ColourPop Shimmy Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick
ColourPop Shimmy Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick

ColourPop Shimmy Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “pale pastel baby pink.” It’s a lightly brightened, light-medium pink with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that went on fairly evenly with a slightly thicker consistency compared to other shades in the range. I thought it was going to appear “cracked,” but it seemed to smooth out nicely when I smiled. The color lasted for six hours, while the formula was just a bit drying after five hours of wear. Maybelline Peach Buff (P, $7.99) is darker, more muted, glossier (90% similar). Colour Pop Ace (LE, $6.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). NYX Pale Pink (P, $6.00) is darker, cooler, glossier (90% similar). Colour Pop Clueless (P, $6.50) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Too Faced Melted Peony (P, $21.00) is brighter, warmer (85% similar). Colour Pop Last Call (LE, $6.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). MAC Playing Koi (LE, $19.50) is lighter, glossier (85% similar). Too Faced Queen B (P, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). LORAC Girl Next Door (PiP, $17.00) is brighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC CrΓ¨me Cup (PiP, $19.50) is darker, glossier (85% similar). Maybelline Blushing Pout (P, $7.99) is darker, glossier (80% similar). Colour Pop Love Muffin (P, $7.00) is darker, glossier (80% similar). Colour Pop Midi (P, $6.50) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Colour Pop Littlestitious (P, $7.00) is lighter, more muted, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop Solow Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “neutral nude pink.” It’s a muted, medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. This was one of the least matte shades in the range, though it is still a matte finish to me. It had good pigmentation, but I noticed a very light veil of translucency with this shade. On me, the color wore for six and a half hours with even fading and was neither drying nor hydrating. Anastasia Petal (P, $18.00) is lighter, glossier (95% similar). MAC Scattered Petals (P, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Milani Lust (LE, $8.99) is darker (95% similar). NARS Vanessa (P, $34.00) is glossier (90% similar). Kat Von D Magick (DC, $21.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Urban Decay Naked (P, $18.00) is cooler (90% similar). Kat Von D Lovecraft (DC, $21.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Criminal (P, $18.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (90% similar). Givenchy Rose d'Exception (206) (LE, $36.00) is glossier (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Pink Kiss (P, $28.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). Giorgio Armani Blush (500) (P, $38.00) is glossier (85% similar). Colour Pop Love Bite (LE, $6.00) is less pigmented (95% similar). Dose of Colors A Mauve Story (LE, $18.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). NARS Anita (P, $34.00) is glossier (90% similar). Guerlain #05 (P, $33.00) is cooler (85% similar). Colour Pop Cami (PiP, $6.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Ciate Sydney (LE, $19.00) is darker, glossier (85% similar). Jouer Blush (P, $18.00) is cooler (85% similar). Too Faced Freshly Baked (LE, $21.00) is cooler (85% similar). Urban Decay Backtalk (DC, $22.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Formula Summary: ColourPop Ultra Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a long-wearing, pigmented lipstick that starts off glossy and dries down quickly to that super flat matte finish. They have minimal transfer with some of the lighter shades having almost none for the first few hours of wear, but any time you’ve had a meal, they lose that transfer-resistant quality to a noticeable degree. They tend to wear anywhere from six to ten hours with darker shades maintaining better color coverage and wear over a longer period of time. Some shades get a little drying about two-thirds to three-fourths through the wear, while a few shades have been fairly non-drying even many hours into wear. They fade away evenly with most color loss occurring from the center of the lips if eating a more oil-based meal but the majority of color survives a meal. Reapplication has been hit or miss and tends to depend on how well it wore away and how easily the shade applies normally, but reapplication tends to emphasize the lip’s natural texture significantly compared to initial application and gives lips a very wrinkled, dried-up look. I’ve layered gloss on top of some shades with moderate success, though it will obviously lose the matte finish and will transfer and I’ll get tiny flakes where the matte lip color has lifted by mixing with gloss but has been pretty minimal. The formula had no discernible taste or scent.

Do you have Shimmy? The swatch on Christine’s arm looks like it might be more of a mauve on me (very pale) even though it looks pastel on her lips. I can’t tell.

I got Solow yesterday. It’s a little brighter on me but still wearable. It applied pretty evenly with very few streaks (the other two I got, Trap and Midi were a little thinner and streakier for me). I was just trying it on so I removed it right away, can’t comment on its wear.

Actually I put Solow to the burger test tonight! Albeit a non greasy veggie burger πŸ™‚ . When I got home it looked virtually flawless, not even any fading along the inner rim. I didn’t find it drying, but overall I think I prefer KVD’s formula which I find more comfortable and weightless feeling.

Christine, why are there two photos of each shade? Are they time elapsed?
I can’t decide if I’m going to try some of Colourpop’s formula. They just look a little more drying than KVD’s formula does to me. Maybe if Boba ever comes back in stock I will try some! I think poor Boba is lost.:)

I know I’ve been saying I would *never* buy or wear a liquid matte, and then I read the review for Solow and I’m thinking this is the ONE I would try! It’s beautiful, non-drying, and doesn’t have that uber flat, overy dry look to it. Lovely!
Btw, both Solow and Shimmy look great on you, Christine! I wish I could still wear shades like Shimmy, but they only worked back when I was doing heavy duty hi-lights in my hair!

I have a few of ColouPop’s liquid lipsticks and Solow is my favorite. Most comfortable to wear and it’s almost a my lips but better color for me.

Hi Christine, how similar is, you think, ColourPop Solow to MAC Lovelorn and NYX Antwerp in terms of color? Since they’re all yellow-toned pink. I’m planning to buy Solow but I have both MAC Lovelorn and NYX Antwerp, and don’t wanna have too many lipsticks with similar color.
Thanks

Ok I’ve finally decided to order some of these babies, despite the fact that I’m not a big lover of liquid lipsticks, and Solow wasn’t in my cart but it is now!
I’m gonna add four of the sheer lippie stix and a few of the brand new shades of liquid lipstick (those blues, green and purple OMG! and of course the amazing PURPLE is now sold out. ugh.) Anyway I’m hoping you review the new products, can’t wait to see you rocking those fun colours! πŸ˜‰

Beautiful colours! I’ve been loving these matte liquid lipstick reviews from various brands, but I still don’t think it’s right for me as a balm/ultra-sheer balm-like lipstick type of person lol
