Marc Jacobs Beauty Object of Desire Face & Eye Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Marc Jacobs Beauty Object of Desire Face & Eye Palette
Marc Jacobs Beauty Object of Desire Face & Eye Palette ($69.00 for oz.) includes three cheek colors and six eyeshadows. They are in a gold, zippered case with a large, black tassel. As far as traveling goes, the upside is that it is rather cushioned and shouldn’t break easily, but it is thicker than most palettes. Some of the shades were decent, others were below average; it’s not a palette that seems worthy of splurging on for the holidays as a result. Those with several neutral palettes may find that this palette is rather repetitive. I did like that the cheek colors coordinated with the eye products, at least.
Tantric is a medium brown with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. The texture was soft, smooth, and on the thinner side, but it wasn’t dusty or hard to blend out on the skin. It wore well for eight hours on me. Dior Soft Terra (001) (LE, $49.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). Phytosurgence Golden Blaze (5) (P, $25.50) is warmer (95% similar). Exhibitionist is a medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was incredibly soft and silky, but as a result, it was also more powdery and prone to sheering out on the skin. It was more buildable than I anticipated, so I think it applied well and unless you wanted intense coverage in one pass, I don’t think most would notice the sheerness in practice. It wore well for eight hours before fading. Dior Miss (047) (P, $48.00) is more shimmery, cooler (95% similar). ColourPop Secret Crush (LE, $12.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (95% similar). Make a Sheen is a light gold with warm undertones and a chunky, frosted shimmer. The texture was drier and looser with a real noticeable grit from the shimmer/sparkle in it. The color applied decently to the skin, but it was hard to even out and looked patchy up-close. It lasted for seven hours on me. Tarte Champagne (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Estee Lauder Courreges (LE, $32.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tarte Authentic (LE, $28.00) is darker (95% similar). Iconic London Coral Glow (Right) (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Dior Precious Rocks (001) (LE, $59.00) is less shimmery, darker, less pigmented (90% similar). Kaja Toy Alien (P, $19.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). NARS Disco Nights (LE, $38.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Lights On is a light, yellow gold with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a really soft, silky texture that felt finely-milled and was just a touch powdery. This shade started to fade after seven and a half hours on me. Marc Jacobs Beauty Hot Pants (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Viseart Champs-Elysees (P, ) is darker (95% similar). Candlelight is a medium copper with warm, orange undertones and a frosted shimmer-sheen finish. The consistency felt soft and smooth, but it was looser and thin, which made it dustier to work with and prone to sheering out on the lid. The color wore for just over seven hours on me. Makeup Atelier Honey Brown #2 (P, ) is darker (95% similar). Anastasia Bellini (LE, $12.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Fenty Beauty Sunfrost (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Dimmer is a muted, medium-dark brown with subtle, warm yellow undertones and a matte finish. It was semi-opaque with a smooth, silky texture but ran thin and was better over a primer. It wore well for seven hours. Tarte Hazelnut Bon Bons (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Too Faced Mousse (PiP, $16.00) is warmer (95% similar). Anastasia Fawn (P, $12.00) is darker (95% similar). Violet Hour is a muted, medium lavender with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, but the dustier texture made it darken on the skin, which made it harder to blend out as it would stick strongly to some areas but less to others. This shade wore well for seven hours on me. LORAC Overcast (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). NARS Charade II (PiP, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). IT Cosmetics Romance (P, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Lancome Rich History (LE, $19.00) is cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Fairykin (LE, $4.50) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Twilight is a muted, dark plum with warm undertones and a satiny sheen. It had a firmer consistency in the pan, which led to difficulty blending and diffusing the color on the lid as it would look patchy. It had decent, buildable coverage, and the color itself started to fade after seven hours of wear. MAC Rich Core (P, $20.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty About Last Night No. 19 (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Anastasia Aubergine (P, $12.00) is cooler (95% similar). Guerlain Rose Barbare #5 (DC, ) is darker (90% similar). In the Dark is a dark black with warm, brown undertones and flecks of copper and bronze sparkle. It had good color payoff with a soft, finely-milled texture that was a little powdery but dense enough that it didn’t sheer out immediately on the skin. It wore well for eight hours on me, but the sparkles did not bind with the base color, so there was some fall out over time (a lot of it didn’t even make it to the lid to begin with). Marc Jacobs Beauty As Well (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). Chanel Jardin Zen #4 (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). LORAC Cursed (LE, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). Not my colors + lackluster quality = easy pass!
