Troublemaker

Urban Decay Troublemaker Eyeshadow Palette ($48.00 for 0.90 oz.) is a new, limited eyeshadow palette with ten shades–mostly neutral–housed in a cardboard palette. The palette also comes with a travel-sized Troublemaker mascara (which isn’t featured/reviewed here). The center shade is a split-pan, hence the #1 and #2 you’ll find below. I liked the palette overall, though I wish the palette was slimmer.

Oh, and guess what went on sale today at Sephora for $24? This palette. Not late at all… perfect timing, eh?

Bailout

Bailout is a light-medium, peachy orange with warm undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer. The consistency was soft, a bit dusty in the pan, but it blended out nicely (without sheering out too readily!) and adhered evenly. It wore well for eight hours.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.05 oz. - $380.00 Per Ounce

The formula is typically described as "high-pigment" that "stays on your lids" and goes on "seamlessly." Their permanent range has a lot of fantastic shades in it, and many of them are pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. Some of their matte are real workhorse kind of shades with soft, smooth, silky, and blendable textures, while their shimmers and pearly shades are very rich in payoff and apply beautifully to the lid. They wear between seven and nine hours on me, depending on the shade and finish.

Riot

Riot is a deep, chocolaty bronze with soft, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The consistency was incredibly smooth, soft without being too powdery, and blendable on my skin. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer and wore well for eight and a half hours.

Relish

Relish is a deep red with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that applied fairly evenly and blended out without too much effort, but it could have been easier to work with. I noticed the texture was slightly grainy, which isn’t uncommon with red eyeshadow, but it was less noticeable in practice than putting my finger to the powder. It lasted for eight hours on me.

Knockout

Knockout is a dark brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. This shade had semi-opaque color payoff in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with two layers. Something about the shade selection is off-putting for me. Maybe it’s the stark white and black with all of the softer, warmer shades, plus the green and gray. I feel like I’d mostly be able to do looks with the warmer shades and the black/white, green, and gray would be neglected. It’s a strange looking palette to me, even though the quality isn’t terrible.

As SOON as I saw this headline and your eyelook, I thought to myself “this is really pretty, I bet it’ll be on sale in no time.” No time at all! I like this a lot, all colors I like to use, but I’m telling myself the #1 thing I don’t need any more of is eyeshadow.

Wow….$24. With Heavy Metal now $39, this points to a deep pulling away from rampant consumerism of recent years, it would seem. I’ve never seen UD put their holiday palettes on clearance so early before! Last year, it was before New Year’s day, but early December?

Anywho, I do really love how well this palette’s shades work together! Very nice quality, as well. But I feel like I’m a bit overwhelmed by the amount of palettes I already have, though.

I think the timing of this release was a bit off, as well. With the Naked Heat, Heavy Metals, and Distortion pretty much rolling out back to back, along with all the hype surrounding those three, it was pretty easy for this one to get lost in the fray. Also, of the four, this was definitely the most dupeable, especially for those who bought the aforementioned three, and/or have been with the brand for a while. While this is great for “newbies”, again, with the hustle of all the other brands pushing out Holiday palettes, the value on this one isn’t the best in terms of pricepoint and/or variety. Had this palette come out over the Summer, even before Naked Heat, I think sales would have been higher. I would have bought the palette for Relish alone, instead of just the single. I get that it’s supposed to promote the mascara, but it still could have done that as a sort of “preview” before the official release of the mascara. I really like this palette, and I could see getting a lot of looks/use from it, but unfortunately I just can’t afford it right now, even at the sale price…

I love UD so of course I purchased this shortly after it released, which was not long ago. But within weeks of release it’s on sale, like every other newly released palette lately. I’m getting really annoyed by this pattern but perhaps it’s signalling time for a change in my buying habits.

I don’t have this palette so I can’t comment on it, but wanted to add it’s also on sale at urbandecay.com for $30 – 30% off code of extra30 = $21. I think the extra 30% runs through 12.24. I just bought the ONS highlighter palette this morning for $16.80 ($24 – 30%). It’s also on sale at sephora right now for $19. (Heavy Metals palette is similarly on sale at both sites, too.)

Oh, look! Another palette with a red shade. And a black. Easy pass for me.

FYI, it’s on sale today (12/23) at Ulta if anyone is interested.

I really was pleasantly surprised by this palette. I think I bought it because I wanted something new and didn’t know what else to buy, but I ended up loving it. The only thing I don’t like is that split pan in the middle. I can’t keep the white clean. But all the colors lend themselves really well to grungy smoky eyes.

I wish I could buy this palette! For unknown reason this palette has never been released in the UK and I don’t know if it ever will! Those are such my kind of colours in one palette… so annoyed ?
