ColourPop Vixen Lippie Stix Set
ColourPop Vixen Lippie Stix Set ($30.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a limited edition set of six shades for the holidays. I liked the selection of shades, and I appreciate that there is a variety in the finishes (nice to see another shimmery shade from ColourPop!), but two of the six were stiffer and drier to use, which was disappointing.
Last Call is described as a “soft cool-toned mauve pink [with a Creme finish].” It’s a muted, light-medium pink with cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had good pigmentation that covered evenly with smooth color and a lightly creamy consistency that didn’t tug when applied. This shade lasted for four and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Friend Like Me (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Angel (P, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Fame (LE, $7.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Clueless (DC, $6.50) is darker, less glossy (90% similar). Maybelline Peach Buff (P, $7.99) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). MAC Crème Cup (PiP, $19.00) is cooler (90% similar). Burberry Fawn Rose (P, $34.00) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Littlestitious (P, $7.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Pink Cloud (DC, $37.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Julian (P, $36.00) is darker (90% similar). ColourPop Shimmy (LE, $6.50) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). ColourPop Bianca (DC, $6.50) is lighter, less glossy (85% similar). ColourPop Contempo (DC, $7.00) is darker (85% similar). ColourPop Dopey (P, $7.00) is darker, less glossy (90% similar). NARS Anna (P, $34.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Bite Beauty Sake (DC, $26.00) is darker (80% similar). MAC Personal Pick (LE, $19.00) is darker, less glossy (80% similar). MAC Long Legged & Fabulous (LE, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). Ruffle is described as a “mid-tone warm terracotta [with a Matte finish].” It’s a muted, medium-dark brown with warm, yellow-orange undertones and a satin finish. It was fully opaque on the lips, and the color covered evenly and smoothly without gathering into lip lines. The texture was creamy enough not to tug, but it didn’t slide around at all so the wear time was longer at five and a half hours. It felt a little drying after four hours. MAC Oh Honey (P, $20.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Persistence (P, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Pat McGrath LaBeija (DC, $40.00) is lighter (90% similar). NARS Het Loo (P, $25.00) is warmer (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty J'Adore (230) (PiP, $30.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Carnal (DC, $18.00) is darker, cooler, glossier (90% similar). Sephora Off the Grid (74) (LE, $8.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Speed Dial (PiP, $6.50) is cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Candy Floss (DC, $5.00) is cooler (85% similar). Shiseido Amber Afternoon (BR322) (DC, $28.00) is cooler (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Automatic (Right) (LE, ) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Anastasia #4 (Vol. 1) (PiP, ) is darker, more muted, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Wish (LE, $7.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). Hourglass I've Never (P, $34.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Anastasia Nude (P, $18.00) is lighter (85% similar). Shiseido Woodblock (212) (P, $26.00) is less shimmery, darker, more muted (85% similar). Anastasia Hudson (LE, $20.00) is cooler, less glossy (85% similar). Maybelline Raw Chocolate (P, $7.99) is darker, more muted, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Ink Blot (LE, $7.00) is cooler (85% similar). Huda Beauty Trendsetter (P, $20.00) is cooler (95% similar). Jingle is described as a “true blue red [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation, and the texture of this shade had more slip to it than the average matte in ColourPop’s range. It glided on easily, but I was still able to get really crisp lines straight from the tube. This shade lasted for six hours and left a stain behind. It was neither drying nor hydrating for me. MAC Charlotte (LE, $19.00) is darker, cooler (95% similar). MAC Stunner (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Reddy to Go (P, $20.00) is darker (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Goddess (202) (PiP, $30.00) is lighter (95% similar). Dior 999 Matte (999) (P, $35.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). NARS Deadly Catch (LE, $26.00) is glossier (95% similar). Hourglass Secretly (P, $34.00) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Silhouette (LE, $6.50) is less glossy (95% similar). Estee Lauder Decisive Poppy (P, $32.00) is darker, less glossy (95% similar). MAC Kinky (LE, $19.00) is brighter (95% similar). Lancome Rouge Vintage (178) (LE, $32.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Feels So Grand (P, $21.00) is darker, more muted, less glossy (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Ruby Rush (07) (P, $55.