MAC Chocotease, Carnivorous, Oh, Lady Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Chocotease
MAC Chocotease Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour ($21.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a deep brown with warm, reddish undertones and a matte finish. It was nearly full coverage, but there was a little translucency where a second layer (or just a partial layer in some places) would be a good idea. The texture was thin but not watery, spread well and dried down well. The lipstick wore well for just over seven hours on me, and it started to feel drying after four hours of wear.
The Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour formula is supposed to be pigmented, last eight hours, and be “non-feathering.” They are typically pigmented and long-wearing, but the quality of the formula is all over the place–some shades wear down evenly, aren’t too drying, and apply well, while other shades are patchy, streaky, or prone to flaking (and also terribly drying!).

Formula Overview
$21.00/0.17 oz. - $123.53 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "long-wearing" with "pigment-soaked, liquid colour" in the "mattest matte finish." The brand stated that it should wear for "8 hours" and be "non-feathering, non-bleeding." The majority of shades in the formula are opaque in a single layer, and for the most part, I felt like more was on the applicator than necessary for an even, opaque layer of product on my lips.
Sometimes, with richer and less forgiving shades (e.g. more contrast), I found it imperative to remove some from the applicator prior to applying so I didn't get too much product along the edges. Some shades applied smoothly and dried down that way, while other shades dried down and separated more noticeably along deeper lip lines, so it really was shade-dependent.
The formula was quick to dry down, was somewhat flexible, and lightweight to wear. The formula was mostly non-drying with a few, thicker shades feeling a little more drying over time. Many shades lasted six hours or longer with some definitely meeting the brand's "8 hour" wear claim.
They had a subtle vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Carnivorous
MAC Carnivorous Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour ($21.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a deep red with subtle, cool undertones paired with a mostly matte finish. This shade took longer to dry down than most in the range, and the final dry down was more semi-matte than flat matte as well (though it wore down to a flat matte finish after two hours of wear). The consistency was thin, a little watery, but it managed to apply evenly and smoothly across the lips. It had mostly opaque color coverage that lasted for eight hours on me. This shade left a stain behind, and it was drying after four hours of wear.

Oh Lady
MAC Oh Lady Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour ($21.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a deep berry with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a thin consistency that spread fairly well across the lips and did not appear streaky or uneven as it dried down. I found that the color did dry deeper in my lip lines, so not only did it appear a little “cracked” after the dry down, it emphasized my lines further by making them darker. This shade lasted for eight hours but was drying over time.

It’s so funny that my whole makeup collection 10 years ago was MAC, but now I never buy anything MAC (at least I can’t remember the last time I purchased MAC products).
Very interesting!
Because I am going gaga for the actual shades, but not the dry factor, I sure am glad I have CP Panda for Oh Lady and UD Disturbed for Carnivorous. Although, that name cracks me up because I am a bit of a carnivore, and have one vegan “friend” who can’t stand it! Hey, what can I say? Steak sure tastes good! ?
Haha! 😉
Oh Lady and Carnivorous are nice shades. I bet they would dry my lips past raisin stage.
They are pretty colors!
I’m a sucker for these retromatte liquid formulas 😉 I’m in love with the colour selection and I think I’ll definitely be adding a few new shades to my collection!
Glad you like ’em!
I love me a bold lip, so all 3 colors look gorgeous!
Woohoo! 🙂
