ColourPop Koala & Lychee Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatchew
ColourPop Koala Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick
ColourPop Koala Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “vibrant pastel lavender.” It is a brightened, lavender purple with cool undertones and a very matte finish. The consistency was a little thinner, and it had a tendency to streak while applied. It dried down very quickly, and there was noticeable flaking after four hours of wear until it was somewhat patchy at the six-hour mark. The formula was a little drying overall. Urban Decay Vanity Kills (DC, $18.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Lavender Jade (P, $19.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). ColourPop Brills (LE, $7.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). Rare Beauty Daring (P, $20.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Strutting Fabulous (LE, $19.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Urban Decay Shallow (DC, $18.00) is darker, glossier (85% similar). ColourPop Lemon Drop (LE, $6.50) is darker (85% similar). MAC Weekend 2 (LE, $19.00) is lighter, glossier (85% similar). MAC Kawaii Party (LE, $18.50) is warmer (85% similar). ColourPop Boa (P, $6.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). MAC Plum Princess (LE, $19.00) is darker, more muted, glossier (80% similar). Fenty Beauty One of the Boyz (P, $18.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
ColourPop Lychee Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “bright warm violet.” It’s a brightened, magenta purple with warm undertones and a flat, matte finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, but this is a shade that dried very quickly and tended to “crack” a bit once I smiled and emphasized my natural lip lines. The color wore for nearly eight hours all in all, though there was some uneven fading through the center. It started to feel drying after four hours of wear. KVD Beauty K-Dub (P, $20.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Bittersweet (DC, $22.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). Anastasia Madison (P, $20.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). MAC Viva Glam Ariana Grande 2 (LE, $19.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). Maybelline Vibrant Violet (P, $7.99) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Urban Decay Crank (P, $18.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Urban Decay Exhibition (DC, $18.00) is lighter (90% similar). Make Up For Ever Dashing Plum (214) (P, $23.00) is lighter, warmer, glossier (90% similar). KVD Beauty Susperia (P, $20.00) is lighter, more muted, cooler (95% similar). MAC Stylist's Tip (LE, $19.00) is glossier (90% similar). MAC Heroine (P, $19.00) is glossier (90% similar). (LE, $19.00) is darker, more muted, warmer (85% similar). Anastasia Vintage (P, $20.00) is darker (80% similar). Makeup Geek Grapevine (LE, $12.00) is darker, more muted, cooler (85% similar). Formula Summary: ColourPop Ultra Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a long-wearing, pigmented lipstick that starts off glossy and dries down quickly to that super flat matte finish. They have minimal transfer with some of the lighter shades having almost none for the first few hours of wear, but any time you’ve had a meal, they lose that transfer-resistant quality to a noticeable degree. They tend to wear anywhere from six to ten hours with darker shades maintaining better color coverage and wear over a longer period of time. Some shades get a little drying about two-thirds to three-fourths through the wear, while a few shades have been fairly non-drying even many hours into wear. They fade away evenly with most color loss occurring from the center of the lips if eating a more oil-based meal but the majority of color survives a meal. Reapplication has been hit or miss and tends to depend on how well it wore away and how easily the shade applies normally, but reapplication tends to emphasize the lip’s natural texture significantly compared to initial application and gives lips a very wrinkled, dried-up look. I’ve layered gloss on top of some shades with moderate success, though it will obviously lose the matte finish and will transfer and I’ll get tiny flakes where the matte lip color has lifted by mixing with gloss but has been pretty minimal. The formula had no discernible taste or scent.

I was eyeing Lychee but the formula is tricky, and the color is brighter than expected.
Some of the CPs go on really nicely, and others are challenging!
You know, I kind of wanna get myself a color like Koala, just to see my fiancé’s reaction when he sees me with it. I always wear safe lip colors (says the girl who’s posting a blue-lipped fotd tomorrow), so I’m curious to see how he’d react to a color that is so out there like Koala… >:-)
If you can wear blue, you can wear Koala!
I literally went “Wo-ahhhhh!” at the sight of the full-face photo! It’s SO BRIGHT!
And I looooove me some crazy looks, too. I love a blue lipstick with a warm blush.
Have you tried Matte Royal? I’m surprised by all the nice comments on the fotd so far, I wouldn’t have thought so many people were into blue lipstick :-O
Unfortunately I find it really difficult to navigate the new site on mobile (Safari) because the ads move and reposition themselves every time I scroll down, and then I inadvertently end up clicking on them.
Thanks for the feedback! Do you know what ad it was that you were seeing? There is a type of ad that will hold at the bottom of the screen for mobile, but this ad was showing in the previous design as well – it shouldn’t be bouncing, though. You should still be able to navigate/use Temptalia with it there.
I have been having the same issue on mobile too.
I really appreciate the reply 🙂 It’s the banner ad that you can see at the top and bottom of the page. Whereas in the old version (non-responsive) it remained in one place, now it bounces to reposition it to the top and bottom of the frame every time I scroll.
Do you know what the ad is for? I have only seen the ad that stays at the bottom, but I’m not seeing one float at the top and bottom – but ads are usually served based on interests/past browsing history. If you can take a screen shot and email to christine[at]temptalia.com, that would help so I can report it efficiently.
Hmm I want Lychee but I’m a little nervous about the cracking. I have dry lips and that could get a little rough
Maybe a little balm for prep!
Lychee looks beautiful! Too bad I’ve just graduated and I’m entering the real work world… it’s all brown/rose nudes and neutral eyes from here on out 🙁
Aww! Maybe the weekend? 😀
I love both colors, but every review I’ve read or watched picks these as being finicky. Still…they’re so pretty and bright, I may get them anyway.
At the price, at least it is easier to forgive!
I really love Koala! Planning on getting more back-ups. Thanks for the full review!
No prob, Liz!
Koala looks so dang kewl (says my 18-28 y.o. self, haha!)! It looks nice, fresh and young. Lychee is more my speed shade wise, but I do have one of CP’s matte Lippy Stix in Grind, looks near identical! I get lots of compliments whenever I wear it, so I guess purple likes me!
Purple is a great color to wear 😀
ooof. Lychee just made my list.
Yayyy!
Lychee is so pretty!
It is!
