ColourPop Evil Queen & Ursula Matte Lux Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Evil Queen
ColourPop Evil Queen Matte Lux Lipstick ($7.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark red with strong, cool undertones and a flat, matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a dense, slightly firmer consistency that didn’t drag but didn’t feel as velvety as other shades in the range. I didn’t find it uncomfortable to apply or to wear, as it was still lightweight without clinging onto my lips. Thankfully, that also meant that it didn’t emphasize my lip texture or my lip lines. The color was still going strong after six hours of wear, left a strong, reddish stain behind, and was neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$8.00/0.12 oz. - $66.67 Per Ounce
The Matte Lux formula is supposed to have a "velvet matte" finish that's "long-wearing" with "intense pigmentation and a soft blurring finish." Most of the shades are quite pigmented with four to six hour wear and a non-drying feel. The texture varied a bit as some shades were smooth, velvety, and thin without emphasizing my lip lines or pulling into them but several separated along my lip lines noticeably or color settled into my lip lines over time. I didn't get much scent from them--possibly subtle sweetness--and no discernible taste.

Ursula
ColourPop Ursula Matte Lux Lipstick ($7.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark burgundy with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It didn’t seem to have the true, matte finish, though I find a lot of the Matte Lux shades have a bit of shine that wears down to a more matte finish within an hour of wear. The texture was smooth, velvety, and dense without being heavy or thick when applied to my lips. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that adhered evenly and didn’t sink noticeably into my lip lines over time. The color stayed on nicely for six hours, left a faint, reddish stain behind, and was neither drying nor hydrating over time.

So wonderful…. I like both. Ursula feels just right, like it hits a certain vampy sweet spot!
Ah, the GORGEOUSNESS!!! Love both, but because they went “safe” with Ursula, I have 2 dupes. When I think of Ursula, I imagine a deep blackened purple, not burgundy.
They nailed Evil Queen perfectly, though! So, even though I have MAC Blue Blood, I may just get this one because it looks like the perfect winter shade of red.
Wow, I wasn’t planning on purchasing anything from the CP x Disney Villains collections, but I might have to after seeing these two shades. Both are gorgeous and look so pigmented. I’m leaning toward Evil Queen, as it looks slightly more unique to me. But, gosh, it’s hard to find a shade like Ursula that gets it right!
Evil Queen is perfection.
Bought both of these last week before I read your review. Swatched them at Ulta but bought on CP website because I didn’t want the sets. Ursula x Shadow Man is SOOO pretty! Can’t wait to get them, trying not to be impatient but failing! Picked up Bad Apple to go with Evil Queen, naturally…
If these weren’t matte lippies, I would be buying both. They are glorious shades.
You went full Ursula on the Ursula photo! 🙂 (I didn’t compare to the eye palette, just assuming that the purple tones belong to her.)
I have to keep repeating to myself that I have enough reds. More than enough reds. For several lifetimes. Evil Queen and Shadow Man *WILL NOT* complete me — NOT!!! I mean it… Seriously … :-/
