Tom Ford David, Demsey, Jake, Hiro, Eric Lips & Boys Lip Colors
Tom Ford David Lip Color ($35.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a light-medium, peachy gold with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It was more semi-sheer to semi-opaque with a lot of shimmer, though I didn’t feel the shimmer in the texture, as there was enough slip that it glided on unnoticeably. It could have applied more evenly. It was neither drying nor hydrating during the three and a half hours it lasted. I think this shade works better layered over lipstick or liner or paired with gloss.

FORMULA OVERVIEW | Tom Ford Lips & Boys Lip Colors ($35.00 for 0.07 oz.) are “clutch-sized” lipsticks; it uses the same formula as the full-sized Lip Colors (which retail for $52 for 0.10 oz.), but the packaging feels the same, just smaller. Tom Ford’s lipstick formula is supposed to be hydrating, pigmented, and have a more luminous finish (there is also a specifically Matte formula available that is much flatter in finish). This year’s launch of Lips & Boys features 25 new shades that are part of the new “metallic” finish, and then the return of 25 shades from last year. In general, the formula is semi-opaque to opaque with a lightly creamy consistency that doesn’t slide around a lot but doesn’t cling to the lips. I get anywhere from three to six hours of wear out of them, and most shades are lightly hydrating over time. The formula is vanilla-scented with no discernible taste.

David looks like the color I would want to wear when I wasn’t wearing a lot of makeup or you are right Christine layered over another lipstick. It looks like a beautiful color.
It’s definitely a better shade for layering!
Mac lipsticks on steroids and price.
I notice a difference in texture/feel personally!
phew! A whole grouping I’m not interested in..
Your wallet must be very THANKFUL!
Christine, i own some of the Tom Ford Lips&Boys and they have been fine (i think, i have so much makeup i don’t know where they are lol) but a lot of others (on MUA) feel these lipsticks go rancid much faster than almost any other brand. Is that your experience?
I haven’t noticed any of my TF lipsticks going rancid!
Jake looks good! I still prefer a creamier finish, but still, for this particular shade I don’t mind the shimmer.
Yay!
Is it wrong of me to want Hiro because of the name. Love the shade though.
Haha! I give props to TF for at least selecting names that are both common as well as unusual.
Happy Thanksgiving, Christine! Thank you for all you do for the beauty community. I think you are one of the hardest working bloggers out there. And even though I don’t always agree with your grades, (I love dior eyeshadows, dangit, hahaha), I still appreciate your systematic and consistent method of reviewing products.
As for these lipsticks, Hiro and Eric may be coming to live with me. They are so beautiful and interesting to me. Although I swore I would never buy Tom Ford lipstick ever again after the 3 I bought in January have gone bad and smell like spoiled crayons. Basically $150 down the drain.
Aw, thank you so much, Helen!! 🙂
I’m not into frosted lipsticks, but these look gorgeous swatched!
Demsey in particular looks great on you!
Thank you, A!
Hiro and Eric! Swoon! Not colors I can wear, though maybe Eric… I just love the finishes. I like frosty lipsticks when they are done right and these are just perfect! They make the lips look so lush and plump without looking fake. If Tom Ford was here, I’d high five him.
I bet you could get away with Jake or Eric!
David looks like a topper shade to me. I really like Hiro and Eric.
I agree – David seems better for layering than alone.
Eric is gorgeous!
It is!
Soooo, I do still love Hiro! This *may* possibly become my first toe into the pool of TF lux! Something about the gold shimmer that looks ultra glowy, and yet refined instead of glittery, just speaks to me. It reminds me of lava, not kidding!
It’s a very pretty combo of brightness + shimmer!
So sad I can’t afford it right now, Hiro is gorgeous!!
They’re supposed to be permanent, so maybe you can grab it later!
I thought I wouldn’t like these when I saw the photo of the lipsticks. The swatches and seeing them on your lips have changed my mind, and now I want all of them. It’s probably the interesting effects from the lovely shimmer in them.
Wow! Talk about a change of heart 😉
I know. Just shows that first impressions aren’t always right.
That’s what I like about them too!
I l o v e the new metallic finish!
Which ones are your favorites so far?
I like all of the above except the first – David? I always hesitate because I don’t like sheer lipsticks. Some of these don’t appear as sheer as others!
It’s kind of fitting that ‘David’ (the one I don’t care for) is the name of my ex. 😀
OMG, Hiro is stunning!! Hope I can pull it off
I bet you can!
Beautiful colours! I want them all! Shame they’re so expensive.
Does Eric lean slightly orange? It looks that way in the photos.
Yes! It’s like a coppery tone overall – mix of red and copper. I think it leans rosier/redder overall but you can see the warmth.
I got Eric for Christmas and it’s my first Tom Ford lipstick. I love the finish sooo much. I do feel some grit when applying, but none on my lips. It’s quickly becoming my favorite lipstick! Definitely going to have to add a few more to my collection!
I’m so glad you love it, Patricia!
