My Little Pony

ColourPop My Little Pony 12-Pan Pressed Powder Shadow Palette ($16.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette with 12 shades in a variety of hues. The palette felt a bit divided between warmer tones of pink and orange and cooler tones of silver and teal. The color combination is fun and makes one have to get creative in pairing shades together. I wish the quality of each shade was higher, though, as there were two real misses in the palette. For the price point, it wouldn’t make me steer clear, but I know ColourPop can do better!

Butterscotch

Butterscotch is a very light, cool lavender with a matte finish. It had good pigmentation in a single layer, while the consistency was soft, a bit powdery, but it was blendable and did not seem to have much fallout in practice. The color lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Blossom

Blossom is a medium coral-orange with warm, golden shimmer. It had semi-sheer to medium coverage, and it was not buildable unless used with a dampened brush. The texture was drier and looser, and as a result, the eyeshadow felt almost gritty to the touch. I felt the only way to manage this one was to use a dampened brush, which helped the powder to bind better and adhere evenly to the lid. On me, it lasted for six hours and had some fallout (dry).

Starshine

Starshine is a medium orange with strong, warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer. The eyeshadow felt soft, slightly dry to the touch, so it did not go on quite as evenly as desired but it blended out without issue. I think the color would go on even easier with a dampened brush, though. The color started to fade noticeably on me after eight hours of wear.

Applejack

Applejack is a muted, medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, lightly dusty texture that had a touch of excess product kicked up in the pan but did not seem prone to fallout during application. It blended out easily and lasted for eight hours on me.

Skydancer

Skydancer is a light-medium lavender with warm, pink undertones and a sparkling finish. It had sheer coverage, which was not buildable, and a drier, looser consiwstency that made it difficult to use on its own. This is the type of texture that would need a tacky base or a dampened brush to be half-decent. What little I could apply to the lid seemed to drop off my lid within five hours of wear.

Minty is a medium-dark, muted magenta with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It lasted for eight hours on me.

Firefly

Firefly is a bright, light silver with subtle, cool undertones and a metallic sheen. The consistency was moderately dense but on the drier side, so fingertips or a dampened brush applied it most evenly compared to using it dry with a standard eyeshadow brush. It had good color payoff that lasted for eight hours on me.

Princess Sparkle

Princess Sparkle is a muted, dark bluish teal with cool undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good pigmentation but the consistency was denser and took a heavier hand to apply evenly to the lid. I liked using a flat, synthetic brush, but a dampened, fluffy brush could work as well. It stayed on well for eight hours.

Do you think that if we regularly use something like Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy or Too Faced Glitter Glue, that the two F glitter shadows would be better?

Christina D. Avatar

I like one or two of the colors and if it wasn’t MLP I might make a purchase. At the risk of sounding ancient, I was too old for MLP in the 80s and I’m sure as heck too old for it now.

kjh Avatar

I’m off, too. Too many poor shades, and many of the rest are fussy. I would have depotted, but that can be more of an adventure w/the bigger CPs. Not entirely bummed to write it…or anything else off at present.

Nancy T Avatar

Owch, ColourPop!!! To screw up a light duochrome lavender and a light coral shimmer is inexcusable. Now, I’m not so sure about buying it. If I did, now it would be more out of nostalgia remembering my once little baby girl. Thinking that I ought to hold tight to get the ND Lila and the ABH Prism palettes instead for the actual shade families and then some? Patience is not my best virtue, though!

Veronica Avatar

Shame about those F grade ones. BUT ALSO: why wouldn’t you take the opportunity to call the purple one smooze? DON’T FORGET THE SMOOZE.

TKB Avatar

I would live to get this. I’m an 80s 90s child. My kids watch a newer vision of the my little phonies. I just fear the “what is a 35 year old doing with that” lol

Alexis Avatar

I wanted to get this palette mainly for the coral and the duo chrome purple. This is definitely a hard pass. Thanks so much for a quick review! Once again, my bank account thanks you 🙂

Vanessa Avatar

Of course the two colours I wanted this palette for are the ones that get an F! Oh well, guess I’ll just have a look at the dupes for the two shadows. It’s a shame they performed poorly, they are gorgeous colours!

Thank you so much for the in depth review as always, I really appreciate it 🙂

Claire Avatar

Thanks so much for having the review up so fast! Its so cute and cheap I still bought it, but I feel much better knowing what to expect. I can enjoy it for what it is instead of being disappointed.

Reka Avatar

I’m genuinely torn about this. I don’t particularly care for the packaging (I think my baby sister had one of these, and I’m kind of glad that they didn’t use the new ponies who don’t look even vaguely horse-like anymore and kind of creep me out), but I LOVE brights. I think I need to go through the dupes rationally instead of letting my “brights – want!!” instinct run wild.

Jessicca Avatar

Hi, I thought you should know that you’ve mislabeled all the shadow colors in this post. It appears that you did your review left to right with the palette open; upon turning the palette over these colors are in reverse order, so you must label them right to left. For example, Bluebell is actually the lavender shade, not Butterscotch as you have it labeled.

Christine Avatar

Hi Jessicca,

Are you sure? Here are ColourPop’s descriptions:

Butterscotch: white with subtle pink violet opalescent sheen (what I have displayed: light, cool lavender)
Blossom: metallic peach with pink and gold duochrome finish (what I have displayed: coral-orange)
Starshine: metallic golden tangerine (what I have displayed: orange)
Bluebell: satin golden ivory (what I have displayed: warm beige)
Applejack: matte dusty red violet (what I have displayed: medium-dark pink)
Skydancer: metallic bright icy lavender (what I have displayed: lavender)
Minty: matte cool-toned fuchsia (what I have displayed: dark magenta)
Flutterbye: matte true pastel peach (what I have displayed: peach)
Twilight: satin deep blackened violet (what I have displayed: deep purple)
Firefly: metallic silvery baby blue (what I have displayed: bright silver)
Snuzzle: metallic icy white with opalescent blue duochrome (what I have displayed: duochrome white)
Princess Sparkle: metallic rich smokey turquoise (what I have displayed: bluish teal)

The eyeshadows as I have them line up with ColourPop’s descriptions…

Christine Avatar

Also, here’s ColourPop’s place to purchase: https://colourpop.com/collections/crystal-1/products/my-little-pony-palette

And they have their swatches labeled as I have the eyeshadows labeled here – e.g. Butterscotchy is lavender/Bluebell is ivory. Alternative, Princess Sparkle (bottom right most shade) is teal, just like I have it (if it was reversed, it wouldn’t be teal!).

We try to approve comments within 24 hours (and reply to them within 72 hours) but can sometimes get behind and appreciate your patience! 🙂 If you have general feedback, product review requests, off-topic questions, or need technical support, please contact us directly. Thank you for your patience!