Thank you for the review, Christine!
Yeah, this palette missed the mark!
I like the last two shadows look in the pan, but not how they’re swatched and how they wore. At least there’s quite a few dupes.
Thank goodness for dupes 😀
I love MJ Beauty but I passed on this one. I have all the No. 7 palettes which are fantastic, and I had all the No. 3 palettes. However, I got rid of all of the No. 3 palettes because the quality in them was not consistent. I’m wondering if this holiday offering is made up of No. 3 shadows (or the same formula) since that is what I had experienced with them.
Interesting that the No. 3 trios seemed different from tne No. 7 ones! I have only tried a few of the trios.
I’ve always found MJ products to be a little overhyped and overpriced for what they are. I’m surprised at the price of this palette – it’s a lot more than some of the best and most popular palettesd out there!
This one was a miss!
I’m a bit surprised, the palettes from MJ are usually a little better.
I was, too!
Ah too bad… I liked the shades in here. Well, one thing less to desire! 🙂
Haha! 🙂
Para mi tono de piel definitivamente es un no, no.
When I spotted this in-store last week, I was SO tempted to pick it up to use as an all-in-one type of palette. Boy, am I glad I waited for your review! Which was the *only* reason I didn’t buy it right then and there. I said to myself; “hmm, looks great, but you know you should wait until…” ?
Phew! 🙂
The packaging is elegant, but I feel these are Tarte colors at MJ prices.
Ouch!
I really like the shades but there are way too many Cs in this palette to justify the price for me!
I hear ya – to me, this was a miss!
Disappointing. The colors seem so bland. I was hoping this would be a nice palette, most of it seems like it would be easy to duplicate. Candlelight is a beautiful color.
Your eyes turned out very nice.
Thank you!
I so hate you didn’t like this. I’ve had it awhile. I purchased it for my grown daughter for Christmas. I was so pleased with myself as she’s never had a MJ makeup product. I hope she likes it, before I read this, I was sure she was going to LOVE it!! I’m not upset just so disappointed! Thought I had really done so well!!! Oh well, what ya going to do?! Sad face!! I like most all your reviews!!! Haha
Oooh, I am so sorry, April! 🙁 I thought it was going to be B+ territory – not perfect but not bad myself!
I was lusting after this for a little over a month and finally purchased it as a birthday gift for myself! I have to say I absolutely love it! I have only encountered two cons in the past 3-4 weeks: The luminizer shade is not as intense as I anticipated (which is probably why it is called a luminizer, not a highlighter!) And also I find the zipper super annoying. It looks beautiful and different than any of my other palettes, but when it comes to actual use, it is quite irritating at times! Don’t worry, your daughter will love it!
The palette look really nice, I think. The plum and the black eyeshadows are really gorgeous. I’m going to get the MAC dupe for the plum one and I have dupes for the black.
If this palette had been really good, I think I might have bought it, as it is it’s an easy pass.
Glad to save you some money!
It’s not like MJ to have a C rating in their palettes. As you have stated in your comments Christine, this is a repetitive palette. Pretty average to me.
I was really surprised! They are normally decent.
Darn it, I had a 20% off employee discount coupon for Sephora last week and I bought this (along with a TONNN of other stuff) even though I was really on the fence about it since you hadn’t reviewed it yet! Looks like this one will be going back to Sephora!
Awww!
Hello! Does any of you happen to know if the pallette can be taken out of the case? In other words, can the case be re-used on its own? Thanks in advance! 🙂
I’m not sure, I did not try to depot mine.
