Urban Decay Chem Trail Moondust Eyeshadow
Urban Decay Chem Trail Moondust Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a light-medium, champagne gold with warm undertones and a lightly sparkly, metallic finish. It had finer sparkle and less of it than a lot of the Moondust eyeshadows, so it was easy to work with and had no visible fall out over time (tested for eight hours). The texture was smoother and easier to work with as well. Anastasia Metal (P, $12.00) is darker (95% similar). LORAC Cashmere (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Horizon Moondust Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a soft, medium-dark brown with warm, rosy undertones and chunky gold glitter and fine pink sparkle. It was almost a mauve-brown color, as you can see the strength of the pink tones and sparkle on top of the brown when applied damp. The texture was very chunky, so it was harder to work with dry, and even applied damp, it was best patted onto the lid and layered. I would advise using a glitter adhesive with this shade to get the most bang out of the shade. I had some fall out when I used it dry, and it only lasted for six hours before creasing. When I tried it damp, it was significantly more opaque and had noticeable fallout but it was less than dry application. MAC Deception (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Tectonic (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Prickly Pear (PiP, $6.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Dark Cloud Moondust Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a medium-dark gray with lighter silver and pale pink sparkle. It had semi-sheer coverage applied dry and mostly opaque coverage applied damp. The texture was noticeably glittery but went on fairly smoothly, and the flecks of sparkle were larger and flat enough that they seemed to adhere to bare skin (even when blended, they tended to disperse across the skin without dropping). I had minor fall out when I used it dry and almost no fall out when I used it damp. MAC Say It Isn't So (P, $18.00)(100% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Luxuriance (PiP, ) is lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Gamma Ray Moondust Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a medium-dark navy blue with cool undertones and a metallic sheen that had a light dusting of lighter bluish-teal sparkle. This shade was smoother and not quite as glittery as some shades, but it had a noticeable amount of sparkle nonetheless. Applied dry, it had semi-opaque coverage that lasted for eight hours with a minuscule amount of fallout, while damp application yielded opaque coverage and almost no fallout. ColourPop Lucid Dream (LE, $6.00) is darker (95% similar). Make Up For Ever D222 Night Blue (DC, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.05 oz.) is specifically designed to be over-the-top sparkly with “minimal fallout” and sheerer coverage dry, more “intense color payout” when applied wet. I like using flat, synthetic brushes (or fingertips, as the brand suggests) that have been slightly dampened by a spritz of just water. If you want extra-long hold, I would still recommend a glitter adhesive, but I get pretty good wear with little fall out without any primers or adhesive, as the formula has a smoother, almost wet consistency. They work better combined with other eyeshadows than using several at once, and they tend to look more impressive in person than in still photos. Some shades are better than others; the ones with stronger base colors even when applied dry tend to have the least fall out over time.

Love these names 😀 😀
Awesome! 🙂
I have Horizon and it’s gorgeous! A plummy brown, with gold, mauve, and pink sparkles. It’ll be great popped on top of purple or brown shadows, it adds complexity and sparkle, will be great when fall comes around. It’s also very hard to dupe, both due to the color and sparkles. Over regular primer, it had a lot of fallout. But over Too Face Glitter Glue, I was ok using both dry and damp. I then went for a brisk 35 min walk up and down hills, worked up a sweat, and it didn’t budge or fallout, so that was a good sign, since I have super oily lids. But since I had to take a shower, I took it off , so I wasn’t able to test for all day wear, but I can do so and report back. BTW, I also like all of the others, but have dupes for them already.
Do let us know how you like ’em when you have had a chance to try them for longer! 🙂
On its own, it’s kind of dry, and regular primer won’t do, as it resulted in a lot of fallout, so I can see why it only scored a C. But it works really well over Too Faced Glitter Glue. I was able to apply it both damp and dry over the glue, and it made a huge difference in smoothness, pigment, and longevity. It lasted at least 10 hrs with no creasing or fading on my oily lids, although there was a minor amount of fallout by the 5th hour, nothing serious, and I brushed most of it away with a Q tip. I can’t wait until fall to pair it with plum, rose, and brown shadows! I think it will also work well over the glitter glue and cream shadows.
Ooh! My top 3 on my *wishlist*!
Chem Trail is even better than I imagined it would be!!! Horizon and Dark Cloud I can see need a sticky base/ primer, though. But that’s alright with me! The color of both is certainly worth that little extra bit of work. ?
Yayyy! 🙂
I just… I love when you swatch sparkly things! Also, Horizon reminds me a lot of Colourpop So Quiche.
So Quiche is kind of in the same vein!
They are all so pretty, I’m loving Dark Cloud. I wish Horizon was a bit better.
Dark Cloud is cool!
Chem Trail is calling me…… But I already own Anastasia Metal which is gorgeous as well.
Metal is very similar, just without some of the glitter!
Dark Cloud is stunning!
It is!
That’s my favorite of these too Rachel!
Oy..I’m disappointed in Horizon which is a gorgeous colour. I have CP tinsel in stash which will have to do as a dupe. I have issues with fallout on UD eyeshadows in general. Something like this would no doubt end up collecting in the grooves under my eyes.
I think these are (in general) better than say, the glittery powder eyeshadows, at staying put, since it is a flatter and flecky glitter, but CP is definitely better at staying put.
These are all beautiful colours, but I actually like Chem Trail the best. Gorgeous eye look Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Horizon moondust is so super gorgeous. Its a statement shade and at the same time very wearable. Totally getting it. Christine, have you used a primer on the eyes before applying the eyeshadow in the picture above?
Love the trail of Gamma ray on your lower lash line. It looks more purple when worn right?
No, I didn’t use any primer!
Horizon puts me in mind of a brown version of Fireball – brown and pink instead of orange and pink. Maybe it’s the similar sparkles?
Sooo pleased the dark blue is good. Gonna get me that!!
Are you a big fan of the Moondust formula usually, El?
I am, yeah. It just works really well for me. I often reach for a Moondust shadow if I’m in a hurry, as I can swipe it onto the mobile lid with a fingertip and job done. Sort of like an amped-up version of what the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash eyeshadows are meant to do!
But, worth noting that I have normal-to-dry lids, and I always use a primer of some variety, usually tinted or “skin coloured” as my dark circles are genuinely 360 degrees, especially in the summer when hayfever season is in full swing.
For sure I want Dark Cloud because it’s so unique! I really thought there would be more ColourPop dupes for all these!
Dark Cloud is a fun one!
What’d you use for the pink eyeliner in your photo?
