Holo'daze

Fenty Beauty Holo’daze Snap Shadows Mix & Match Eyeshadow Palette ($25.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that includes three more metallic eyeshadows and three matte eyeshadows. It’s an interesting color combination as the mattes are lighter than most of the shimmers, and there are two very light mattes in the palette at that.

I could see this working more readily for someone who does one or two eyeshadow looks or as a companion palette. The quality was decent; the mattes were blendable, though powdery, while the shimmers were less consistent (two were good, one was below average).

Violet Vibez

Violet Vibez is a medium purple with warmer undertones and cooler, violet pearl. It had opaque color payoff that adhered well to bare skin and blended out without difficulty along the edges. The texture felt more emollient, was thin but had a denser feel in the pan itself. This shade stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

-

The formula is supposed to have "rich, blendable color" that is available in "matte, shimmer, and glitter long-wear finishes." There were a few distinctive formulas used throughout the palettes in which the eyeshadows are housed, but generally, they were decent eyeshadows that were buildable, fairly blendable, and had decent wear, but I felt like most of the shimmers were thin, a little dusty, and had a tendency to look less shimmery once applied (almost a faded quality to them).

The matte formula was most consistent and had semi-opaque to opaque color coverage that went on fairly evenly and blended out without too much effort, though some deeper shades took longer to diffuse or went on patchily initially and had to be diffused and blended out to a more even application. The wear ranged from seven to eight hours on me before they showed signs of fading.

The shimmer formula was typically thin, dusty, and more prone to sheering out or looking somewhat "faded" and less shimmery after a few minutes on my lid. There were a few shades that seemed to have a denser, thicker formulation that offered greater intensity in its shimmer finish but had light fallout and looked thicker on the lid, so they did not layer as well with the other shades (which were thinner). The wear ranged from six to eight hours before fading.

The glitters had a gritty feel to them, as one might expect of a glitter-packed product, with decent spreadability. The wear ranged from seven to eight hours with light to moderate fallout.

Royal Dazzle

Royal Dazzle is a darker, yellowed peach with flecks of pink and gold sparkle over a more metallic finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that applied decently with a brush but could have been easier to spread out and blend out. I’d recommend using a fingertip or a dampened brush for easier application and greater coverage. The texture was more emollient, almost cream-like, and densely-packed. It lasted well for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

Oh, and I found out this one has smaller, but still, plastic (PET) glitter.

Ingredients

Isostearyl Neopentanoate, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Dimethicone, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Butyl Acrylate/Hydroxypropyl Dimethicone Acrylate Copolymer, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Acrylates Copolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Talc, Sorbic Acid, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Tin Oxide, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Mica, Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140), Blue 1 Lake (Ci 42090), Ultramarines (Ci 77007), Manganese Violet (Ci 77742), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891).

NOTICE: All products categorized under "Glitter" contain Polyethylene Terephthalate, also known as plastic or PET glitter, and it is typically cosmetic grade glitter. Inclusion of this ingredient sometimes carries a warning (in the US) that the product is "not intended for use in the immediate eye area." This ingredient has not been approved for usage on the eyes per the FDA. In recent years, some brands are including this product in their eyeshadows without any warning or callout and effectively marketing them as eyeshadows or including a symbol of an "eye" which suggests eye usage. Via CosIng for EU, PET glitter is permitted without any restrictions or limitations. For an in-depth look at whether cosmetic grade glitter is safe, please view this post.

Blood Moon

Blood Moon is a deeper, red-copper with subtle, warm undertones and a smooth, pearly sheen. It had opaque color coverage with a moderately emollient, more dense-packed texture that translated as a thinner layer on the lid. I would recommend using a denser brush to pick up product and use more of a pushing motion than a swirling one. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which wore nicely for eight hours before fading.

Concrete Lavender

Concrete Lavender is a very light, pinky lavender with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had mostly opaque pigmentation that applied well to bare skin–with far less sheering out than I’d expect–and blended out well without becoming uneven. The texture was somewhat powdery, so I’d use a lighter hand or tap off excess prior to applying it to the eye area. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Honey Splash

Honey Splash is a medium-dark peach with strong, warm orange undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that could be built up to full coverage with a second layer. The eyeshadow had a soft, finely-milled feel but was somewhat powdery, so it sheered out a little too readily but was blendable and easy to work with otherwise. This shade lasted nicely for seven and a half hours before fading a bit.

The texture was soft, finely-milled, and lightly powdery in the pan, so there was a touch of fallout while blending it out on my skin. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Hmm – yes, well the palette does seem to have its colour story all over the place. The shimmer shades were lovely, apart from the apricot kind of shade. I wonder about Concrete Lavendar – it doesn’t seem to fit well with the Violet Vibez shade.
Anyway, you always do a palette justice with your eye looks Christine, and yours is lovely.

Mandy Avatar

While somewhat interesting, I’m not at all seeing the color story. It also doesn’t seem very user friendly for a wide range of skin tones given those super light colors. I’m just a medium skin tone and a couple of those mattes look too light for me.

Raven Avatar

I snagged this with the wine snap because I wanted to try fentys eyeshadows for myself and these two color stories spoke to me the most. I found it interesting that the shimmers in this were more wet/creamy emollient and had a slight dip in the center? It was very interesting. The shimmers really surprised me in this set and I really like it actually! Appreciate the review and ingredients details, as always and the eye look you did is great!
