Beached

Urban Decay Beached 8-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($34.00 for 0.32 oz.) contains six neutral-hued shades and two pops of blue. I liked the color scheme, though I found the actual shades and finishes more limiting than expected. I would have preferred if there had been a lighter, but quite metallic, shade instead of two mid-tone copper/bronze shades. The quality was good, and I think if you tend to like Urban Decay’s formula, you won’t find these lacking.

Salt

Salt is a soft yellow with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The eyeshadow had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin, but it was slightly powdery in the pan, so there was a touch of fallout if I wasn’t careful to tap away excess off my brush. This shade stayed on well for eight hours before it started to fade noticeably.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.05 oz. - $380.00 Per Ounce

The formula is typically described as "high-pigment" that "stays on your lids" and goes on "seamlessly." Their permanent range has a lot of fantastic shades in it, and many of them are pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. Some of their matte are real workhorse kind of shades with soft, smooth, silky, and blendable textures, while their shimmers and pearly shades are very rich in payoff and apply beautifully to the lid. They wear between seven and nine hours on me, depending on the shade and finish.

Blaze (Beached)

Blaze (Beached) is a soft peach with warm, yellow undertones and a subtle, iridescent pink sheen. It had good color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly on my lid. The texture was slightly drier to the touch with some looseness in the pan, but it didn’t seem to result in fallout during application. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably on me.

Heatwave

Heatwave is a rich copper with strong, orange undertones and a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer, which was opaque with two layers. The eyeshadow had a smooth, moderately dense texture with light creaminess that was easy to apply and blend out on my lid. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before it started to fade on me.

Daybreak (Beached)

Daybreak (Beached) is a faded, medium-dark copper with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque and definitely built to full coverage with a touch more layered on top. The texture was soft, velvety, though a little dry, and blended out well on my lid. It lasted for eight hours before fading on me.

16th St

16th St is a rich bronze with subtle, warm red undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had opaque pigmentation with a moderately dense texture but larger, looser sparkly bits that needed to be pressed and patted into the skin to go apply smoothly. This shade would work better applied with a dampened brush, which would minimize fallout and help it go on more smoothly with minimal effort. It wore well for eight hours with slight fallout.

Double Dip

Double Dip is a medium blue with neutral-to-warm undertones (as “warm” as a blue can be!) with a metallic sheen. The texture had more slip–felt like it had a fair amount of silicones in it–and applied better in pressing and pushing motions on the lid than with sweeping ones. It had good color payoff that was buildable, and it was opaque if applied with a dampened brush. This shade stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.

Plunge

Plunge is a smoky, bluish-teal with cool undertones and a metallic sheen. It was richly pigmented with a moderately dense, cream-like texture that wasn’t so dense that it was stiff to work with. The eyeshadow applied evenly to bare skin and blended out with minimal effort. It lasted for nine hours on me before fading.

Wedge

Wedge is a medium-dark brown with warm, rosy undertones and a metallic finish. The eyeshadow had fantastic pigmentation that applied well to bare skin with even, opaque coverage. It had a smooth, moderately texture that was easy to work with as it had slight creaminess (but not too much). The eyeshadow wore well for eight and a half hours before I noticed any fading.

Pretty much agree with Deborah, and this def is an expansion of the old EL and VS (remember they had m/u, all?) standard summer bronze/aqua palettes. Though their aquas were warmer, less blue, less intense. Hardly need the balance of the palette, but might check out the Fyrinnae dupe for plunge. At least UD seems back on track, after the Backtalk fiasco. And that’s a very good thing.

Stephanie Avatar

I’m glad it scored well. I bought this some weeks ago (prior to release) from a friendly SA and was impressed by my brush swatches. I haven’t actually used it in a look yet. Finally getting spring here.

P.A. Avatar

Reminds me of the estee lauder bronze goddess palette but it’s not as interesting to me. Not a huge fan of these overwhelmingly orange/bronze shimmery palettes.

AB Avatar

I want this — these are great colors on me, a good rating, am generally a fan of UD shadows (especially singles). But I have dupes or close enough for all but the blue shades. Decisions, decisions.

Mariella Avatar

I really, really like more than half the shades in this palette but is this the one that is exclusive to ULTA? If not and it is available at Sephora, I’m gonna grab this! Plunge and Wedge have my heart racing and I also love Double Dip, 16th Street and Heat Wave.

Mariella Avatar

DARN it! I wish UD (and other brands but especially UD seems to do this a lot) wouldn’t cut out Canada entirely with launches like this. Why not make it an ULTA exclusive in the US but still make it available at Sephora in Canada? That sound you hear is my teeth gnashing!

Stephanie Avatar

I bought it at Shoppers Drug Mart, if that helps you. They carry the whole collection, I believe. I purchased in store.

Mariella Avatar

SERIOUSLY??? I don’t think any of the Shoppers in my vicinity carry UD ….I do have one that has Guerlain and my “local” has many high end brands (Lancome, Stila, Origins, Smashbox) but not UD (and not Dior either). What province and city, if you don’t mind answering.

Stephanie Avatar

It was in Orillia Ontario. Not where I live, but within shopping distance. Beautyboutique.ca has the collection right now.

I’m so jealous you’re near one with all those lovely brands. It’s a treat when I visit my son to go to one with Chanel and Dior but not Guerlain.

Genevieve Avatar

I quite like this palette, but I do agree with you Christine that there are one or two too many copper/bronze shades – Heatwave, Daybreak and 16th Street look fairly similar. A really good gold would have been a better subsitute for one of these shades.
I think Plunge and Wedge are stunning and your eye look is beautiful.

Vasiliki Avatar

This honestly makes me think that people from UD have not been near a beach recently. Where is a green? Beaches have trees, and so so often the loveliest beaches have emerald green waters. Can we chill with UD using two blues every time for no reason?

Louise Avatar

I really love the look of this palette – very pretty – but I feel like I’d only get one type of look out of it if I’m honest.

Holly Miller Avatar

When I first saw this, I wasn’t interested. But then I found out it was packed with copper shades, and now I’m curious. I love copper shades on my eyes. I loved the old Lucky eyeliner (just not the glitter) and tried to find a glitter free dupe. I know I have a ton of warm brown colors already, but if these are the perfect coppers, I want it.

I have a several warm bronze-browns, but only UD Smog makes me do a double take every time I wear it because it makes my eyes look amazing. So if this palette contained the perfect color, I’d get it. I don’t care about the blue shades. I’d probably depot them and pop in Smog and a matte.

Nyxx Avatar

I really love this palette. These colors are right up my alley. I am pretty sure I have everything in this palette but seeing it all together makes my heart sing. Since I don’t “need” it I will wait until it goes on sale and then scoop it up.

Deanna Avatar

My thoughts exactly! It seems that limited edition Urban Decay palettes have lately gone from launch to the sale bin very quickly so I can wait.

Yvette Avatar

This is pretty but it reminds me of the Heat palette with a couple of blues thrown in, which I have so I’m covered. Since seeing this on UD’s instagram I’ve been using the blues from UD’s Spectrum palette a lot more.

B Avatar

So much wasted space in the packaging. It started with the Backtalk palette I feel. What happened to Urban Decay? They used to have pretty great packaging (Naked 2, Naked 3) and high quality products and ideas 🙁

Z Avatar

I like this style of palette UD does sometimes. Though this color scheme isn’t anything I personally would reach for, it’s a really well put together mix and it looks fantastic in the sea of warm orange and basic brown palettes.
