ColourPop Grandeur Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Grandeur
ColourPop Grandeur 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($14.00 for 0.36 oz.) includes three shimmery eyeshadows, five (mostly) matte eyeshadows, and one pressed glitter (which isn’t intended for eye usage). As long as you’re someone who doesn’t mind some fallout from the sparkling matte finish ColourPop likes to use these days, I think the palette is pigmented, easy to use, and had good wear.

Velvet
Velvet is a light brown with muted, warmer undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was somewhat powdery in the pan, but it only sheered out slightly during application (from its initial opaque coverage) and could be built up with less than half of a layer on top. The eyeshadow was easy to apply and blend out. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Formula Overview
$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce
The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.
The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Haus
Haus is a light gold with strong, warm undertones and a frosted finish. The consistency was somewhat drier, which led to a frostier finish that emphasized skin texture slightly and was more prone to fallout during application. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that lasted well for eight hours on me.

Dusk
Duskis a light-medium brown with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, which applied well to bare skin and blended out beautifully. The texture was lightly powdery but velvety and substantial, so it wasn’t prone to sheering out too readily. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Excess
Excess is a medium-dark gold glitter with a translucent base. It was listed as a Pressed Glitter and is not for use on the eye area. It had semi-opaque “coverage” in the form of glitter, and the more emollient base helped the glitter disburse evenly without sheering out immediately. It had some migration/movement when used as a cheek highlighter.

The texture was soft, slightly more loosely-pressed in the pan, but it had good adhesion and wasn’t prone to fallout. Monaco
Monaco is a green-tinted black with cooler undertones and flecks of emerald micro-sparkle over a matte finish. The eyeshadow had rich pigmentation in a single layer, though the sparkles did not bind as well with the underlying pigment, so there was light fallout during application and less translated onto the lid. It really had to patted and pressed into place with blending kept only to the outermost edges to show sparkle, which later added to fallout over the eight hours it wore for.

Monaco is really pretty.
I agree!
This reminds me a lot of one of my all-time favorite ColourPop palettes, the discontinued Brown Sugar palette. I’m glad to see they’ve put out something with a similar feel, although I know there are many of us who will not get any use out of the glitter shade.
ColourPop did a great one with this palette! I like the decadent and classy packaging and the sophisticated, dark shades.
I would see myself using it quite often 🙂
The quality is quite present here in this latest offering from CP – and apart from the pressed glitter shade, all were pretty good. My favourite shades were Lavish and Need.
I love the multi layered eye look Christine – it is beautiful.
Good quality. I like it, but I can easily live without it. I’m just not getting moved to much by this one.
Hi Christine! I’ve been following your posts on glitter and makeup usage and was just genuinely curious, would you ever wear any glitter on the eye area anymore, with a glitter glue under any circumstances? I know in the past there were some products you have used before in this particular placement. Granted, its been a few years now and with your own personal experiences, I figure it may also be a choice to bring awareness to this more recent issue and for younger audiences to be wary, which I think is great! I myself have been contemplating if I have used products in the past with glitter in them, even unknowingly but with these things like pressed glitters, I have definitely not wanted to risk potentially injury. Although I do know a few people or you tubers here and there like mel Thompson who still use glitter in the eye area….Just wondering your thoughts!
I’m paying more attention to particle size, in general, as what got stuck in my eye was very fine glitter (relative to something like this one in Grandeur), so I don’t think I’d wear larger glitters any more, just in general. For smaller glitters, possibly, depending on the base formula and the placement. Since 95% of the time I wear makeup, it is for testing, I don’t know if I would feel better or be willing to use glitter glue to wear other glitters.
What I like about this particular release is that unlinke several recent Colourpop releases, it has deeper shades and would work better on deeper skin tones as well.
As a former auburn-haired person and an Autumn I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this! This just seemed more targeted for adults than the under 18 market sector. I just got it today, I adore all the shimmer shades and after reading the review I’m never using the glitter, which is a shame. Maybe someone could explain glitter glue for eyes and how to use it and where to acquire some.
Initially I tried to use Velvet as a base color, being the lightest matte in the palette, but it was way too dark. Any suggestions as to what would work well with this palette? I do love the gold Haus color and I’ll have to get up my nerve to use the Monaco.
I appreciate that Christine still reviews Colour Pop palettes. I love some of the TF and CTilbury and Pat M, but in reality I’m never paying $75 for a makeup palette.
Hi Rhonda,
If you type in “glitter glue” into Ulta (or another retailer), you should see some pop up. It’s just a really sticky base that helps glitter adhere better – not risk-free but have more hold than anything alone! This type of base can make it harder to blend regular eyeshadows over it, so sometimes it is best for selective application or as a last step for more sparkly products in general.
Thanks! I might try the glitter included in the Grandeur palette for NYE or Halloween, but holed up in my bungalow? I’d need a color to go with my bathrobe, LOL!
BTW, I adore the Need color. I’ll have to get brave and post “a look” with it. My eyes are green with rays of gold in the center and teal outer boarders and Need looks great with them. Hooray!
Yay!!