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC MAC Red (P, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Urban Decay Doubt (DC, $18.00) is lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Night Porter (P, $55.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). ColourPop Weekender (LE, $6.00) is cooler, less glossy (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. Night Owl is described as a “vivid cool-toned hot pink [with a Creme finish].” It’s a bright, medium fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. The texture is thicker and creamier, with a lot more slip, than the majority of ColourPop’s Lippie Stix. It had opaque coverage, but it can show “lines” at times as it is easy to overapply due to the soft consistency in the tube. The color wore well for six hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Buxom Exhibitionist (DC, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Melted Jelly Donut (P, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Crush (DC, $22.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Incorrigible (08) (LE, $55.00) is lighter, less pigmented (90% similar). Clinique Punch Pop (P, $19.50) is less shimmery, darker, less glossy (90% similar). Estee Lauder Dominant (P, $32.00) is darker (90% similar). Too Faced Melted Candy (P, $21.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Maybelline Fuchsia Flash (DC, $7.99) is cooler (90% similar). L'Oreal Laminated Fuchsia (P, $9.99) is darker, more muted (85% similar). Urban Decay Anarchy (DC, $22.00) is cooler (85% similar). Maybelline Carnation Cabernet (970) (LE, $7.49) is darker, more muted (85% similar). MAC Tsk Tsk! (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Imari (LE, $36.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
#54 is described as a “red wine burgundy with red and hot pink glitter [with a Pearlized finish].” It’s a medium-dark, berry-red with fuchsia and ruby red micro-sparkle. The texture had a noticeable grit to it when touched to the lips from the sparkly bits, and the consistency was noticeably drier and stiffer to work with, so it did tug on the lips. This shade lasted the longest, as it was still going strong after six hours, but it was drying. ColourPop Let's Play (LE, $7.00) is cooler (95% similar). Buxom Menace (DC, $21.00) is less shimmery, warmer, glossier (90% similar). Urban Decay Love Drunk (DC, $18.00) is darker (90% similar). Guerlain Orgueil (DC, $49.50) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Love Drunk (DC, $18.00) is darker (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Wes (DC, $36.00) is less shimmery, glossier (85% similar). ColourPop Surprise (LE, $6.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Alasdhair (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery, cooler, glossier (85% similar). MAC In Retrograde (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery, lighter, less glossy (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Didier (LE, $36.00) is cooler, glossier (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Plastics is described as a “deep red violet [with a Matte finish].” It’s a muted, medium-dark berry purple with cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. This was another shade that had a stiffer, drier texture in the tube, which made it harder to apply to the lips–it tugged and dragged, and the resulting coverage was uneven. The color itself was semi-sheer to semi-opaque. On me, the color lasted for five hours with some settling into lip lines, and it was drying overall. Dior Ultra Pulse (870) (P, $37.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Boogie (LE, $7.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). Smashbox Femme Fatale (P, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). Anastasia #10 (Vol. 1) (PiP, ) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Pat McGrath Deep Orchid (P, $38.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Maybelline Berry Bossy (DC, $7.49) is warmer (95% similar). NARS Warm Leatherette (P, $26.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). Milani I Am Powerful (P, $6.99) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay CSB (DC, $18.00) is darker (90% similar). Givenchy Heroic Pink (212) (LE, $36.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Persuasion (LE, $7.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). ColourPop Panda (P, $7.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). MAC P for Potent (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Anastasia Plumeria (P, $18.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Toung 'n' Chic (LE, $18.50) is warmer (95% similar). Fenty Beauty Flamingo Acid (P, $18.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Babes and Balls (LE, $19.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Rebel (P, $19.00) is warmer (85% similar). ColourPop Unravelled (LE, $10.00) is lighter (85% similar). Milani Embrace (LE, $8.99) is lighter, brighter, less glossy (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. These all look fab on you, Christine! I kind of want this set now!
