Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Moroccan Spice
Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.47 oz.) is a new, 16-pan palette that features an array of shimmers and mattes with pops of color and warmer neutrals. Per the brand, they are “richly-pigmented” and have a “rich, velvety-smooth” texture that “stays put without creasing.” At some point, the brand mentions “rich, velvety-smooth” and “buildable” in the same sentence, but they show opaque swatches and refer to high pigmentation at least twice in their spiel, along with the eyeshadow being long-wearing (without mention of the newly-released eyeshadow primer, except under “how to”).
I didn’t find that the formula was impressive; they used a much drier formula that resulted in sheerer coverage, dusty shades that tend to sheer out or look more faded/muted on the lid, particularly with the shimmer shades. I tried some of the shimmers with a dampened brush, which helped initial application, but they still lost vibrancy and shine. I also found that the matte shades were similar enough to each other that they tended to muddy when I worked with them–I think they needed to have more variety in depth.
They are better over primer, and they are definitely better over the brand’s own primer (which I haven’t tested thoroughly, so I can’t weigh in on that in-depth), but the brand’s primer has quite a bit of tackiness, which made the mattes harder to blend and get really diffused gradients from what I’ve tried over it thus far.

Mo'rockin Ice
Mo’rockin Ice is a light, lavender-tinted white with cool undertones and a sparkling finish. There was a subtle pink-to-violet shift, but it was just hard to see due to the stronger white base. The consistency was drier and did not apply as well to bare skin as I would have expected for this type of shade. It started to fade on me after I wore it for seven and a half hours on me.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have "rich, blendable color" that is available in "matte, shimmer, and glitter long-wear finishes." There were a few distinctive formulas used throughout the palettes in which the eyeshadows are housed, but generally, they were decent eyeshadows that were buildable, fairly blendable, and had decent wear, but I felt like most of the shimmers were thin, a little dusty, and had a tendency to look less shimmery once applied (almost a faded quality to them).
The matte formula was most consistent and had semi-opaque to opaque color coverage that went on fairly evenly and blended out without too much effort, though some deeper shades took longer to diffuse or went on patchily initially and had to be diffused and blended out to a more even application. The wear ranged from seven to eight hours on me before they showed signs of fading.
The shimmer formula was typically thin, dusty, and more prone to sheering out or looking somewhat "faded" and less shimmery after a few minutes on my lid. There were a few shades that seemed to have a denser, thicker formulation that offered greater intensity in its shimmer finish but had light fallout and looked thicker on the lid, so they did not layer as well with the other shades (which were thinner). The wear ranged from six to eight hours before fading.
The glitters had a gritty feel to them, as one might expect of a glitter-packed product, with decent spreadability. The wear ranged from seven to eight hours with light to moderate fallout.

Mirage
Mirage is a soft copper with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had a drier texture and more medium-to-buidlable coverage that was harder to work with as most of the shimmer came through but not much of the base color. This shade stayed on well for seven hours on me.

Ca$ablanca
Ca$ablanca is a golden copper with a stronger, copper base with lighter gold and flecks of green-gold sparkles throughout. It had sheer coverage due to the drier, more loosely-pressed texture that just did not want to adhere to well to my skin. I tried with my typical primer (Smashbox 24HR), and it was marginally improved. It did improve a bit more noticeably over the brand’s new eyeshadow primer but wasn’t a magical savior by any means. I packed on three or so layers to get visible impact on my lid. It lasted for seven hours on me before fading and had some fallout over time.

Sahara Stunna
Sahara Stunna is a light-medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a golden sheen. It had good pigmentation, but it was really hard to get this shade to show up as shiny as it initially appeared swatched–it just faded within a few minutes to a duller finish. The texture was soft, a touch dry, but it was blendable and easy enough to work with. On me, it lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

Desert Baked is a light-medium brown with warm, golden shimmer and a frosted sheen. The pigmentation was fantastic, while the texture was soft and velvety but a touch drier. Evil Genie
Evil Genie is a bright, medium blue with “warmer” undertones and a sparkling, frosted finish. It had good color coverage in a single layer, but it was hard to blend out due to the amount of silicone in it, which gave the eyeshadow a lot of slip on the lid and caused it to apply patchily. The texture was quite dense and needed a heavy-handed approach to get product onto a brush. It lasted nicely for seven and a half hours on me.

