Makeup Geek Petal Pusher Eyeshadow
Makeup Geek Confection Eyeshadow ($6.00 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “blush pink with very subtle gray undertones and a matte finish.” It’s a pale, light pink with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It was soft but powdery, and it accentuated the texture of my lid and clung to it in patches, which made the area look drier. It lasted for six and a half hours. MAC Elementary Pink (LE, $17.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Tarte Wrapped Up (LE, ) is cooler (95% similar). Tarte Exhibit (LE, ) is brighter (95% similar). The texture was very soft but also quite powdery, so you’ll want to apply less than you think you need and then build-up the color if necessary. It had good color payoff and lasted for seven hours on me. bareMinerals Priceless (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Hard Currency (LE, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). Makeup Geek Enchanted Forest Eyeshadow ($6.00 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “deep ivy green with black undertones and a matte finish.” It’s a muted, dark green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a lightly dusty texture that was prone to sheering out on the lid and took some extra time to blend out. The color started to fade after seven hours of wear. LORAC Forest (LE, $19.00) is cooler (95% similar). LORAC Blackout (LE, $19.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). bareMinerals Utopia (P, ) is darker (95% similar). Makeup Geek Concrete Jungle Eyeshadow ($6.00 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “deep gray with subtle purple undertones and a matte finish.” It’s a muted, medium-dark gray with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation with a dusty, thin consistency that was quick to fade (six hours). It was hard to maintain intensity on bare skin, as it would sheer out. Pass for me on the shades, nothing stands out for me. But some shades reminds me of a few Inglot shades I do have. 😉
Glad you have Inglot dupes ;D
🙁
I’m so bummed that Vintage performed so poorly. It was the one shade from this release that was screaming my name and I immediately put it on my wishlist. Thankfully I’ve grown accustomed to waiting for your reviews before purchasing. You’re one of very few honest bloggers out there and I trust your unbiased opinion.
Oh well… hopefully someone else will release a similar shade in better quality.
It’s such a pretty shade, but it needs some help.
Than you, Vee!
Sooooo glad I didn’t order any of these.
So sad about this release!
These particular shades weren’t really calling my name anyway, but it’s still a shame to see them perform rather poorly 🙁
🙁
Rather wish I hadn’t jumped on these, but figured the quality has usually been so consistent with MG, it was a relatively ‘safe’ buy. Very disappointed would be the right words and certainly much less likely to jump on the bandwagaon and make the leap without reviews in the future. I need NYX milk (I only pull this out as big guns) base to get payoff with a lot of my shade choices. I seemed to have picked up the dicier ones. Lucky me.
NYX Milk is my ultimate fail-safe/go-to when everything hits the fan, or some other equivalent, but these have been such a disappointment!
Like you, quality is fairly consistent with Makeup Geek–there are hits and misses, but there aren’t that many Ds/Fs–but it seems like you along with other readers have all had consistently poorer experiences with the new mattes.
Doesn’t seem to be like to great of a bunch. I guess for the price, it would be worth using a base if one loves the shade. Do you think a base would be enough to bring these to good? I see a couple I like. But, I’m really asking because I wonder how far gone can a shadow be to be “fixed” by a base? lol..Sorry if that is too much. 🙂
Regular primer might help with some of the ones that are buildable, like Vintage or Bedrock, but you’ll likely need a creamier, slightly tacky base for Confection/Enchanted Forest!
*Cries inside.* When these first launched I was trying to think how I would narrow it down to only getting a dozen. So many of the colors would have filled holes in my custom palettes. Now I think I’m just going to skip it all together. I’ll pick up Morocco or Red Brick depending on who I place my next order with (MUG or MAC).
(Just wanted to say, Christine, that I’ve been using MUG High Tea recently and it’s a great one, good job 🙂 ).
Morocco seems to have been the one good one out of the bunch!
Thanks, Ginny!
Morocco worked really well for me! I was lucky–I only ordered two, Morocco and Cherry Cola, and as it turned out they are some of the few that got decent grades from Christine (I think A- and B+). I’m happy with both.
