Bronze

Natasha Denona Bronze 15-Pan Small Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.67 oz.) is a new, seemingly-permanent warm-toned palette that includes five matte shades, one satin shade, and nine more metallic shades. The metallics felt slightly creamier and richer (in texture) compared to recent releases (though not as emollient as the original formula, which is a good thing with respect to longevity!), while the mattes have a more velvety, substantial texture that ensures greater color payoff with minimal fallout but still keeps the formula blendable.

From a quality standpoint, it’s one of the brand’s best palettes. While working with it, I felt like my looks tended to end up looking more similar than not; whenever I work with a larger palette, like this one, I try to showcase at least two different looks to see how versatile the color story is. I think that it is a deeper, darker color story that will be particularly lovely on medium and deeper skin tones. I found it paired well with the brand’s Metropolis palette to extend its color story and give it more contrast.

True Copper (305M)

True Copper (305M) is a medium-dark copper with moderate, warm orange undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The eyeshadow had rich color coverage in one layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out easily along the edges. The consistency felt smooth, dense, and lightly creamy without being too thick or too firmly-pressed into the pan. It stayed on nicely for nine hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

$29.00/0.08 oz. - $362.50 Per Ounce

The majority of the brand's eyeshadows are quite pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. The eyeshadows have improved over time, particularly with respect to longevity (without a primer). The original formula often creased on me within seven to eight hours, whereas the more current formula wears eight to nine hours with fading (instead of full-on creasing). The more matte finishes tend to be a bit more velvety, substantial, and less dry/powdery compared to prior iterations.

The metallic finish is often the creamiest, slightly denser in feel, but has excellent pigmentation, adhesion, and blendability. The sparkling shades can have some fallout, depending on how they're applied and how sparkly they are, so they sometimes work better with fingertips or a dampened brush; they can also run sheerer compared to other finishes.

Cream-Powders are the more unique formulation and tend to have firmer, almost stiff, consistencies and more semi-opaque, watercolor-esque coverage. They are longer-wearing, but they can take a few uses to learn how to use. This formula has also improved compared to when it first debuted--it is a bit more yielding now.

Suntan (306CM)

Suntan (306CM) is a medium brown with moderate, warm red undertones and a matte finish. The texture felt smooth, velvety, and had a touch of powderiness in the pan, but it wasn’t a problem during application as it yielded rich coverage in a single layer that wasn’t prone to fallout nor sheering out too easily. This shade wore well for nine hours before showing signs of fading.

Deep Dive (308CP)

Deep Dive (308CP) is a deep burgundy with warm undertones and a satin finish. It was a cream-powder finish, so it had a more emollient quality to it by touch, though it behaved more like a richer, creamier powder formula when applied to the lid. I’d recommend using a slightly denser, more dome-shaped brush (almost like an oversized pencil brush) to deposit color evenly for working in the crease or on the outer lid/v area. It had opaque color coverage that applied evenly and blended out well along the edges. The color stayed on nicely for 10 hours before fading visibly.

Rhodium (309DC)

Rhodium (309DC) is a medium-dark purple with strong, warm undertones and cooler, blue-to-violet shifting pearl. The consistency felt more firmly pressed into the pan with a thinness compared to other metallics in the palette, which felt creamier and richer to the touch. It had nearly opaque color coverage that could be built up to full coverage with a second layer. It wore well for nine hours before fading noticeably.

Magma (310CM)

Magma (310CM) is a deep, reddish-brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow yielded rich pigmentation that applied well to bare skin as the color went on evenly, wasn’t prone to sheering out too readily, and blended out with ease along the edge. The texture felt velvety, smooth, and was just a smidgen powdery in the pan but didn’t seem prone to fallout. This shade lasted nicely for nine hours before fading slightly.

High Degree (311M)

High Degree (311M) is a deep, reddish-copper with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of pink and gold pearl over a metallic sheen. It had a smoother, more reflective sheen compared to most shades in the palette, which were more sparkling and intensely metallic. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to my lid and blended out nicely along the edges. The texture was lightly creamy, dense but not overly firm, and easy to work with. It stayed on well for nine and a half hours before fading a bit.

True Bronze (314K)

True Bronze (314K) is a light-medium copper with strong, warm golden undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The color payoff was opaque in a single layer, which applied evenly to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges. The texture was creamy, dense without being heavy or thick, and easy to work with. It stayed on well for nine hours before fading a bit.

Gloaming (315DC)

Gloaming (315DC) is a deep, almost rusty coral with warm undertones and a contrasting, golden shimmer that gave it a metallic finish. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and dense without being overly firm in the pan or too thick. It applied well to bare skin and diffused with ease along the edges. This shade wore nicely for nine hours before showing signs of fading.

Palladium (316M)

Palladium (316M) is a bright, medium bronze with warmer, golden undertones and a metallic sheen. It was the “cooler” bronze in the palette, though not genuinely cool-toned! The texture felt smooth, lightly creamy, and dense to the touch but picked up well with a dry brush and adhered well to bare skin. It had rich color coverage that stayed on well for nine hours before fading visibly.