Thank you, Amanda!
I love this set. It’s a shame that Plastics isn’t that great, but it looks like it can be worked with. I was expecting to hate Ruffle, but I actually think it’s very pretty. It’s not as yellow as I thought it would be.
They’re definitely all workable! Lip liner, primer, or maybe a little balm!
I have dupes for all of these, but the ‘value’ on the ColourPop sets always have me fighting the impulse to buy… ditto for the eyeshadow and eyeliner sets. Argh, they know how to get to me! I do not wear the lippie stix formula all that much, not one of my preferred actually, so I’m putting these on my definitely NO list. Good thing Plastics doesn’t look as wonderful as one would hope because that colour alone could make me cave.
Skipppp! If you don’t wear Lippie Stix often enough, this isn’t the set to cave on just ’cause, lol 😉
Christine I do believe you look amazing on any product you test/review. Yep ?
You’re too kind, Beatriz!
Love the eye makeup!!
Thanks, Arlene!
These CP sets drive me craaazy! As usual, I only like 2 of the 6 colors, 54 and Plastics. I can pull off Jingle, but Night Owl is way too bright of a pink, and the 2 light ones will make me look dead. 54 and Plastics got marked down for being dry and dragging, but I prefer some dryness, as I always add SPF 15 lip balm on top. And I like how they are dupes for Tom Ford lipsticks. Hmmm, I’ll have to think about this. If it goes on sale, I might cave
Here’s hoping some of the singles might be more interesting 🙂
I’ve been back and forth about getting this. I tend to not reach for the ones I have because of the design of the tube. Idk..I just prefer a regular bullet I guess. Ironically, I did decide to wear “I heart this” from last years mini set today and I love that one. Hmm..such hard choices.
Nothing wrong with that! I like the larger surface area of the traditional bullet as well!
Just my dumb luck: 2 shades I’m not crazy about score A’s, and 2 that I would have loved score poorly! LoL! There ARE some lovely dupes for the ones I’m loving, and thankfully I have some close ones already!
Just funny how this worked out, though. Makes for an easy (er) skip! ?
I’m glad the ones you like have some dupes!
When I hear “Vixen” I think dark, vampy, and gothy, so I was excited for a set that included a mix of ‘vixen-ish’ colors. But only half of these really qualify, and it seems like the vixenish colors are the worst performers so… pass.
Maybe next time!
I like #54 the best. It looks lovely on you and I really love your eye makeup. Just gorgeous.
A really good variety of shades for those who would wear all of these colours.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Jingle is lovely. I was hoping for more from 54!
Me too, Erin!
Ruffle is really pretty but I think I like the colors in the fall kit better. This is just meh for me. Thank goodness cause ColourPop has been killing me lately lol
Money saved!
My pockets are still trying to recover from all their previous collections. I’m really interested in seeing what they do for Black Friday.
I wish 54 and Ruffle were sold separately! I’m in love with them but the other colors aren’t my cup of tea. Ruffle is dupeable but 54 isn’t so much because of the glitter. Sigh. I can only lust over it from afar it looks like!
Maybe they’ll release them as singles if they are popular enough!
Ruffle caught my eye the moment you showed us the preview for these! Looks lovely.
Yay!
Ruffle, Night Owl, and Plastics stand out in this collection for me.
Nice! Ruffle surprised me — liked it a lot more than I expected.
What lovely colours in this set. They all suit you , Christine.
Thanks, Helene!
Holy cow … Night Owl hurts my eyes! It looks like it would glow in the dark!
Haha!
I hope you’ve got their LE highlighters as well. I’m dying to hear your opinion about them. 🙂
I did!
