Guerlain Ors et Merveilles Eye & Blush Palette
Guerlain Ors et Merveilles Eye & Blush Palette

Guerlain Ors et Merveilles Eye & Blush Palette ($90.00 for 0.40 oz.) includes five eyeshadows housed in the top tier and then four blushes hidden beneath it in the lower tier. I’m not a fan of the blush formula they use in these tiered palettes, and I’m even less of a fan of the fact that the pans are tiny (even the “large” ones)–an eye brush just comfortably fits in the smallest pans, so you can imagine what a pain it is to dip a blush brush just into one shade (better to think of them as duos or even a single shade, perhaps). The blush formula is on the drier, dustier side and has lesser color payoff, though it is somewhat buildable. I like the eyeshadow formula a lot more, but the colors are dupable, typical for holiday (not really a bad thing, but it’s less tempting for some), and even more, more similar than not to last year’s holiday palette as well. That being said, the eyeshadows weren’t good enough to make up for the subpar blush performance this year.

Ors et Merveilles #1 is a medium-dark brown with a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that wore well for eight hours. bareMinerals Regal (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Ors et Merveilles #3 is a soft, light-medium gold with warm, yellow-orange tones and a frosted sheen. It had fairly good pigmentation, but the texture was a little dusty. It wore for eight hours on me. Smashbox Fortune (LE, ) is brighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Last Dance #1 (PiP, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Gucci Beauty Tuscan Storm #1 (DC, ) is warmer (95% similar). Too Faced Gingerdoodle (LE, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). Lancome Filigree (PiP, $19.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Ors et Merveilles #4 is a light-medium yellow gold with warm undertones and a frosted, sparkly finish. It had so-so color payoff, and the texture was dry, which resulted in sheerer coverage and some fall out during application. It wore for seven and a half hours with some fall out. Chanel Pearl River #3 (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Ors et Merveilles #5 is a light-medium pink with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque coverage (it’s a bit better than it appears in the swatch, as it is quite close to my skin tone, I think it looks almost misleadingly sheer in the photo) with a slightly firmer texture. It lasted for eight hours. Colour Pop Party Girl (LE, $6.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Free Spirit No. 5 (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Tarte Tartetini (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Frisco (LE, $17.00) is darker (95% similar). Natasha Denona Flamingo (57V) (PiP, $29.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Ors et Merveilles #7 is a subtly bright, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer coverage that was more difficult to blend out, as the texture was quite firm in the pan and thin on the skin. It lasted for seven and a half hours. MAC Hey, Coral, Hey (P, $29.00) is cooler (95% similar). Tarte Bashful (LE, $29.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Every Time You Go (LE, $21.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). KIKO 108 Orange Coral (DC, $12.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Too Faced How Deep is Your Love? (P, $26.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Ors et Merveilles #8 is a medium pink with warm undertones and lighter pink shimmer. It had sheer color payoff with a dusty, thin texture that tended to sheer out so it was hard to build-up the color during application. The color faded after seven hours of wear. Becca Flowerchild (P, $32.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Love Glow (P, $40.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Tarte Fetching (LE, $29.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Ors et Merveilles #9 is a pop of medium, orange-coral with gold sparkle and shimmer. The texture was noticeably dry to the point where the powder didn’t feel like it was binding together, so it sheered out and looked a little textured on the skin (the shimmers/sparkles separate from the base). On me, the color wore well for seven and a half hours. Tom Ford Beauty Love Lust (Discontinued) (DC, $60.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Colour Pop Fox (DC, $8.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Beach Bum (P, $25.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Jouer Marigold (LE, ) is brighter (90% similar). Wow, too bad about the blushes, because the colors here are so colors are so classic and flattering! I can see this being used year-round or for travel. And Guerlain’s elegant packaging never fails to impress. It would’ve been better if they had just included 1 great blush and 1 highlighter on bottom, instead of trying to cram 4 mediocre ones in there. Does this have any fragrance?

The cheek products are scented but the eyeshadows don’t (I think, based on trying to smell the two components as separately as possible!).

I was waiting to read a detailed review of this one, thanks! I bought last years and getting a closer look at the swatches it seems very similar (although the quality seems to have declined!) Thanks as always for your fantastic reviews! 🙂

Thank you Christine! Eyeshadows are similar to last year’s and blushes are even worse in quality.. That’s all I needed to know! Crossing it off my to-buy list.

