter (95% similar). Bird’s Eye View is described as a “hot magenta [with a Satin finish].” It’s an intense, bright fuchsia pink with cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. The pigmentation was incredibly rich and opaque, while the texture was smooth, silky, and blendable. It felt more like a Matte2 finish than a satin or matte finish. Elegant Friend is described as a “dirty lavender [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a muted, medium-dark, silvery lavender with a frosted finish. The texture was slightly dry and dusty, so it would benefit greatly from a primer, as it doesn’t stick as well to bare skin on its own. It was blendable but only because it sheered out. The color wore well for seven and a half hours. MAC Time to Tango (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Nashville (PiP, $16.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Naturally Fabulous is described as a “warm mid-tone brown [with a Matte finish].” It’s a slightly muted, medium-dark brown with warm, reddish tones and a matte finish. The texture was soft but powdery, so the eyeshadow blended out well on the skin but required building in order to achieve true-to-pan color. It started to fade after eight hours of wear. MAC Ground Brown (P, $17.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Corduroy (P, $17.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Yule Be Surprised (LE, ) is more muted (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Dreamer #4 (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Natasha Denona Earth (102CM) (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). ColourPop In Bold (LE, $4.50) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Smashbox Java (P, ) is darker (90% similar). Anastasia Violeta (LE, $12.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Weirdly Wonderful is described as a “royal blue with light blue pearl [with a Veluxe finish].” It’s a bold, bright, medium-dark blue with fine, blue sparkle. The texture is really dense, almost like a very packed-in cream product, and it had good pigmentation but the texture made blending harder. The edges always looked a little dry and jagged unless paired with something softer and more powdery to help blend it out. It stained the lid as well, just as a heads up. On me, it lasted for eight hours before creasing slightly. NYX Kiss in Casablanca (P, $4.50) is less shimmery (95% similar). KVD Beauty Nile (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). I always wear some kind of eyeshadow primer so I’m definitely getting this palette!Christine I really love the eye look you created I’m going to try a similar version on myself?

Katherine T. Avatar

Wow, what a stunning eye look, very theatrical! Well, these pastels certainly look better than the ones in the Sephora Panetone palette. I think primer or cream base would give them a nice boost. It’s a shame Sushi Flower and the matte brown don’t look so great.

Nancy T Avatar

Your eye look just made me SQUEEEE!!!! ? (outside at a bus stop!)

I actually used to wear looks like this way back in the 80’s, and would get loads of compliments from fellow punk types, and weird stares from old ladies! I didn’t do “conventional” at all !?

I think I may able to do something like this using UD Spectrum with MAC Lucky Green and something yellow?

Claire L Avatar

Nice palette, I agree with Ray that I prefer this to the Gwen Stefani eye palette! I love the eye look you did, a great representation of the palette ?.

This looks like a random collection of colours that doesn’t seem to have any overall cohesion: a bit of pink & red, blue, acid green etc.
However, if you are after a palette that has lots of different colours in a small collection then this could be the go. Lovely eye look Christine.

I got into makeup somewhat past MAC’S prime. Nothing they’ve put out has seriously tempted me. But this looks amazing! I love pinks, I love Navy blue. This palette looks gorgeous.

The shades I really like in this palette are Floridazzle, Elegant Friend, and Weirdly Wonderful, but I have good dupes for Floridazzle and Weirdly Wonderful. Pink eyeshadows just don’t look very flattering on me. So this palette is a pass for me. Good thing, too, I didn’t expect to be purchasing so many palettes in January!