Fez Up
Fez Up is a muted, medium-dark plum with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. There was the smallest amount of micro-shimmer strewn throughout the shade, but practically speaking, I couldn’t detect shimmer in person. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, dusty texture that was a bit prone to sheering out, but I was able to eventually get higher coverage with two to three layers. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me.

Saffron
Saffron is a slightly muted, medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a mostly matte finish–I could detect faint shimmer in it but not once it was on my lid/at a normal distance. The texture was drier but blendable, and it wasn’t grainy as some red shades can feel. It wore nicely for eight hours on me.

Souq It 2 Me
Souq It 2 Me is a blackened teal with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the consistency was soft, smooth, and almost cream-like without being too dense (like Evil Genie). It applied evenly to bare skin, but it did seem to have the same issue I had with others shimmers in that it lost a lot of shine after a few minutes of sitting on my lid.

Henna Sea is a medium-dark taupe with neutral undertones and a matte finish. It had medium, buildable pigmentation with a drier, dustier texture that was more prone to sheering out on my lid and had slight fallout during application. Thank you for reviewing this, sweet Christine. I was never going to get it because those colours don’t look nice on me, but I was still very curious about how hey would perform.
My pleasure, Jessica!
Because I have the brand new considerably better UD Born To Run palette in addition to my seeing a few well respected, honest YT’ers struggle with some shades in this palette, I lost all interest in it. The few shades I may not have dupes for are ones that I believe will get covered at some point. This is no Galaxy Palette.
Born to Run is such a good palette!
I’m curious about which YouTubers you trust. I’m always looking for honest influencers.
Well this just became an easy pass. ??
I had higher hopes 🙁
Disappointing, not that I intended to get it. IDK why a Fenty version (Ca$ablanca) should be an F, whereas the Sephora version, (Lou,) is an A. Seriously? iI’s the same company (though maybe only Kendo, not nec mfg.). Clearly, there are issues here. Cutting corners, bec everyone will be wild about Rihanna? and Fenty took the world by storm? Although there are many obvious combos/looks, I find this somewhat disjointed. And the quality just isn’t there, when it could (and should) be. This gets a rousing anti-haul from me.
Well, this is a really confused palette, with some very basic shades done poorly and a few stellar offerings.
It was disappointing as it could have been a wonderful palette, offering lots of good choices for eye looks.
My favourite shades were Nuts and Dates and Marrekush. Lovely eye looks Christine.
I love how honest your reviews are! Never change and keep up the great work! I don’t know how you do it, but I know A LOT of us depend on your reviews ?
After buying the Galaxy Palette and never using it, it’s a hard pass from me. I love Ferty lip products but everything else kind of leaves me cold.
Money saved. I had hopes especially for Quicksand and some of the other reds/plums/pinks; if the whole palette was exceptional I may have gone for it based on these shades that attract me.
I already knew it was a pass. It’s now a super easy pass. I mentioned that on your Twitter post but did enjoy the review. I have the Galaxy palette. I bought it on sale because as much of a glitter fan I am, I didn’t find it to be worth $59. Without realizing it, I bought the Hush knockoff and found it to be better than Galaxy in many cases. Plus it has an extra color. Lol!
I really like shisha smoke but apparently it’s a tough one to get right. None of the dupes performed well either.
A bit relieved actually. I’ve been ridiculously susceptible to eye shadow palettes lately. I must have 10 palettes sitting in my regular wear section which are all strong loves. It certainly makes this one an easy pass.
I got a Fenty felt tip eyeliner mini promo with my latest big S haul and I’m impressed and do not typically like the format (mature hooded eyes with texture). I will be buying a full size.
Wow I’ve had such a different experience with this palette. While it’s not on like, Urban Decay Naked level as far as quality, I did find them buildable and didn’t have a problem with muddiness or blending. The glitter/metallics perform the best for me and I’m able to use every single color in the palette. I do however think they’re not very long lasting and definitely need primer!
Well this is kind of disappointing! Not that it’s terrible but a few of the shades I was looking forward too didn’t perform like I was hoping they would. Looks like a pass to me! Thanks for the review!
I’m in the minority, I loved this palette and use it every day. No issues with blending or anything. I like it more than urban decay * runs and hides*