All too dupable and plain. YIKES.
I noticed that the #2 eyeshadow shade looks about identical to UD Roach, although I could be wrong?
However, I am inspired to try this eye look you did, Christine, but using my MUFE Celestial Earth, Golden Beige, UD Roach, and a bit of something light gold on the center lid, like UD Half Baked or Dirty Sweet. With MAC Bamboo or UD Combust to blend out the edges.
But no way am I buying this Guerlain palette! (OMG, those blushes ?)

I guess the only way you can get to the smaller blush pans is to use one of those very flat, small brushes that are often included with high-end blushes. Too bad they didn’t include one in this case, it would have been useful!
Like last year I think that this palette looks gorgeous but is not very interesting for a makeup lover. It would make a wonderful gift, but I wouldn’t even consider buying something with such classic shades at this price for myself. And yeah the shadows look so much like last year’s that when I saw the first promo pics, I thought they were just repromoting it!

Aw this is disappointing.
Is it just me or has Guerlain been off their game lately? They’ve had some great products but quite a few misses too.

Mostly misses for me lately, but I find their eyeshadow/blush formulas to be more miss than hit 🙁 Even a few years ago.

this looks pretty on, but i bought last year’s palette, so i’ll be skipping this entirely-it looks way to similar!

I’m not a big fan of these kinds of palettes either Christine. And this palette is VERY similar to the one they released last year. The colours are quite dupable and live in every other kind of palette we have – especially if you have some UD, Marc Jacobs or Lorac. The blushes are worse than average.
A beautiful look you have created Christine with these eye shadows and blush.

Bummer! I haven’t really loved any of their winter holiday palettes since the Liu Calligraphy palette (which I still own and treasure) and that came out sooo long ago.

Aww, bummer! I was totally prepared to buy this if it did well! I kicked myself for skipping last years! The shadows are nice. Ugh, why would they put a poor performing blush with it?! I so wanted the set since I already ordered the meteorite and the Rouge G. Is it me, or do the colors resemble MAC’s Morning Light quad?
Well ,that’s $90 for other goodies I suppose. Btw, Gorgeous eye look Chrstine!

Last year’s palette was nice, but the blushes were still subpar, lol, so I don’t know, $90 for imperfection is tough to swallow, I think!

They are similar to the concept of Morning Light – warmer, metallic neutrals!

You’re right. When I clicked through the link, I was on my phone and only caught the top part ( the shadows). I’m sure that I skipped it for that reason as I have the meteorites.

Right now, I’m so happy that I decided to buy last year’s palette at the last minute! I am very disappointed in the quality and the similarity to their last holiday release. I expected so much more from Guerlain.

If I managed not to snag Petrouchka… forgive me, my best malamute, from over the Rainbow Bridge.. on your eponymous palette last year, certainly won’t spring for this one. The construction + layout seem better than the product. But, hold on while I get my American Girl doll: maybe she’ll let me borrow her blush brush. It’s a good thing G still can make lipstick, and some of their scents (esp. The WAY old ones) will always rule. ‘Cause their blush was not worth making. Depotted an old duo from a round/ you choose 2 half moons case. Great colors, but pretty dry and about 1/4 the quality of MUG. Course, you were probably in junior high, so you weren’t around to tell me NO! Glad you are now, & thanks for all your massive work in your heavy season.

I definitely didn’t want this anyway, as I got the one last year and the eyeshadows are so similar. But it’s disappointing that the blushes in this year’s are such a problem. 🙁

On pictures I really really like this years holiday palette !
Shadow + blush, 2 levels, this packaging is so travel friendly. I’m in love with this one more than the meteorite ball, and waiting these days to see your review about it 🙂 !

This year’s colours are totally my favourites !!!
Last year’s shadows were too “yellow” and the blushes were too “browny” for me, so I passed. Cause I don’t like brown base cheek and lip products, they always age me a lot.

I think I’m still going to get this palette ! Ok I have dupes of those colours but this palette is so travel friendly ! My favourite eye and cheek colours in 1 cute palette !!!
Also you look sooo pretty with them, especially with the blushes, so well blended ! I can see them, they are exactly the colours I love, but they don’t look too heavy, exactly what I like when I wear blushes.
How did you managed to apply the small blushes ?

Need to touch the blushes to make the final decision, but they should be really bad in texture to make me skip it. On you they look so pretty !

I was shocked Turnadot was never made perm!!!

Okay, I might buy in the sale after Christmas at half price. That is how I bought Petroughka .

This isn’t doing much for me, the eyeshadows all have so many dupes, the only one I found interesting was #2. I love how the blushes look in the pans, but the grades wasn’t impressive. When I saw the photo of the compact in your hand I really understood how small the blush pans are. It would have been better to have just one or two instead or four.
Thanks for always writing honest reviews, and for saving me some money!