Bliss (317DC)

Bliss (317DC) is a brighter, medium-dark pink-coral base with warmer, greenish-gold shifting shimmer that gave it a metallic finish. It had good pigmentation in a single layer, though I felt like it needed to be built up or applied with a fingertip to achieve opaque coverage in one layer. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and dense without being too firmly-pressed or too thick in consistency. It wore lasted well for nine hours before creasing faintly.

Silk (318M)

Silk (318M) is a bright, light-medium copper with strong,w arm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The consistency was soft, more loosely-pressed in the pan compared to other metallics in the palette, so it applied best by pressing and patting it into place rather than sweeping (which yielded some fallout). It had opaque pigmentation that wore well for nine hours before fading noticeably.

Beach (319CM) is a medium-dark peach with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It applied a couple of shades darker than it appeared in the pan for reference. Wow. There’s nothing unique about these shades, but the rating and the combined color story makes me drool. Glad that it’s permanent – might be inclined to pick it up someday, when I don’t. in fact, own dupes for most of the shades.
In terms of depth, this with the mustard, warm tones feels like a split between the UD Naked Honey and the Melt Rust palettes – the tones aren’t as dark as in the Rust, but have a lot more depth and variety than Naked Honey. The reason that comparison stuck out to me was because both of those two have had my eye for a while… needless to say, this one’s taken their places on any wishlists. There’s something so satisfying about a color story like this – not that versatile, no, but warm tones are my first choice if neutrals are to be worn, and make my eyes pop beautifully.
I love the lack of unnecessarily light mattes in here – despite my pale skin tone, I’ve never used the extra step of transition shades that are basically identical to my skin in depth, and they just sit unused in palettes for me. I’d rather apply a shade like Beach with a lighter hand and a fluffy brush for a diffused look than waste space for a shade that is only there for the sake of blending out other shades – especially as my hooded eyes combined with the inherently small gap between my eye socket and brows really limit the available space for eyeshadow. I’m not wasting that for something that doesn’t enhance the look itself!

Mariella Avatar

There are a few colours in here that I really like but quite a few that are – as is so often the case – just warmer than I like. I also find that some of the shadows are really close to one another – close enough that when applied to the eye, there wouldn’t be much difference between, say, True Bronze and Silk, or Beach, Ridge and Sundown (those last 3 are shades I don’t like so having 3 so similar is just not a good idea for a palette for me).

Yvette Avatar

this is gorgeous!! But I can dupe most of these shades with UD Honey and UD Heat, some CP and SG singles thrown in. The only shade I couldn’t dupe is Rhodium but that’s ok because I’m sure I have something similar enough.
Lately I’ve been having a lot of fun copying Christine’s looks even though some of the shades I own aren’t listed as dupes but on the eye they look very similar.

Maya Avatar

I am not sure about this one but I think I will probably pick it up at some point in the next year when finances permit and when i can perhaps swatch it. The Natasha Denona formula is so beautiful and only refined over time to become more so – it is disappointing that this palette feels like every other one for a while (Metropolis, Sunset, and even some similarities to Star, as well as Mini Nude, Mini Sunset, and Mini Star). I think this is a beautiful palette for the every day person who just wants a similar look daily with a bit of variation and choice; I think a lot of people probably have and want their staple “signature look” whereas makeup aficionados are more likely to branch out. It’s a palette for a specific type of consumer though I wish she would release something cool toned or more in keeping with what her die hard fans are requesting. This has also made me muse on the fact and wonder what my signature look now is? Back in the day when I had one palette, it was simple and straightforward but now I don’t actually know any more because I enjoy and play around with so much makeup. I think my perfect look would be a dark brown eyeliner smoked out over the lash line and eye, and maybe paired with a medium-deep neutral brown shimmer (not gold, not copper – this truly is a *copper* palette it seems).

J Avatar

I love the colour story but I wish she would have mixed in a few more cooler tones like Deep Dive or Rhodium for more contrast/variety because I agree many fo the shades are too similar to each other.

Diana Avatar

I was on the fence about this eyeshadow palette but the two darker/cooler shades got me. The overall color scheme has been done before but since I don’t have some of the colors in my own personal collection, I decided to purchase this. Your review definitely solidified my decision, thank you! This will be my first Natasha Denona palette.

Jane Avatar

So far I only have four dupes (and from other ND palettes to boot), so if after I receive my Sephora sales order which includes Marc Jacobs Eye-conic Steel (etto), I may purchase this with my birthday coupon. The only thing that bothers me is I likely have have the browns in an old Morphe palette but am sure the colros are quite the same, but three colors in this palette are SOOOO lovely. Perhaps I’m wait for a Bronze mini??? Hmmmm???

Jane Avatar

Argghhhh, can’t decide! LOL! So waiting for PMG Labs Divine Rose II to come out in Sephora France. I’d rather use my B-day coupon for that then this. I’ll hold out till the end of August. 😉 (I hope! Ha!)

Jane Avatar

Update, I held out and Sephora France never got DVII by the time I needed to use the coupon, so Bronze it was! I’m a disappointed though due to what Christine said, lots of very similar colors and no light brow bone color. I’m having such a time with making a look I like. Will definitely need Christine’s “X looks” type posts for this palette. I think you have to use another palette or a few external colors to have less “orangey” looks.

