Sephora x Disney | Minnie-ature Cream Lip Stain Set
Sephora x Disney | Minnie-ature Cream Lip Stain Set ($25.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) includes five, miniature-sized Cream Lip Stains. The formula is supposed to be “long-lasting” with “high-coverage.” It is a liquid lipstick that goes on looking wet and lightly glossy but dries down to a matte finish. The consistency was a little watery and thin, and I had issues with the color streaking when applying, but a lot of it seemed to self-level as the product dried down. They lasted between four and seven hours, while the formula was lightly drying. There is a strong, sweet, fruity scent that lingered for an hour after drying down. The names might not seem particularly Disney-inspired, and that’s because they aren’t–these shades are from the Cream Lip Stain range.
African Violet is a bright, medium-dark magenta purple with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff, and after drying down, it looked even and smooth in coverage. There was light “cracking” when I smiled, though. It lasted for six and a half hours on me and was lightly drying. Makeup Geek Moonwalk (LE, $12.00) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop Drive In (LE, $6.50) is darker (90% similar). Buxom Ultraviolet (P, $22.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC RiRi Boy (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Make Up For Ever M202 (DC, $22.00) is darker, less pigmented, cooler (85% similar). Anastasia Orchid (P, $18.00) is darker, more muted, warmer (85% similar). KVD Beauty L.U.V. (P, $20.00) is darker (90% similar). ColourPop Tickler (P, $6.00) is lighter, brighter (80% similar). ColourPop Fake Love (P, $10.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Mandarin Muse is a bright, medium orange with warm, red undertones and a mostly matte finish. This one seemed to reflect more light than a true matte would. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, which applied fairly well, though there were a couple of streaky areas that didn’t disappear or self-level when it dried down. On me, it wore well for six hours. MAC Quite the Standout (P, $21.00) is darker (95% similar). KVD Beauty Malice (P, $20.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Neon Orange (P, $19.00) is darker, brighter, glossier (90% similar). Always Red is a bold, medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a lightweight, easy-to-apply consistency that wasn’t too watery or too thick. It was very slightly drying towards the end of its six-hour wear time. MAC Charlotte (LE, $19.00) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Feels So Grand (P, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). Too Faced Lady Balls (P, $21.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Whipped Blush is a bold, bright, medium fuchsia pink with strong, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque coverage that didn’t apply evenly; I had noticeable streaking and unevenness even after it dried down. I “felt” this one applied more, as it seemed a little drier and clingy compared to the other shades. It had light “cracking” where the color emphasized lip lines if the lips widen (like smiling). It lasted for five hours and tended to fade more quickly from the center of the mouth. ColourPop Buds (LE, $6.50) is lighter (95% similar). Makeup Geek Bachelorette (P, $12.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). MAC Candy Yum Yum (P, $19.00) is glossier (90% similar). KVD Beauty Babe (LE, $21.00) is lighter, glossier (95% similar). Anastasia Party Pink (P, $20.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). ColourPop Fake Love (P, $10.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). KVD Beauty Backstage Bambi (P, $20.00) is darker, brighter (95% similar). KVD Beauty Backstage Bambi (P, $19.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Peach Tart is a light-medium peachy-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. This shade was the worst of the set; it was noticeably streaky and color pulled away near lip lines, so the color looked “cracked” as soon as I smiled. It lasted for four hours and tended to flake away. MAC Enchanted One (LE, $19.00)(95% similar). KVD Beauty Noble (P, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Knotty (LE, $6.50) is more muted (90% similar). Milani Adore (LE, $8.99) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Dior Tender Matte (340) (LE, $35.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). The set sure looks cute! But these colors and especially the finished aren’t for me.
Easy skip 🙂
I wish they sold these separately with the Minnie Mouse packaging, instead of in a set. The only color that would look good on me is Always Red
That would have been a great idea!
they’re all part of the regular permanent line.
nevermind. I see that the comment was that they wished they came separately in the special packaging. ?
The shades are sold in their Sephora permanent line though. I’m excited for the set to get mini’s of these shades.
Have you tried the regular line of their lip stains? How do they compare? I was thinking of picking this up but I would never wear Peach Tart.
Sorry, I haven’t.
I really like this formula the only shade out of this set I have is 02 Peach Tart and it looks the same for me texture and opacity wise. I have 4 other shades in their line (04, 05, 06, and 13) and they perform beautifully.
I really love the first three shades, and if the Peach one was better, it too. But not in this formula, I don’t think. Unless I find dupes within Ofra’s line. I’m probably most likely covered, shade wise as it is.
Hopefully you can find dupes in Ofra’s range!
Just got my Colourpop order with 4 of the Satin’s. Wondering whether (or not?) Panda is a close enough dupe for African Violet?
(p.s.: going to try MAC Kinda Sexy one more time to see if I can maybe do it some justice!)
For some reason I thought these were glosses initially! Good thing I waited for the review. Passing. They should have changed the names at least to keep it cutesy IMO.
Oh, glad I could show you what they really were! 🙂
I think they should’ve made these glosses, as glosses are more wearable than lip stains, which can be drying and unforgiving. And glosses appeal to a wider age range, from young to old. And Sephora has some good glosses in their line up. Too bad.
Between the matte finish (not to mention, the streaky, chalky appearance of the majority of the shades) and the “lightly drying,” these are officially off my want list. No way my already-dry lips could withstand these.
I think that is a good idea, Lauren! 🙁
This set is much better than I’d thought it would be.
The African Violet shade really complements your pretty plum eyeshadow look.
I like Mandarin Muse and Always Red, probably mostly because I have a problem wearing matte pinks and I can’t wear colours like the peachy one unless they are really shiny. As a set this is a no for me, if it had been satin or shinier I think I would have liked it quite a lot. I think I’m a bit over matte lips right now.
Always Red is pretty. I think it seems to have the best finish out of all of these!
Thank you for the review and swatches! I was curious about this set, but now I see it’s definitely not for me. Can’t do even a lightly drying formula, and most of the shades wouldn’t suit me. Nevertheless, the concept is very cute.
Beautiful! I will definitely pick this up when it becomes available. My Sephora had everything accept this. And it is not yet available on the Canadian site. Did anyone else have this issue?
That’s weird!
I love any kinds of Disney themed collection but this one is a little bit… boring? I wish more companies can do more interesting collabs like the MAC x Disney villains collection. That was amazing!
I was looking to pick this up because I thought it is a great deal for the money compared to their full-sized lip creams. BUT… Now I’m thinking I should just go to Colourpop and find 3-5 colors of their Satin or Matte lip creams instead. Similar price point, and I can pick my own colors!
I’ve never owned any of the three formulas I mentioned (Sephora Lip Cream or ANY of the Colourpop items). What direction would you recommend?
If you want super flat, matte, then maybe try Sephora? Easier to return if you do not like it. Ultra Satins aren’t totally matte or transfer-proof, but I do prefer them over both of the matte formulas.
