Zoeva Black to Earth Graphic Eyes Eyeliner
Zoeva Black to Earth Graphic Eyes Eyeliner

Zoeva Graphic Eyes Eyeliner ($7.50 for 0.04 oz.) is introducing six new shades, plus a limited edition collector’s box of all 16 shades (plus a pencil sharpener) on March 21st. I will be reviewing all 16 shades across three posts over the next week! 🙂 Here is part one…

Zoeva Black to Earth Graphic Eyes Eyeliner ($7.50 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep black with a satin sheen. It was incredibly pigmented with a really creamy, glide-on texture that was easy to apply as well as worked great for smudging as it took a little longer to dry. It didn’t, however, slide around while setting. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours before thinning on me. Maybelline Deep Onyx (P, $9.99) is less shimmery, cooler (95% similar). Natasha Denona Black (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, cooler, less glossy (95% similar). MAC Blacktrack (P, $16.00) is darker, less glossy (95% similar). Buxom Call Me (P, $17.00) is darker, less glossy (95% similar). Maybelline Metallic Nights (P, $9.99) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). MAC Graphblack (PiP, $17.00) is darker, less glossy (95% similar). Natasha Denona Black (P, $26.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). ColourPop Swerve (P, $7.00) is less glossy (95% similar). Too Faced Perfect Black (PiP, $18.00) is darker, less glossy (95% similar). MAC Point Black (P, $25.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). About Face Into the Void (P, $13.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Perversion (P, $22.00) is darker, less glossy (95% similar). MAC Squid (P, $17.00) is less glossy (95% similar). Sephora Clubbing Stilettos (02) (P, $11.00) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Perversion (P, $22.00) is darker, less glossy (95% similar). KVD Beauty Skully (P, $18.00) is less glossy (95% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Black (P, $18.00) is less shimmery, lighter, less glossy (95% similar). Sephora Black Lace (DC, $10.00) is darker, less glossy (95% similar). Sephora Black Lace (01) (P, $11.00) is less shimmery, cooler, less glossy (95% similar). MAC Black Brilliance (LE, $16.00) is darker, less glossy (95% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Zoeva It’s Never Over Graphic Eyes Eyeliner ($7.50 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark rose with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had mostly opaque coverage in a single stroke, and it was fully opaque after two layers. The texture was creamy and easy to apply to the lash line. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Zoeva Mute Graphic Eyes Eyeliner ($7.50 for 0.04 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark taupe with strong gray tones and a warmer undertone. It had good color payoff in one stroke, and the consistency was creamy enough to apply without tugging on the skin but still layered without lifting or moving the first layer of color. This shade wore for eight hours before fading. MAC Shoreline (P, $17.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Metropolis (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Smashbox Moody (P, $18.00) is darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Desperation (PiP, $22.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Slate (LE, $16.00) is darker (85% similar). ColourPop Timber (DC, $7.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Lancome Pluie (P, $23.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Make Up For Ever S50 Satiny Taupe (P, $21.00) is darker, warmer, less glossy (85% similar). Urban Decay Lure (P, $20.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Melt Cosmetics 125 Years (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, lighter, brighter (80% similar). NARS Haight-Ashbury (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (80% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty (Dove)affair (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (80% similar). Urban Decay Smoke (P, $22.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Zoeva Taupe Graphic Eyes Eyeliner ($7.50 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark taupe brown with cooler undertones and a pearly sheen. It had sheer coverage in one pass, while it was somewhat buildable, it was hard to get really opaque, even coverage out of it as the pencil seemed waxier and more prone to lifting the color at times. On me, it wore for eight hours. Sephora Welcome to My Loft (LE, $10.00) is darker (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Cherry on Taupe (P, $26.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Tiger's Eye (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Zoeva Nude Reflection Graphic Eyes Eyeliner ($7.50 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium, taupe brown with warm undertones and lighter taupe frosted shimmer. It had good pigmentation in one pass, and I was able to build it to opaque coverage with two layers. It was lightly creamy with good glide and even coverage when applied to the lower lash line. The color wore well for eight and a half hours. Marc Jacobs Beauty Pewter Please (110) (LE, $26.00) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). Urban Decay Mushroom (P, $22.00) is darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Underground (DC, $22.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). MAC It's Physical (DC, $16.00) is darker (90% similar). Chanel Perle de Lune (916) (LE, $34.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Grey Tide (P, $17.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Pistol (DC, $22.00) is less shimmery, warmer (95% similar). Chanel Revelation (897) (LE, $34.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Urban Decay Hustle (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). Fenty Beauty Moon Dunez (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (80% similar). Urban Decay Tiger's Eye (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Zoeva Regency Graphic Eyes Eyeliner ($7.50 for 0.04 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark purple with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque coverage in one pass, which was buildable to very nearly opaque coverage in two to three layers. The texture was lightly creamy with less slip than some of the other shades in the range (like Black to Earth). This shade wore for eight and a half hours before fading. However, worth noting is that I purchased this shade previously, and it was sheerer and more emollient. MAC Wakanda Proud (LE, $25.00) is less shimmery, warmer (95% similar). Urban Decay Psychedelic Sister (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). KVD Beauty Homie (PiP, $10.00) is cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Viper (P, $22.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Ho Ho (LE, $7.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Voodoo (PiP, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). KVD Beauty Roxy (P, $18.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). LA Girl Sequins (P, $4.49) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). NARS St. Marks Place (P, $24.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty (Grape)vine (P, $25.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). Make Up For Ever I90 Iridescent Pop Purple (P, $21.00) is warmer (85% similar). Urban Decay Vice (P, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). Urban Decay Ransom (LE, $22.00) is cooler (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

FORMULA OVERVIEW | Zoeva Graphic Eyes Eyeliner ($7.50 for 0.04 oz.) is supposed to be a smooth, pigmented, long-wearing, and waterproof eyeliner. Overall, when they’re good, they’re really good, and when they’re less good, they’re still long-wearing, just less pigmented (but often buildable). The texture is very creamy, so they glide effortlessly and never tug on the lash line. The line has some more interesting shades than the standard eyeliner range, which is always nice to see. The wear varies between seven and nine hours depending on the shade.

