Charlotte Tilbury Hel’s Bells Lipstick
Charlotte Tilbury Hel’s Bells Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deep berry with cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly. It had light slip, so it didn’t cling or feel uncomfortable on, but it thinner than most lipsticks. This shade is a Matte Revolution formula, though it wasn’t truly matte to me. The color lasted for five hours, left a stain behind, and was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Rebel (P, $19.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). MAC Toung 'n' Chic (LE, $18.50) is less glossy (95% similar). Maybelline Berry Bossy (DC, $7.49) is darker, cooler (95% similar). Bite Beauty Acai Smash (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Pat McGrath Wrecked (DC, $40.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Venom (DC, $18.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). Dior Ultra Pulse (870) (P, $37.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Pat McGrath Deep Orchid (P, $38.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). ColourPop Srsly (LE, $9.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Hourglass If I Could (P, $34.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). MAC Joie de Vivre (P, $23.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Givenchy Violine Retro (P, $37.00) is cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Galore (LE, $7.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Little Pretty (130) (DC, $30.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Tell Laura Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark orange-red with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff (not what I’d call buildable–you’d have to use just a pat and blend with fingertips for sheerer coverage!) that went on smoothly and evenly. This shade is in the Matte Revolution formula, and it had a more matte finish and felt a smidgen clingy, but this shade was denser and a little heavier than most of the Matte Revolution range. This shade wore well for four and a half hours and was neither just slightly hydrating. Tarte Mai Tai (P, $22.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Barbecue (LE, $19.00) is more muted (90% similar). NARS Heat Wave (P, $26.00) is darker (95% similar). Dior Forever Feminine (647) (P, $45.00) is darker (95% similar). Make Up For Ever M300 (DC, $22.00) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Bootie (P, $6.00) is lighter (95% similar). Dose of Colors Hot Fire (LE, $18.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Cristiano (P, $36.00) is lighter (95% similar). Chanel Ardente (48) (P, $45.00) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). Estee Lauder Chilean Sunset (LE, $45.00) is cooler (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Jagger (LE, $36.00) is lighter, glossier (95% similar). Revlon Feed the Flame (P, $12.39) is lighter (95% similar). Guerlain #44 (P, $33.00) is lighter, glossier (95% similar). Make Up For Ever C403 (DC, $22.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Style Shocked (P, $22.00) is lighter (90% similar). Bite Beauty Saffron Fire (LE, $26.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Lady Danger (P, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Chanel Entusiasta (164) (P, ) is glossier (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Wild Ginger (P, $55.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Scarlet Ibis (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Charlotte Tilbury Carina’s Love Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had medium, buildable coverage–in line with the Matte Revolution formula–that applied evenly and felt a little clingy due to the thinner consistency. The color lasted five hours and left a stain behind, but I found it a little drying after three hours. MAC Candy Cane (LE, $19.00) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Ruby Woo (Matte) (LE, $19.00) is glossier (95% similar). Anastasia Primary #3 (Vol. 1) (PiP, ) is more muted (95% similar). NYX Eden (P, $6.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty LA Woman (P, $60.00) is more muted (95% similar). Make Up For Ever Red Ink (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Red Carpet Red (P, $37.00) is warmer (95% similar). YSL Rouge Extravagant (01) (P, $39.00) is brighter (95% similar). Guerlain Ruby Red (880) (P, $36.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Chateau M (LE, $21.00) is more muted (95% similar). MAC Betty Boop Red (LE, $19.00) is glossier (95% similar). MAC Como La Flor (LE, $19.00) is glossier (95% similar). Bite Beauty #078 (P, $18.00) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop Hi Striker (P, $7.00) is brighter (95% similar). Urban Decay 714 (P, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). elf No Regrets (P, $9.00) is darker (95% similar). Make Up For Ever C405 (DC, $22.00) is glossier (95% similar). Pretty Vulgar Blood Flower (P, $24.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Juicy (LE, $20.00) is warmer (95% similar). ColourPop Season 10 (LE, $6.50) is warmer, glossier (95% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA OVERVIEW | Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) has two variations–the original, Kissing, and the matte, Matte Revolution, both of which are featured in the Hot Lips collection. The Kissing formula is supposed to be pigmented and luminous, while also being hydrating, while the Matte Revolution formula is designed to be matte, buildable, hydrating, and long-wearing in a matte finish. The Kissing range is creamier, light-medium in weight, comfortable and hydrating, and average wearing (three to five hours with most shades). The Matte Revolution formula feels velvety, thinner and somewhat clingy (I find that they can sometimes emphasize the texture of my lips or highlight imperfections), wear four to six hours, and are drying to lightly hydrating. Both formulas have a sweet, vanilla scent with no discernible taste.

Your eye look is veryverweeberrylicious! I love the kissing formula more than the matte revolution, but no surprise with my desert lips. The kissing formula holds really well on me even with a Starbucks venti flat white in hand.
Thank you, Wendy!
