MAC Rockin' Rebel MAC Girls Personality Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Rockin' Rebel
MAC Rockin’ Rebel MAC Girls Personality Palette ($39.50 for TBA oz.) is a set of brighter blues and greens that includes eight eyeshadows and one highlighter. The palette features a new eyeshadow formula with four finishes–Satin Shine, Smooth Pearl, Foiled Shadow, and Creamy Matte–that are supposed to have a “creamy, silky texture with superior colour payoff” along with a powder highlighter that’s described as “lightweight” and has “just the right amount of pearl and pop.”
Overall, the formula isn’t night and day from the brand’s standard powder eyeshadow (and did not seem like they reinvented powder eyeshadow!), but it was noticeably softer, more finely-milled, and the Foiled finishes were denser and very sparkly–almost like an amped up take on their Lustre eyeshadows. The Creamy Matte finish seemed to have more pigmentation and blendability than of the brand’s firmer mattes have had. Unfortunately, the quality of each shade varied enough that it was not a slam dunk formulation, but I liked the direction of the formula but would like to see better consistency.

Mega-Moody
Mega-Moody is a dark pewter with subtle, warm undertones and a sparkling sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which was buildable to opaque coverage if applied with a dampened brush. The consistency was soft and blendable but felt a bit looser and drier compared to other shades in this finish. It wore well for eight hours with slight fallout over time.

Bleached Out
Bleached Out is a pale pink with warmer, gold and cooler silver sparkle. The sparkles did not adhere very well to the lid, as they did not seem to bind with the underlying color, so there was a fair amount of fallout during application and little product that stayed on the lid. It had semi-sheer coverage to begin with, so this was one that did not show up well on the eye at all. It seemed to wear around seven hours but was hard to discern.

Gilty as Can Be
Gilty as Can Be is a medium gold with warm, brown undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. It had medium color coverage that applied fairly evenly but was hard to build up on its own. When I tried it over a primer or with a dampened brush, it was easier to work with and had better color payoff. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours with some fallout.

Denim Genes
Denim Genes is a medium blue with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was not buildable, and the color itself seemed to fade slightly after initial application, as it never looked that bright on the lid. The color lasted for seven hours on me.

Bikers & Babes
Bikers & Babes is a muted, light-medium blue with almost “warm” undertones paired with a sparklign finish. It had good color payoff that applied well to bare skin, though there was some fallout when I started to blend the edges. The eyeshadow wore well for eight hours but had some more fallout as I wore it.

Rockin' Rebel
Rockin’ Rebel is a light-medium green with warm, golden undertones and a satin finish. It had medium color coverage that was not buildable, and it was only somewhat improved over primer (semi-opaque). The consistency was thin and firmer in the pan, so it did not blend out as easily as I expected. On me, it started to fade noticeably after seven hours of wear.

Bad Influence
Bad Influence is a muted, dark gray with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The texture was moderately powdery with some dustiness as I applied it to the lid, which resulted in semi-sheer coverage that just did not go on as evenly as it should have. It wore well for seven hours on me before fading.

Blk-ish
Blk-ish is a muted, medium-dark blue with cool undertones and a satin finish. It had decent pigmentation, though the texture was thinner and applied more unevenly to the lid, so it took more effort and time to diffuse the shade out in practice. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Let It Rock
Let It Rock is a bright, white gold with subtle, warm undertones and a luminous sheen. The powder had a smooth, dense textur ein the pan, but it was hard to pick up product with highlighter brushes–I felt like a blush brush, due to the greater density, worked best with it. On the skin, it looked better than it felt or swatched. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours.

Terrible! 🙁
I wish it was better!
Was secretly hoping this would be the one, but I’m also a bit relieved that it didn’t earn that “B” or higher that I was hoping for. I do believe that if used over primer and using brush dampened with my e.l.f. Mist & Set, I could get some really nice eye looks with this. Except for that truly pathetic looking bright green or Bleached Out. And I just talked myself out of it! ?
You are safe 😀
Oh, this isn’t good. Rockin’ Rebel is the new MAC palette that interested me the most (and I really like the name “Rockin’ Rebel,” though the colors remind me of mermaids). I’m so glad I didn’t spend my money on it. But you did such a great job with it, Christine. So pretty!
Thanks, Seraphine!
Rockin’ Rebel is such a beautiful green, it’s heartbreaking that it doesn’t have greater colour payoff.
I know!! I was surprised it wasn’t better overall.
The colour groupings in this just seem so odd and random. Christine, has MAC explained (or can you see any rhyme or reason) for the varying sizes of the pans throughout this collection? It also seems sort of random, as the larger pans don’t seem to be confined just to base/highlight colours…some large pans are light while others are dark and then there will be small pans of similarly dark or mid-toned shadows in the palette as well. I just can’t see any practical reasoning behind this.
MAC did not provide any info with respect to the size of the pans!
Oh no, so sad! This was the one that looked the most interesting to me
an option is to shop your stash and choose the shades you don’t already have. Inglot has lots of color options in different finishes
Oh no! I liked the overall cool tone of the palette – but it is just awful.
Gosh, I thought, OK I’ve found green/blue winter palette, but no…a “C”. And since I’ve had bad experience with MAC shadows in the past, I’ll save my 39€ to apply to something more expensive, like I’m waiting for Pat McGrath’s palette to be sold somewhere I can receive it without using FEDEX. 😉
