NARS Besame Mucho Killer Shine Lipstick

NARS Killer Shine Lipstick ($29.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a new, limited edition formula designed for the collection that’s supposed to have “daring color and dramatic luster.” The texture feels a little heavier, thicker, and creamier than their standard range of lipsticks, but it is glossier and thinner than the Audacious Lipstick formula.

NARS Besame Mucho Killer Shine Lipstick ($29.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “deep rose-beige.” It’s a light-medium peach subdued by warm beige with a natural sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage that went on fairly evenly while the texture was moderately creamy and glided on effortlessly. There is noticeable slip, so it looks very slightly streaky if you are looking close-up, but I didn’t find it noticeable from a normal viewing distance (e.g. not in a macro photo shot!). It lasted for three hours on me and was lightly hydrating. Urban Decay Naked 2 (DC, $22.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Cozy Up (LE, $19.00) is lighter, more muted (95% similar). Chanel Julia (404) (P, $37.00) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). MAC Freckletone (P, $19.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Bite Beauty Caramel (DC, $28.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Delectable (LE, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Posh Tone (P, $25.00) is darker (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Revolve Around Me (LE, $52.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Almost Bare (DC, $37.00) is darker, more pigmented (95% similar). Edward Bess Forbidden Flower (P, $32.00) is warmer (85% similar). Bite Beauty Whip (DC, $24.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Givenchy Beige Caraco (107) (P, $36.00) is lighter (85% similar). Guerlain Gracieuse (DC, $58.00) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). Urban Decay Vanished (DC, $18.00) is lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

NARS No Shame Killer Shine Lipstick ($29.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “red plum.” It’s a bright, medium-dark berry-red with cool, fuchsia undertones and a moderate shine. For such a simultaneously bright and dark shade, it actually applies extremely well: the color goes on smoothly, evenly, and doesn’t look streaky. It’s semi-opaque (you can see my lip freckle peeking through still) and isn’t too heavy to wear. The consistency is lightly creamy with some slip, but I didn’t have feathering when I wore it for five hours; if you’re more prone to feathering, you may want to use a lip liner as the amount of slip could result in feathering. It was lightly moisturizing as well. Urban Decay Venom (DC, $22.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). YSL Forbidden Burgundy (12) (DC, $34.00) is lighter (95% similar). Inglot #293 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Bite Beauty Sugared Maple (LE, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Cote d'Amour (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Giorgio Armani Drama Berry (510) (P, $38.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (DC, $30.00) is lighter (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Cabaret (146) (DC, $30.00) is lighter, more muted (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Brocade (DC, $37.00) is cooler (90% similar). Burberry Bright Plum (15) (P, $30.00) is darker, less glossy (90% similar). Bite Beauty Aubergine (DC, $24.00) is lighter (90% similar). L'Oreal Glassy Garnet (P, $9.99) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Estee Lauder Insolent Plum (P, $32.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Rebel (P, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Didier (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Estee Lauder Thrilling (P, $32.00) is lighter, warmer, less glossy (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Jack (2016) (P, $36.00) is cooler (85% similar). Guerlain #699 (P, $33.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Heaux (Amplified) (LE, $19.00) is warmer, less glossy (90% similar). Guerlain #80 (P, $33.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. NARS Redemption Killer Shine Lipstick ($29.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “metallic pink champagne.” It’s a light-medium, golden bronze with warm undertones and a fine, frosted shimmer. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque, buildable coverage with a reflective sheen that wasn’t too dry or too slippery, so it applied well and looked even. I really liked how there was noticeable amount of coverage, but you could use less for layering as well. The color lasted for three hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Tom Ford Beauty Lisa (LE, $36.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Amber (LE, $36.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC All I Want (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Live Long and Prosper (LE, $19.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). MAC Warm Companion (LE, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Eddie (DC, $36.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). MAC Warm Ice (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Liquid Lurex (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, less pigmented, cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Luca (LE, $36.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Metalwork (LE, $19.00) is lighter, less pigmented, cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty David (DC, $36.00) is lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Beatrice (LE, $36.00) is less pigmented, cooler (90% similar). Chanel Beige Dore (126) (LE, $37.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty William (LE, $36.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

This is tough. No shame is a winner. The other two, I like. But I see a Bobbi Brown Luxe as a close dupe for the first one which may rule that one out along with the short wear time. The BB formula has won my heart currently. I’m thinking Redemption would be awesome to have to layer over lipsticks. So, I am probably going to add that to the wish list too. I don’t care for it on it’s own personally. But, the 3 hour wear time is somewhat of a turnoff for a look I could likely get with a sparkly gloss. This is a thinking point for me. These caught my eye in the promo pics. This money may be going to Chanel.

Besame Mucho looks so nice for a peachy-nude! I only worry that it may be a little too light for me? Idk?

Oh my, Redemption just looks like such a gorgeous topper! I really love it, but I’m going to wait and see how the MAC Mariah Carey lipstick does. I am a huge Mariah fan! Mariah, Selena, Whitney, Aaliyah ( Yep, I did sign the petition for AaliyahForMAC !), Christina Aguilera, Amy Lee for being songstresses extraordinaire!

Love all three colors, slight transparency, and the bit of shine. If I didn’t have so many lipsticks, I’d buy them in a heartbeat.
Colors beautiful on you, Christine.

Christine, there are some really scary pop ups whenever I go to your site! Its a zombie/mummy that comes charging at the screen! Lol I saw it on my phone and freaked out! I was wondering if pressed something.

Ari Avatar

Hi Christine,

I think its a problem only on my end because it showed up when I was visiting another site (nouveau cheap). It was an advertisement for Six Flags fright fest I think. Sorry for troubling you! I figured it was some kind of adware or something.

Nice lip colors, but I couldn’t help noticing how radiant your cheeks look. What blush and highlighter or face products might you be wearing?

Marissa Avatar

killer shine would be a nice topper, but after i spent a few (um) bucks on mac a few days ago i decided i should (need) to go on a no makeup diet for the sake of my wallet. no shame reminds me of forbidden burgundy by ysl !!

No shame is gorgeous! I do have at least two dupes, though…
I really like Redemption, if I have to chose, and I probably do, I’d get Redemption, as I don’t have anything like it.
You look stunning in all three, Christine! I could not wear Besame Mucho, it’s just that little bit wrong for me. (Of course I could wear it, it just wouldn’t be flattering at all.) 😀

I really wanted No Shame and somehow missed it on release day. All of the lipsticks were gone by the time I got to place my order. I guess I’m now waiting until it’s out with the other retailers on 11/1 to try for it. I like the other 2 shades but they don’t fall in “special enough” for me to go for them. I think they’re pretty dupable.