I like Hell’s Belles, but I was already eyeing UD Venom, it’s much cheaper and I like the glossier finish more, so will probably go for that. BTW, love the eye look you did. My MAC C’est Chic palette is coming tomorrow, can’t wait to play with it!
Venom is more moisturizing, too!
I wore Venom on Saturday. Love it!
All 3 look really nice! The one I was most interested in, Hel’s Bells, it would seem I’ve already have too many similar shades. Which is a shame, really, because I would love to buy it for its color AND name!
It is more dupable for sure!
I love Hel’s Bells but I already have UD After Dark so I’m covered!
Perfect 🙂
Oh my, they all look great on you AND they look so creamy and so pigmented. I haven’t tried CT yet but I am in love with the design as a whole. it’s on my list once I am off by self-put buying ban.
Good luck on your no buy!!
I like all of them, and what a surprise, I have dupes for them all as well. I have more tham one dupe for Hel’s Bells, I would still like to have that one, as this type of colour is my absolute favourite. Maybe if I win the lottery 🙂
Glad you have some dupes, Helene 🙂
These three look beautiful, but all I can pay attention to is that your skin looks DIVINE! Thinking I may need to go get a sample of that foundation…
Aw, thanks!
Christine your eye’s look gorgeous & especially pretty with Hel’s belles. Great combo.
Thank you, Maria!
Hel’s Bells really complements your gorgeous eye look and blush. You look beautiful! Super pretty for an event like a fall wedding.
Thank you so much, Pami!
Gorgeous colours that would suit a lot of complexions. I think I like Laura the best – the orange red is a favourite summer colour of mine.
What’s your favorite orange-red?
I have two – Simply Salma and Very Victoria. Love Simply Salma! I took a chance and ordered blind because I really wanted to try the modern matte formula. I really like the finish and its hydrating, not drying. I decided to try Very Victoria and I like it, but it definitely pulls more brown/nude on me which is fine. Most of the swatches pulled more pink from what I could find but the women had more yellow undertones compared to my pink. I’ll get use out of it, but would have enjoyed a slightly pink pull to the nude.
Happy to hear you’re enjoying both, Lea! 🙂
Very pretty colors. The bullet shape is really cool.
They are pretty ones!
These are all gorgeous and refined, but the eyes. Honestly, top notch. Off topic, but somebody please tell this old wretch, who are the celebrities being referenced? I keep hearing that old (1961, had to google) tearjerker ballad ?? Tell Laura I Love Her that we used to parody and certainly must be making the rounds at the worst karaoke dive bars in the heartland of Amurrikuh. I must have another association. Not a good song to take over your mind.
Charlotte Tilbury’s website goes through all of them with short quotes/bios, I think! 🙂
Oh my gosh I’m running across this much later than your post but boy oh boy do I remember that one!! My mom had the 45 and it was always in the stack, waiting to be dropped. A foreign language to most of the other readers I’m sure 🙂 She had me at 16 and I’m sure she was lonely looking back but WOW she LOVED her over dramatic sappy tearjerkers! Ok…I can one up Tell Laura I Love Her…Ready? Leader of the Pack! Lololololol I hope you know it because it will give you a laugh. If not I will happily find you a link (I’m actually giggling at the thought.) I’ll also investigoogle and try to find the source for the name. It’s the least I can do considering I exposed you to 2 songs that would SUUUUCKKKKK to have stuck in your brain…muwahahaha (my villain laugh) ?? Please forgive me!
Hel’s Bells or Venom?!?!?! I feel in some sense the cooler one will look better but the more moisturizing one will feel better… GAH! Also, Berry Bossy… hmmm.
Tough choice! If you want something glossier/moisturizing, Venom.
I think the original formula would suit me better, but these swatches really make me want to try a Charlotte Tilbury’s lipstick! Love your eye look! <3
Thank ya!
Wheeew! My wallet just dodged a missle! Not just a bullet! Haha I have LOTS of dupes! MAC Rebel, Fashion Revival, Scarlet Ibis and Ronnie Red! They look gorgeous on you, Christine!
Thank you, Chellie!
None of the shades from this new line are calling out to me. There’s just nothing unique enough or seemingly amazing enough to justify the purchase. I do have three of her matte revolution lipsticks and they’re nice but not spectacular.
They’re definitely not my fave matte formula!
What is Hel’s Bells like in comparison to Love Liberty and Glastonberry? Would be nice to see them swatched side by side!
You can pull up any two swatches using the “Compare Any Two” feature that is on every single review page 🙂
I was admiring Hell’s Bells, then realized that it’s just like Venom, which I confirmed with the dupes list. Explains why I like my Venom so much. Actually, of any recent makeup purchases, my two most-used are UD’s Venom and Jilted.
Haha! Venom has a great finish/sheen.
I just bought Hel’s Bells and can’t fathom how much darker it looks on me in real life. Isn’t it crazy how much skin tone/shade influences makeup!
