Make Up For Ever C604 Artist Rouge Lipstick
Make Up For Ever C604 Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deep black with neutral undertones and a satin finish. There seemed to be very, very fine shimmer that kept it from being a true cream. The consistency was lightly creamy but dense, which yielded full color coverage in a single pass. The lipstick held well to the lips, so it didn’t migrate or move around, but it wasn’t clingy, which made it comfortable to wear. This shade wore for five hours and was lightly hydrating. Marc Jacobs Beauty Blacquer (000) (LE, $30.00) is darker (95% similar). Make Up For Ever #50 (DC, $19.00) is glossier (95% similar). ColourPop Aeronaut (P, $10.00) is glossier (95% similar). Make Up For Ever M100 Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium, pinky-peach with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a velvety consistency that was comfortable to apply, as it didn’t tug and glided smoothly over the lips, but it was thin and clung to lips a bit–not the most flattering of finishes! I found that this one faded unevenly over time, so there was less product along the center of the lips and a stronger, noticeable edge. The color lasted for four hours and was lightly drying. Maybelline Beige Babe (P, $7.99) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Sugar Cookie (LE, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Cream and Sugar (P, $30.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Anastasia Soft Touch (P, $18.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Bronx (P, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Antonio's Girls (LE, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Influentially It (P, $22.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). NYX Spirit (P, $6.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Maybelline Daringly Nude (P, $7.99) is warmer (95% similar). Too Faced Sorry Not Sorry (P, $22.00) is darker (85% similar). Tarte Namaste (P, $20.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC LarLarLee (LE, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). Urban Decay Unicorn (DC, $18.00) is warmer (95% similar). ColourPop Echo Park (P, $7.00) is darker (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Automatic (Left) (LE, ) is lighter, cooler, glossier (85% similar). ColourPop Can U Even (P, $9.00) is darker (85% similar). Burberry Dusty Pink (406) (P, $35.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Sephora Peach Tart (LE, $14.00) is darker, brighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Third Eye (P, $7.00) is darker (85% similar). Sephora Alter-ego (72) (P, $14.00) is darker (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. Make Up For Ever M101 Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium rose-brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly. The texture of this shade was more forgiving than M100, as it wasn’t as clingy, so it glided across the lips with ease but was also easier to wear. This shade stayed on well for closer to five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Sephora Alter-ego (72) (P, $14.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Bronx (P, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Spirit (P, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). ColourPop Time Square (LE, $6.50) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Anastasia Coconut (LE, $18.00) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Burnt Spice (P, $21.00) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Muneca (DC, $6.50) is cooler, less glossy (90% similar). NARS Rowdy (LE, $27.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Age/Sex/Location (LE, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Muneca (P, $5.00) is darker, less glossy (90% similar). Dose of Colors Nude Chica (LE, $18.00) is lighter (90% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to be long-wearing, “extremely pigmented,” and hydrating. It is available in two finishes–Cream and Matte, indicated by the C or M in the beginning of each shade’s name. The Cream formula is richly pigmented, lightly creamy without being too emollient or slippery, and go on smoothly and feel good while worn (wear ranges from four to eight hours, depending on the shade). The Matte formula is thinner and clings somewhat to lips, though it goes on nicely and doesn’t tug, and it doesn’t always look flattering on as it can emphasize imperfections on my lips but really depends on the shade, as some look great on. I found the Cream formula to be moderately hydrating, while the Matte formula was slightly to moderately drying. All shades had a slight, rosy scent to them, though I didn’t notice any taste.

I am ALWAYS here for a nice black lipstick! I love that it doesn’t pull red or blue or green! It’s just plain black! Love it! I might nab it, since it’s one of the higher-rated black lippies. It’s okay that it’s a bit pricey (for me, who is usually on a NYX budget), because it’s not an everyday color for me.
The other colors are quite pretty too! Very nice MLBB colors for many, but there’re plenty of dupes out there.
It’s very neutral to me! I also like how well it applied!
That black lipstick is glorious. Out of the three, I expected that one to get the lowest mark, but I am pleasantly surprised!
So was I!
I’m actually eyeing the C604 black because it’s hard to get a solid formula in black lipsticks.
I wouldn’t have thought black lipstick would be difficult years ago, but it is harder than I thought for sure!
C604 is looking pretty rad!
It does!
The black and rosy brown are on my list!!!
Woohoo! 😀
Wow, the black is stunning! Definitely one of the best blacks that I’ve seen, love it !!
It’s very intense!
M101 looks nice!
Glad ya liked it!
Your brows look soooo good in this post!
Thanks, Kelly!
M100 and M101 would be the perfect nude colours to have handy! I’m loving these shades and the formula seem quite up there! Excited to see more colours 😉
They would be!
Oooh, I really love the black.
Agreed!
The only one I’m drawn to, of course, is M101. Of which I have several of the listed dupes for. But that one looks really lovely for a nude lipstick!
The jet black shade looks to be VERY high quality! Especially considering how many black or very deep lipsticks can go splotchy or sheered out.
Glad you have several dupes 😀
Oh, that black! I want it, it’s gorgeous!
I really like M101, I just hope it’ll look half as good on me as it does on you, Christine.
Thank you, Helene!
I’m really impressed with C604, the black one! I think I need that for my kit, and would like to try to wear it.
M101 would not look good on me personally, but it’s a color that’s flattering for lots of people, and very popular, too, so it could be really useful in my kit. M100 doesn’t appeal to me quite as much… too pale? M101 has a richer look to it…
It’s such a rich shade of black, and I like how neutral it is!
Hi Christine,
I really like your eyeshadow here. What are you wearing?
Thanks,
Dawn
