Jaclyn Hill Lipsticks | Dupes
This post features all of the dupes I would normally enter and share during the review process for Jaclyn Hill’s Lipsticks (all 20!), which launched earlier this month. I am not reviewing these at this time, and I will wait to see how the brand responds to customers (now and future), how they move forward (they’re supposed to change labs), and so forth, as I think the situation is still ongoing and it’s certainly possible more information comes to light (by the brand or a third-party) before making more permanent/final decisions.
A lil’ confused? If you managed to escape the online beauty community for the last couple of weeks, you might have missed the rollercoaster ride that was Jaclyn Cosmetics’ first launch (20 lipsticks) where customers were reporting issues from sweaty, soft/melting lipsticks to unknown fibers/hairs/lint pieces (and many things in-between that were minor to major, annoying to concerning). For closure (at this point, at least), you can watch Jaclyn Hill’s YouTube video addressing the many issues of the lipsticks here. I addressed the initial issues here and subsequent issues here.
If you have dupes to suggest, you can always submit your own!
This is epic. Thanks Christine!
Wow! So many of these have such a close dupe! Thank you for this 🙂
Well this is an excellent excuse to browse over an assortment of nudes and add to my birthday wishlist. Especially a more orange colored one. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this excellent compilation of dupes for all 20! Especially since so many were so very excited for JH’s first launch of lipsticks. Many may likely find as I did, that they already have close enough dupes for their favorite shades already. And if not, well then, there’s this comprehensive guide!
Thank you so much for these dupes Christine. I do notice that there are a lot of similar nudey shades happening here though. Some of the shades I like, Ambitiion for example, I already have a dupe, but I do love Badass.
Is it just me or are these colours really unattractive? So many seem yellow or milky based, and there are many that are quite similar. ??
Given how many brands have shades in the same families, they likely work for some, but like any color, it’s not going to work for every single person’s preferences.
I just LOVE this format for looking at dupes. It makes it so easy to compare to your stash and see the tiniest differences in shades all in one layout. Just marvelous. Brilliant!
Wow, thank you for doing this! I originally thought of purchasing Perfectionist before everything went down with JC, but I have MAC Modesty, so, money and hassle saved!
Thanks for doing all this work, Christine! I wasn’t tempted to buy any of these anyway, and then I read about all the problems and that made me doubly not tempted. And now I see I have dupes for every shade that might have held any interest for me!
It’s good to see I have dupes for any of the colours I do like here. I had no intention of buying them to start (cross border shopping I avoid as much as possible). I’d avoided all the JH drama for a while, then took a peek behind the curtain and wished I hadn’t.
Thank you so much for doing this! I really liked a few of the Jaclyn lipsticks and now I can get the dupes. Mom, Sophia and Badass are the ones that caught my eyes.
Bottom line: If you like a color, you can just go to MAC store and get good dupe for. 😀
Best part? You can actually try them on to see if these brownish – yellowish shades actually match you, since some might not be very complimentary to all complexions.
What coloring and other makeup does one need to have in order for a shade like Nude AF to look appealing? How does one do that lippie?
I was just watching a “Beauty with Emily Fox” YT review of MAC’s Strip Down set (which includes Leave Me Breathless, listed as a dupe for Nude AF). Emily, who looks beautiful in virtually any color lipstick, actually laughed when she put it on. She said she could only see herself using it as a mixing shade.
I’ve seen some YouTubers use a shade like that on top of another shade. They added it just to the center of their lips to lighten it. That created a halo effect that made their lips look slightly fuller.
After seeing swatches I was pretty sure nothing was going to be particularly unique and wasn’t planning on getting any but I can certainly appreciate the amount of time and effort you put into doing this, Christine. There are 3 shades that are more or less in my wheelhouse but I have dupes, if I was tempted. With the exception of Pat McGrath, I don’t think I have purchased lipsticks from an initial launch of a new formula. I tend to sort of like to let them work the kinks out first, sort of like buying a new model car the first year it appears!! Of course, that has come back to bite me a few times and most recently with the Lisa Eldridge lipstick launch. Needless to say, I kicking myself in the butt but I think she will bring them back and maybe expand the range at the same time. Thank you for the hard work.
It’s really great of you to still provide people with dupes, and so quickly, too.
