Kat Von D Coven, Roxy, Ozzy Studded Kiss Crème Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Coven
Kat Von D Coven Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brighter, medium lavender with cool undertones and a cream finish. It had good color coverage but applied unevenly with patchiness particularly along the inner portion of the lips and some color pulling into my lip lines upon initial application. This shade would definitely need a lip liner or primer underneath to help it adhere more evenly and better across the lips. The consistency was lightly creamy and did not tug on the lips, though it was still a firmer lipstick formulation overall. This shade wore well for four and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating on me.

Per the brand, the new formula is supposed to be "the creamiest, most cushiony and unbelievably pigmented lipstick to ever cross your lips" that is "comfortable" to wear. I don't know if the brand has actually tried the plethora of other lipsticks on the market, because I can tell you that after swatching all 40 shades back-to-back, these are nowhere near "the creamiest" or "most cushiony" or even "unbelievably pigmented." They were, on average, much creamier than the original formula, but a fair number of shades were firm and dense enough that short strokes was better for application otherwise there was noticeable tugging. Some shades were pigmented, some shades were uneven or sheer. The mid-tone shades seemed to be the best overall in terms of application, pigmentation, and how they looked on the lips, whereas the shimmery shades were often sheerer, gritty, and drying while the deeper, vampy shades were lacking pigmentation and could apply streakily.
They seemed to have longer wear than most lipsticks (five to eight hours) but have been lightly to intensely drying, depending on the shade, and I found that wearing them back-to-back made the drying aspect more pronounced. They had a strong, sweet, burnt sugar kind of scent that was noticeable when initially applied, but I didn't detect during wear.
I did not review all shades in the original Studded Kiss formula as it wasn't feasible for me to purchase all of those at the time, and after trying what I did purchase, they weren't promising (often very dry, stiff, and painful to use with a drying formula). From what I can tell, some are better (see: LUV (Original) vs. LUV (New); Coven (Original) vs. Coven (New)), some are worse (see: Gold Blooded (Original) vs. Gold Blooded (New); Poe (Original) vs. Poe (New)). The shimmery shades seemed worse for the reformulation, and the glittery shades are like the grittiest sandpaper across one's lips; I felt like I was ripping my lips off when applying both Gold Blooded and Piaf with Poe not being far behind.

Roxy
Kat Von D Roxy Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a rich, deep purple with subtle, cool undertones and a cream finish. The color payoff was only semi-opaque, and it was a challenge to build it up as there was enough slip that it did not want to build up in places. The texture was lightly creamy, thin without being clingy, and did not pull on my lips as I applied it. This was another shade that needed a lip liner or primer underneath it in order to look good over time. It lasted for six hours, left a magenta stain behind, and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Ozzy
Kat Von D Ozzy Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium purple with warm, pink undertones and a cream finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that glided across the lips without tugging. The texture was more forgiving and easier to work with than several others in the range; if only they were all in this realm! The color applied evenly and stayed on well for five and a half hours with a non-drying feel over time.

Hey, at least Coven looks way better! The previous version was abysmal.
I just don’t get why making bullet lipsticks seems to be so difficult for Kat Von D…
Yay! I’m so happy Ozzy faired well as that was the only color I picked up from this release. It should be arriving today. I can’t wait to give it a whirl!
Ozzy is really pretty. And a fabulous grade. It reminds of Mac’s Heroine, though. So, I would most likely pass. I find that most dark purple shades, regardless of brand, do not perform well. And Ozzy Is a bit on the darker side. So, kudos to that.
Roxy and Ozzy are stunning! I don’t think I have a dupe for Ozzy, will put on wishlist
Roxy and Coven get big “nopes” from me. Sooo patchy for cream finish. Plus, I do have CP So Wavy, and it just clashes with my undertones.
Then there’s Ozzy. Oh my! Now that’s a great purple lipstick! I’m going to do a side-by-side with UD Cruz, which I own and love, just to make sure they’re not too close. ?
Your earrings are the cutest, Christine!!
This is a really good standard for purply lipsticks, although I wouldn’t wear them myself.
I find it interesting that the preliminary swatches for the new Colourpop lipsticks look better than these. I’ll wait for your review, but I’m definitely leaning towards Colourpop.
IKR?!!! I did bite and bought 1 in color Sanctuary. I really do like it but I’ll second Christine in saying there is some tug during application. I have a ton of minis and a few full sizes in the old formulation. My money is on Colour Pop and I probably won’t even wait on the review because the swatches tell me all I need to know.
Ozzy is nice!