Yep, I snuck (surely proper past tense of sneek) a few of these suckers into my basket with recent Zoeva purchase. Nary one in part 1 though… kinda wishing I had grabbed Taupe even though single pass isn’t that impressive. It looks really pretty upon layering and definitely my kind of pencil. ‘It’s never over’ is super unique..wondering how that might fair against my complexion though.

Christine Avatar

It’s cool to see some more unique shades in an eyeliner range! I’d even go as far as to say that their range in general for eyeliners is more unique than not, even though they do have some staple shades. Why more brands don’t have taupe eyeliner…

krachael00 Avatar

lol I remember my third grade teacher hearing one of my classmates saying “snuck” instead of “sneaked” and we had a whole lesson about it 🙂 On the subject of proper past-tense, a friend of mine recently said, regarding sunglasses she owned but lost, “Yeah, they were so cool—they glew in the dark!” instead of “glowed” 😛

Thiel Avatar

(Probably not really) fun fact: snuck and sneaked are a transitivity pair- sneaked takes a direct object an snuck doesn’t. (i.e. it would be technically correct to say the eyeliner snuck into your basket or that you sneaked it in)
However, this distinction is no longer strictly delineated in most forms of English so it’s likely that in a few generations there won’t be a difference at all. Language change in action!
*language geek out*

I don’t know if they are (several have sparkle/glitter) – they’re dermatologist approved, but I don’t think it mentioned anything about the rim/waterline specifically. I only recall wearing one or two on the waterline, and they were okay by memory, but I’m not sure what the exact wear time was.

Marc Jacobs’ formula works the best for me on the waterline, and I also have good luck with MAC Black Black Chromagraphic Pencil (which I think you’d only be able to get online).

Mariella Avatar

I agree about the MJ liners – they are amazing during application and also on the waterline. I just don’t like the price – $31 Canadian for “just” a black liner. I might try the Sephora black one (whichever one is without the glitter…I’ll have to go into the store to see since it’s impossible to tell online and they STILL haven’t done anything to clarify the finishes/wear, despite the fact that so many people keep on asking).

You might want to check your ratings. The original for Regency, on the ‘see comparison swatches’ does not match today’s entry. You are so meticulous, that everyone is going to point this out! Love these, and it’s always good to amp up the Zoeva order list, to offset the shipping fees.

Christine Avatar

It’s going to be an average of the two ratings received (the first one I had reviewed was a D+) on the product’s individual page – on this and the original post. Well, it’s supposed to be, so I’ll have to my team double check they’re averaging tomorrow.

Maggie Avatar

I have been looking for a purple eyeliner and was going to put Regency on my wish list until I noticed the inconsistency mentioned on quality.

Christine, what is your favorite purple eyeliner?

Katherine T. Avatar

Oooh, that black (Black to Earth) looks super pigmented!! And even though I’m not sure I can pull it off without looking like I have rabbit eyes, I like Never Over because it’s a unique color. And of course, I love Regency, a purple even if the formula could be better.

Vanessa Avatar

It looks like a few of those are not up on the website yet 🙁 do you have an idea of when they’ll be up? I’ve been planning an order for a while now and want to add It’s Never Over!

Nancy T Avatar

Even though Taupe didn’t review all that well, I really love the actual color as it reminds me of the LE Sephora Contour Pencil in Welcome To My Loft. I missed out on that one.
And the rose shade is phenomenal, but I would rather have it in an eye-shadow instead. As a liner, I fear it would make me appear to have a bad case of conjunctivitis!

Pami Avatar

Nancy, I have Welcome to My Loft, and UD Ether – which I LOVE, and colorwise they are very similar except Ether has pretty sparkles in it.

Angelica Avatar

If I am using a liquid eyeliner, I wear a neutral eyeshadow and wing the liner. I have a creamy red eyeliner with shimmer that I like to smudge on the bottom lashes. I don’t think pink or red eyeliners make my eyes look irritated so I enjoy using them 🙂

ouineque Avatar

Ow! I was so excited when I saw these and I fell instantly in love with Mute. But here they come out in only 10 shades… And not Mute (nor Taupe! how can one ever decide that Dutch women do not want a taupe eyeliner… Incredible). I am speechless. And sad 🙁

ouineque Avatar

Ow! I thought they would have been announced already but I was wrong and I see them now on the German site! So happy now. Hahahaha! (It’s silly how I allow makeup to decide on my mood!)

Pami Avatar

Those are some nice and well performing shades!
Though It’s Never Over would look horrible on me, it’s great to see more unusual shades too. 🙂

Arpita Avatar

Wow… These are definitely on my list now… Waiting for the 16 shade set and your thoughts on all of them… Btw.. Do u think all these can be used as kohls too… What about the shimmery ones… Any irritation of eyes if used as a kohl??? Fact is i use more of kohls or on lower lashline… And u say these r real creamy ones which gets me totally excited???

Erin Avatar

I’m a fan of all the shades actually and the opacities. Taupe is a little light for me but might be good for barely there looks. I do love the sheen all of these seem to have. In this matte matte world a girl needs a little sheen to keep from looking flat!
