Gimme Butterflies

ColourPop Gimme Butterflies 12-Pan Pressed Powder Shadow Palette ($18.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that features a mix of new and repromoted shades. At a glance, it was a warmer-toned palette, but the inclusion of richer reds and pinks gave it more of a mixed tone in practice. Aside from the Pressed Glitters, the remaining shades were pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing with little to critique. If they’re the type of colors you’d wear and don’t exist in your stash, it’s certainly worth considering.

It includes two Pressed Glitters and two Pressed Pigments, all of which are not intended for use in the immediate eye area.

UR a Catch

UR a Catch is a pale, warmer gold with a soft, pearly sheen. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly to bare skin and blended out well. There was a bit of slip to it, but it seemed a little too powder-like by touch alone to be a Super Shock Shadow. It wore nicely for eight hours on me before fading a bit.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Making Moves

Making Moves is a bright, orange-coral with a matte finish and warm undertones. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out without difficulty.

The consistency was somewhat powdery, so I’d be careful to tap off excess product to avoid potential fallout, though it had good adhesion regardless. It lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

Winged

Winged is a medium pink with subtle, warm undertones in its base paired with much warmer, gold shimmer and micro-sparkle throughout. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage that adhered evenly to bare skin, which was surprisingly as it seemed more loosely-pressed in the pan.

I recommend patting and gently pressing the product into place rather than sweeping it on, though. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading was noticeable.

Get Lost

Get Lost has a translucent base with a mix of fine, iridescent white gold glitter, small, hexagon-shaped gold glitter, and then large, hexagon-shaped multi-colored glitter. The larger glitters made it harder to apply evenly and were the pieces most likely to fallout/migrate.

The smaller pieces had better spreadability and went on evenly, which gave the product more medium coverage. There was light migration/fallout over an eight-hour period. It contains plastic glitter and is not intended for use on the eye area.

Ingredients

Polyethylene Terephthalate, Dimethicone, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Polybutylene Terephthalate, Polyurethane 33, Lauroyl Lysine, Magnesium Myristate, Acrylate Copolymers, Ethylene/Va Copolymer, Chlorphenesin, Dehydroacetic ACId, Aluminum. May Contain: Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492), Red 7 (CI 15850), Red 34 (CI 15880), Yellow 5 (CI 19140).

Disclaimer: Ingredient lists are as available by the brand (or retailer) at the time of publishing. Please always check product packaging, if it exists, for the ingredient list applicable to the product you're purchasing, or the brand or retailer's website for the most up-to-date ingredient list.

NOTICE: All products categorized under "Glitter" contain Polyethylene Terephthalate, also known as plastic or PET glitter, and it is typically cosmetic grade glitter. Inclusion of this ingredient sometimes carries a warning (in the US) that the product is "not intended for use in the immediate eye area." This ingredient has not been approved for usage on the eyes per the FDA. In recent years, some brands are including this product in their eyeshadows without any warning or callout and effectively marketing them as eyeshadows or including a symbol of an "eye" which suggests eye usage. Via CosIng for EU, PET glitter is permitted without any restrictions or limitations. For an in-depth look at whether cosmetic grade glitter is safe, please view this post.

Glider

Glider is a bright, medium-dark red with strong, cool pink undertones and a matte finish. The texture felt soft, velvety, and was more substantial, so I’d use a lighter hand when picking up product to avoid possible fallout as a little went a long way. It had rich color coverage that wore well for nine hours before fading a bit, though it left a faint stain behind.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing." The way the Pressed Pigments differ is that they're not intended for usage on the immediate eye area.

The majority of the shades are semi-opaque to opaque in coverage, blend out fairly well, and can sometimes be a bit drier/more powdery compared to typical matte shades. They often wear eight to nine hours on me before fading, but many shades in the Pressed Pigment family leave some staining behind.

Browse all of our ColourPop Pressed Powder Pigment swatches.

NOTICE: All products categorized under "Pigment" carry a warning in the US that the product is "not intended for use in the immediate eye area." Brands in the US typically market these products as "Pigments" (instead of "Eyeshadow"), and there is often a warning on the back of packaging or the label. The product includes color additives that are not approved for usage on the eyes per the FDA. Some color additives in "Pigments" have no usage restrictions in the EU, per CosIng, and can be used on the eyes. We recommend checking ingredients to confirm current safety assessment/restrictions: FDA/CosIng.

Overpacked

Overpacked is a multi-colored glitter over a translucent base but reads primarily as a warmer pink glitter with some multi-colored particles mixed in. It had small-sized glitter–larger than shimmer or sparkle but not the larger, more visually noticeable hexagon-shaped glitter that the brand sometimes releases.

It had medium to semi-opaque “coverage” in a single layer. The product had good spreadability, and while it had better wear than glitters of the past, there was still some migration/fallout over eight hours. It contains plastic glitter and is not intended for use on the eye area.

Bloomin'

Bloomin’ is a muted, medium-dark plum with moderate, warm undertones and flecks of gold micro-sparkle over a matte finish. The sparkles tended to get trapped in my brush and otherwise disappeared when applied and blended out, so it was functionally a matte finish in practice.

The texture was slightly thinner and stiffer in the pan with a bit of dryness. It had good color coverage that was buildable to opaque pigmentation with two layers. This shade stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Colour Pop sure loves their pink themed, pressed glitter palettes. Actually, this palette would rate fairly well if it didn’t have the pressed glitter shades in it, if the brand used a shimmer or a duochrome instead it would be much better.
Thank you for the review Christine.

I feel like having the same vague warning for the big chunky glitters as they have for the eyeshadow shades with “for EU eyes only” pigments… is maybe not a very good idea? But then I don’t think repeatedly putting glitters in eyeshadow palettes is a good idea anyway, so… :/ (Every time I see them it’s a visceral feeling like when I put in a contact lens wrong and my eye tries to roll as far back as possible to get away from it. It’s really putting me off looking at Colourpop stuff now)
