Tom Ford Winter 2018 Soleil Eye & Cheek Palette Review & Swatches
Winter 2018
Tom Ford Beauty Winter 2018 Soleil Eye & Cheek Palette ($155.00 for 0.45 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette featuring four eyeshadows, one blush, and one highlighter. I find that these palettes are very hit or miss and tend to lack consistency within each respective release. I had higher hopes for this season’s iteration as the formula used throughout is more of the gel-powder variety. The eyeshadows were so-so, while the cheek products were much nicer.

Winter 2018 (Blush)
Winter 2018 (Blush) is a medium pink with strong, warm undertones and a natural matte finish. It had the type of finish that didn’t have overt shimmer, but it didn’t look flat on my skin when applied and blended out. There were barely-there gold flecks in the pan, but it didn’t seem to have much of a true sheen/shimmer on my cheeks that I could see. It had good pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer, but it had a denser texture that required a dense, rounded brush to pick up well. On my skin, the blush blended out easily and lasted for almost nine hours before showing signs of fading.

Winter 2018 #1
Winter 2018 #1 is a bright, medium gold with strong, warm orange undertones and a frosted, lightly sparkly finish. The texture was smooth to the touch, but it felt a little drier and had a tendency to sheer out when applied. It needed to be used with a dampened brush to get to full coverage without having to use three layers packed/pressed on. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Winter 2018 #2
Winter 2018 #2 is a light-medium, peachy-pink with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good color coverage applied dry, though it was deeper and less prone to sheering out when used with a dampened brush. The texture felt smooth and finely-milled, but it ended up being a little dusty when initially applied to my lid. The finish changed within five minutes, as the eyeshadow “melted” and looked more satiny on. This shade stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably. I know the brand can and has done better, so this palette fell short for me.

Winter 2018 #3
Winter 2018 #3 is a medium, bronzy brown with warm undertones and a golden sheen. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation applied dry, while applying with a dampened brush yielded opaque coverage that went on more smoothly. The eyeshadow had a smooth, denser feel to it, though it wasn’t stiff or difficult to pick up with a brush nor was it a challenge to blend out on my lid. It lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably on me.

Winter 2018 #4
Winter 2018 #4 is a deep, navy blue with strong, cool undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff in a single layer when applied with a dry brush. I was able to get slightly richer coverage using a dampened brush, but it was harder to diffuse and blend out when I did so, as it wasn’t the most blendable used dry to begin with. The texture felt a little drier to me and was more prone to dustiness in the pan. The color started to show signs of fading after seven and a half hours of wear.

Winter 2018 (Highlighter)
Winter 2018 (Highlighter) is a soft peach with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The highlighter was richly pigmented with a soft, smooth texture; it was more yielding compared to the other shades in the palette, yet not at all powdery. It applied evenly to my cheeks and diffused nicely along the edges with minimal effort. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Bummer. This palette looked like it would have been great for business travel, but not for that price with subpar reviews.
And, I have to admit, the bright pink lipstick you are testing in the closed-eye full face photo gave me a chuckle. It’s quite the attention grabber, isn’t it?
I just forgot to take the shot earlier in the day, unfortunately, but I was a few hours into the process of testing the brighter pink as I did not realize I forgot to take the shot in the beginning with the original lip until hours later when I was editing and getting to the last photos. So sorry!
Nothing to be sorry about. It’s an awesome and amusing testament to how hard you work.
The blushes/highlighters are the most stunning aspects of this offering from Tom Ford. The only really interesting eye shade is #4. Very unusual shade and quite pretty. Otherwise this is a tad disappointing for the price. Beautiful eye look Christine.
What is that fabulous pink lipstick please?! (I didn’t see it mentioned in the post, sorry if I’m just being blind!)

Ah I see it there now, thank you. Also, it looks amazing 😀
I love the blush and the color of eyeshadow #4.
This is $186 in Canada and quite honestly, for half that price or less, you could put together your own fabulous palette of dupes, many of better quality (like my beloved Fathoms Deep e/s!).
Never was a huge Maciac, but scored FD at CCO, and it IS fabulous. Some days I’m very glad that Tom chooses my non-preferred colors for these multi-palettes. They seem to have a history of being uneven, and really ought not be, esp for the top tier of EL products.
This dude has got to be kidding me. I mean, seriously now: $155 for *this*? I could see dropping that level of coinage on an A+ or possibly even an A grade palette of this type, but not when 3 out of 4 eyeshadows just seem weaker in performance as these are clearly shown to be. Easy PASS.
He’s released a few duds lately – very highly priced duds. I guess his feeling is that he’s “bullet proof” and I daresay that he is – women will still spend their hard (or easily) earned dollars on his products because they bear the Tom Ford name. And he will just keep on jacking up his prices.
When I first saw this palette while in Seattle, I wasn’t really inspired. I thought it was pretty blah. After I got home I started seeing it here and there on social media and started kind of coveting it but after seeing the shadows swatched, the price and the review, I am finding this an easy pass. Not saying you can’t get a great eye look out of it as you clearly did a beautiful look but it isn’t screaming, “Buy Me”, to me.
That would be a very pleasing Winter (or Spring!) face palette … for about $25
… $55 if the quality was there.
Absolutely! Exactly what you said!
Agree!
Fortunately I don’t care much for Tom Ford Cosmetics. They just came to my Nordstrom’s and many of his products are too glittery for me. The price points are too high for the quality.
I much prefer Pat McGrath as even though her eye products can be glittery as well, you can control this with application.
This palette doesn’t seem well balanced in tones. It appears as if it would be difficult to get a whole look with this.
Too much money to spend on a hit or miss product.
Sooo pretty this palette!
Grateful to you for reviewing these! I’ve only been following your site for a few months/six months now and it kinda blows my mind how brands like Colourpop can sometimes be so much better than brands like Tom Ford!
For me, more of the same TF underwhelm for redic pricing.
How frustrating that the performance of certain eyeshadows is poor, though I’m not loving the shade choices, to be honest. I really like the 3 TF Eye and Cheek palettes that I own and use them regularly.
For $155, this should be at least an A. Disappointing. Pat McGrath’s palettes and some of Natasha’s Denona’s palettes are less than that but their quality is superior to this Tom Ford palette. It’s just strange.
