I really wanted to want one of these, especially Emerald and/or Amethyst, but looking at the swatches, there are too many patchy-looking shades, especially some of the mattes that I was excited about.
I agree. I had sky high hopes for emerald, and it just isn’t doing it for me. Oh well. I guess I’ll just keep waiting for the green palette of my dreams.
Ditto, but I may bite if the rating for Emerald somehow (and I doubt it, but you never know) makes it to B+.
I agree. The mattes look like dollar store quality.
I’ve been really drawn to deep saturated blue shades like Sapphire #1 lately. No clue how I’d actually wear it in a work-appropriate look, but that’s rarely stopped me before lol.
Sapphire #1 reminds me of the dark blue from UD Kaleidoscope. Maybe you can get inspiration from looks using that one.
Ive gone and ordered the Emerald palette after seeing your swatches!
It has unique shades, fills a hole in my collection, and isnβt expensive!
Love your blog, Christine!
Darn!! I was loving these on the promo arm swatches pictures. But your true, no BS, swatches show how they really are. Such a bummer… I guess I’ll have to pass. Good to have an impartial judge like you. ??
Btw, this fall makes 8 years of me religiously following you! I found you when I flipped s!*$ over the MAC Disney Villians collection. Happy anniversary to us!!! Lol!!! I blame you and tarababyz for my hoard… ?
Happy reader-versary!!
Just wanted to pop in and say that your Harlequin thumbnails made me laugh. I sincerely hope you left the house like that. π
I like the idea behind these palettes. but I’m not understanding why the blue one is the only one that contains an eye-bleedingly bright, obviously non-spectrum color, even if it is near-adjacent on the color wheel — seems like they’d make that choice for all or none.
Emerald all the way! If I were to buy just one, I would go for the green!
Ruby and Topaz aren’t *bad*, but with PMG Mothership V incoming November…
Totally off topic, but I am now 100% inspired to do one eye green, the other one red. Head up to SFS just to see if anyone picks up on the Twin Peaks reference! I’m not kidding!
What is SFS?
Oops, I’m sorry, Seraphine! My initializing everything can get ridiculous on my end. It stands for Scottsdale Fashion Square, which is the one huge mall nearest to me.
Iβm a HUGE Twin Peaks fan going back to the original airings. Other than Dr Jacobyβs red and green glasses, is there another reference Iβm missing?
Nope! Dr. Jacob’s glasses, and Christine even has which side each goes on done correctly! That’s why it immediately brought that to mind. I loved that show, but my then husband hated it, so I didn’t get to see every episode after the first season. No, his thing was the X Files.
My husband isnβt into it, either. I have all three seasons on DVD!
How can you love the X Files and not Twin Peaks?? My momβs and my favorite shows back in the day (or still!)
I brought the Emerald and Sapphire palettes because I thought they’d be great to travel with. Hopefully they perform well.
Ditto, waiting for reviews on these two and possibly the purple (ever so possible).
The mattes look pretty bad, which is baffling to me. I have the Brights Obsessions palette, and the bright mattes in that are fantastic. Emerald is the only one of these I’d consider, unless the others end up looking a hell of a lot better over primer.
How disappointing – the mattes are poorly pigmented, some of the gittery shades promise lots of fallout and even a few shimmers look thin.
And I am not sure why there is a chartreuse shade in with the blues…..
Anyway, the Emerald palette is my favourite. Love the shade colours.
I’m living for these green shades, and I hope these turn up in Australia at some point.
Emeralds and Sapphires are my favs. With a primer.and or a damp brush, they should all work. I upriver always and have water at the ready for any number of uses.
Oh man, I knew I should have checked if you had searched these before I ordered amethyst today!! I was fooled by the ridiculously pigmented swatches on the Sephora website!! The colors are beautiful but the mattes look rather problematic. TBH, I really didnβt need another eye shadow palette but I was just excited to find one with colors that Iβd wear AND canβt dupe in my existing stash. Iβd been eyeing some of Hudaβs other Obsessions palettes but the ones that I liked most were too similar to what I already have. Oh well, if I donβt end up liking it, I can return it and perhaps just look into dupes for the shades I liked most.
Palettes that donβt swatch well can still be very good. I hope you have a good experience with yours.
The more I review the swatches, the more the emerald one may not really work for me. Someone it seems muted and cool for my brown eyes, though I really like the shades (they’re unique for my collection). The sapphire one was a god at first look (almost regardless of what Christine’s rating will be, except it it’s in the C range, then I may just pass by it and cry). The surprise one for me is the amethyst one. Since I don’t have many purples and it looks like it will work well with my eyes, this may be a contender. Thanks for knocking all of these palettes out lately Christine!
Oh, I almost forgot, my biggest disappoints here are Sapphire 5 & 6, boo hoo (hope primer or fixing medium will rectify their adherence. π
First off, I love your hair! The color is stunning on you!
Some of the matte colors are awful and seem like an afterthought. Would they apply better with a wet brush or a brush that has a facial mist on it? I’m also horrified by Sapphire #6. There is absolutely no color payoff.
Aside from one of the matte colors looking pretty bad, the amethyst palette is very pretty. The topaz palette is also unique and reminds me of fall leaves and pumpkins.
I’m wondering if these would apply better than searched, BC I find the Emerald and Sapphire palettes tempting but I’m at a lost on how to apply something like Sapphire #6.
I am not mad at the quality, considering the price point. A lot of much pricier palettes performe about the same, no?
I am instinctively drawn to the blue one… except I have a dupe for every color!! Except the first one, the deep dark blue, but it would make no sense to buy a palette just for ONE shade.
The green palette is pretty too but it is a color that I would rarely wear.
Hello!
I have Topaz and Emerald one. Mattes are sheer at the first swatch but they are buildable, layer so good opaquely without being dry. The formula is kinda fool proof imo, easy to work with.
Lots of super pigmented shadows end up looking muddy after blending and they require neat applicaiton skills. Just like the case with abh subculture shadows, you have to be careful and gentle with them, these ones are definitely different, drier and sheerer in matte formula
Color choices are super fool proof too. Shimmers and glitters are ok quality.
