ColourPop What the Fluff Lux Liquid Lipstick Duo Review & Swatches
What the Fluff
ColourPop What the Fluff Lux Liquid Lip Duo ($14.00 for 0.34 oz.) features two shades of plum–one more mid-tone and a bit warmer and one deeper and slightly cooler–in the brand’s newer liquid lipstick formula. Both shades were more pigmented than marketed, which may or may not be a deal-breaker, but they applied evenly and had decent longevity without being drying.

Southbound
Southbound is a muted, medium plum with subtle, warm undertones and a natural sheen. One layer of product yielded semi-opaque coverage, if not veering closer to full coverage, so you’d have to apply less than one-pull of product to actually get more of a medium, buildable look. The texture was lightweight, thin, and had moderate slip; it was a little wetter than other shades in the line-up, though the color still spread evenly across my lips with minimal product in my deeper lip lines (so it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance). It wore well for four and a half hours and felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$9.00/0.17 oz. - $52.94 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "medium buildable coverage" that has a "soft, diffused" effect. It's a more amped up take on their Blotted Lips concept or a slightly "washed out" take on their Ultra Matte/Ultra Satin range. The formula is much thinner--almost weightless--and spreads evenly with a single layer. I'd argue that most shades were often closer to semi-opaque rather than medium and buildable--and I used only what was on the doe-foot applicator to apply (without going back for more) for both top and bottom lips.
The consistency was airier, light, thin, and spreadable with a soft dry down that didn't feel like it was wholly locked in (like Ultra Mattes) but had significantly less transfer than a traditional lipstick (or even the Ulta Satins). They were not the most forgiving of lip texture or lip lines, but they were more flattering than most formulas I've tried that are similar in effect and coverage. Some shades had more of a matte finish shortly after application while others had subtle shine that wore down to a matte finish within an hour or less.
Longevity ran anywhere from three to six hours with some shades leaving subtle stains behind, and the formula felt mostly non-drying for me. It had a sweet, vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Hermosa
Hermosa is a deep, reddened plum with subtle, cool undertones and a soft sheen. It had buildable coverage from semi-opaque to opaque (two layers), but it seemed “too pigmented” relative to how it was marketed, so I’d recommend dabbing a little on the center of lips and using a fingertip to spread and diffuse the product out for a sheerer effect. The texture was lightweight, thin, and a little airy, which helped it spread evenly over my lips. There was a touch of product that sank into my deeper lip lines but wasn’t apparent from a normal viewing distance. It stayed on well for six hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Lovely duo of rich plum lip colors! Definitely fits my aesthetic. Might pick these 2 up once I’m moved into my new place! ?
What beautiful rich colors! I especially love Southbound. I don’t feel like four hours would be enough wear time for me if I’m going to go with a darker liquid lipstick. Did it wear off evenly that you can remember?
I’m not opposed to brands subcontracting to bugger brands…but they’re not even hiding the Kylie connection anymore are they? The lux liquid lipsticks and glosses use the exact same packaging as the Kylie pigmented glosses.
Gorgeous, rich berry shades. Very pretty.