Jane Avatar

Yes, and thanks! I just found your 20 looks with Bronze + another palette and the 10 looks alone posts, saved the color stories I like and will be having fun this week trying a few out! ;). Much appreciated Christine!

Gilad Avatar

Can I unbuy all the similar (but slightly less stellar) colors I already have ten times over? Then I can buy this one. If only I had known it was on it’s way…….

Prairie Avatar

I just got mine and played with it today. Great quality but definitely on the warm side. As a fair person I might end up pairing it with something more neutral and lighter when I don’t want a very warm dramatic look. I wish Natasha would come out with a more neutral palette. Even Biba seemed very warm/yellow on me (aside from the bottom row). As a neutral lover I would absolutely love to see something more neutral/cool from her.

Genevieve Avatar

I was really prepared to love this palette BUT – there are just too many shades that are so similar to each other and I don’t love the mattes and reddish shades. I have lots of dupes for the shades I do love – the gold and bronze from either my Pixi Beauty Reflex Light palette, Sultry and my City Color singles in Sandstorm and Cleo. I wish there were more pops of colour for contrast in this – an olive green or two would have given this one depth.
It’s a great quality palette – one of the better ones from ND and I think it would be a great purchase for those who don’t have any of these shades.

Missfuchsia Avatar

Wow, never did I think I would crave a bronze coloured pallet! I am a 100% pink-purple-lila addict and my faves are lila, sunrise, and love ( in that order ) but this is truly beautiful! Such rich colours! I have found 5-6 that I really really love, all shimery, I do not like mattes, at all. I think I will get this even though I certainly do not need it. I almost never wear eye makeup and when I do I almost always use only one shad, lol. I am a beauty junkie, galore.

Wednesday Avatar

I have already commented on my issues with the colour story (I like reddened warm neutrals, but not yellow) but darn it, the review results on this palette have me wanting it. I hope it is permanent so I can wait until a Big S sale or a Christmas sale similar to what ND did last year—I picked up Biba and Safari and a slew of 5 pans—then I would pick this up as well as Metropolis, which I do not have. I’m a huge fan of ND shadows and dare I say I like to use them more than PMG. PMG is so intense, diffusing those mattes takes time. I find a good ND palette kinder, more effortless.

Gina Avatar

I fell in love with this palette the second I opened it-I actually gasped!
It is my *perfect* palette. I love every shade, I love everything about it.
I have used it every day since Friday and I fall more and more in love with it each time I use it.
Yes, I have many, many shades like these, but none of them even compare to these.
I have a couple of other ND palettes(Sunset, Gold and some of the minis) but none of them compare to the Bronze palette. I have quite a few PMG palettes as well( large, 6 pan and quads) and they don’t hold a candle to this palette for me.
It’s just…amazing.
It’s *perfect* and I couldn’t be happier.
I WILL be buying a backup!

MichelleChefNYC Avatar

Wow, that rating though… I am always moved by this sort of color story, which is why I have dupes for almost every shade already in my collection, but based on the quality and the ease of use it is super tempting to add this to my collection. The looks you created with this were so pretty.

TropicalCowgirl Avatar

And it’s a go! I probably have most of these types of colors except for the fact it is so cohesive. I love that it doesn’t have too many mattes and it is a smaller one. I know it’s not for everyone but these are totally my jam. Some of her other shimmers are too light to get that bronzy eye for me but this is perfect for my coloring. My former boss/makeup lover felt the same way and ordered on the spot. I hope it lands before this weekend.

I ordered it as soon as it came on preorder, and I’m so glad I did; I’m having so much fun with this palette. Natasha Denona’s formulations are just so, so good (and they seem to keep improving): I’m gradually building up quite a large stash of her eyeshadows, and I find I’m using them pretty much exclusively now despite having a very (very) large collection of other shadows.

Christine, could you please recommend some of your favourite still-available Natasha Denona palettes for fair skintones? I love the formula but feel like ND and Pat McGrath palettes work better for darker skintones. Would love your recommendation! <3

I find that all of her five-pan mini palettes are more on the subtle side and work nicely with fair skin. The newer releases are particularly lovely in quality. Some of the larger five-pan palettes are nice too, but I think the mini palettes are great one-and-done color stories.

I’m in love with Bliss. It is peachy pink coppery golden duochrome goodness, and I want to smear it all over my body. Loving this palette. I love the small pan palette format from ND. Also, Ridge is my jam. And it’s so gorgeous with Bliss. Did I mention I want to wear it every day? Yeah, so I’m a little obsessed. Is the color story revolutionary? I mean, no. Are there some very similar shades in there? Sure. Do I care? Not a jot. I dig it. And this review is on point, as per ushj.

H Christine, is this Natasha Denona Bronze cpalette and the Glam palette physically smaller compared to the previous 15-pan palettes such as Biba? They contain a lot less product (almost half) and also cost less. I’m wondering if it’s just shallower pans or is it smaller on all dimensions?