Yeah, thank god they didn’t refomulate that. It’s my favorite crease shade for green shadows and great on the outer lid. A winner.
Christine, some of the “view dupes side by side” aren’t linking to the correct shadow. I was eyeing Enchanted Forest to pair with my shimmery olive gold shadows, but the MAC dupe Femme Noir looks more promising. The rest don’t look too great
Could you tell me which ones aren’t working? I checked all five in this post and they were working for me.
The Bedrock one links to Concrete Jungle and vice versa
Okay, I think I fixed it!
Has anyone tried Vintage over primer? How did it perform? I love the shade but if primer doesn’t take care of issues it has to be a skip 🙁
It should definitely help some, but it may depend over the type of primer you use!
Hi Christy,
I used Vintage the other day with Urban Decay PP and I found it faded quicker than I’d like. I’ll try a Maybelline Color Tattoo next time cause I really want the shade to work, since it’s so pretty.
Hopefully that helps you!
Thanks so much, Megan! Sigh–that’s really too bad. Let me know if you find it works out over the Color Tattoo or anything else you try! I wonder if mixing a darker plum with Laura Mercier Plum Smoke will get me something similar; I think I’ll experiment with that. There’s a MUFE shade–dark purple taupe or something like that–that sounds like a good performer and wouldn’t need to be darkened much to match Vintage, so I might end up getting that one. Thanks for letting me know about your experience with it with UD PP!

Here’s a better version. Kind of weird they have the same name. But these are amazing quality.
Wild! I will look that one up! Thanks!
I’ve never heard of this brand but it’s really speaking to me right now. Is the quality consistent among the pressed shadows?
It’s frustrating, because I love the colors MUG comes up with. Enchanted Forest and Vintage could have been amazing.
They are great shades in theory!
Slightly better today, with a few B – grades, but nah, I don’t think this formula is for me. Unless it gets fixed after the honeymoon! Instead, I think I’ll go for getting either some MUFE or MAC dupes. Well, hey, I always have wanted MAC Haux and BlackBerry anyways! CP Plaid seems close enough for me to dupe that deep green shade.
Sadly, I was pleasantly surprised they weren’t terrible when I was applying them to test. Not exactly a good thing, but I was like, “Oh, this isn’t totally awful!”
That IS sad! I cannot wrap my brain around how these could come out so bad that a few B- ones could give a sense of relief!
Pass for me. I can’t believe the hype that comes from You Tube anymore. The proof is in the pudding and sometimes it’s better to invest in something that performs! And sometimes you don’t even need to invest!
I appreciate your honesty, Christine!
Of course, Amanda! 🙂
Thanks for your honest review as always! I always come here first before making a purchase. It needs your stamp of approval 🙂
My pleasure, Paola! Thank you for your loyalty!
Ugh, MUG! 😛
🙁
Yikes, this all bad. This new collection from them has been painful.
It has been!
Sorry – I don’t really like these – the colours are bland and finish is poor. The only colour I was remotely interested in was Enchanted Forest and as I have Max Volume from the Playlist – it is a much better dupe.
Max Volume is much richer!
What I want to say is probably not appropriate. Let’s just say, I went from salivating to the opposite. TG I finally got into paint pots & got Tailor Gray. And have Overcast w/ Berlin Underground. I was so looking forward to the grays. Now, I’m waiting for the round-up, and will choose very judiciously. I can’t believe that this MUG failure has actually been somewhat emotional for me. But, I’ve gone from sad to ^#**ed! Let us hope that MUG doesn’t overhaul the whole line. If I put myself in MS’s shoes, I go from living the dream to worst nightmare.
So far, it doesn’t seem like a great launch 🙁 Too many readers are also disappointed based on receiving their orders as well, and it doesn’t bode well!
Too bad this collection of mattes performs so badly.
So sad D:
Is MUG Vintage at all similar to UD Nooner from Naked 3?
Vintage is darker and cooler-toned!
