ColourPop Avenue & Bumble Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
ColourPop Avenue Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick
ColourPop Avenue Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep yellow red.” It’s a slightly muted, medium-dark burgundy red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The texture was thin, slightly watery, but it was manageable for application. The color applied with semi-opaque coverage that went on quite evenly despite the watery consistency. It lasted for almost eight hours, was lightly drying over time, and tended to fade faster from the center of the lips. NARS Just Push Play (P, $26.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). NARS Infatuated Red (P, $27.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). Chanel Experimente (154) (P, $45.00) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop Goldie (P, $6.00) is darker (90% similar). ColourPop Bumble Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “dusty warm terracotta.” It’s a muted, medium rosy pink with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich, opaque color coverage that applied smoothly. The color lasted for eight hours and was slightly drying over time, and it had a few flakes of color come off while I wore it (which isn’t too bad). KVD Beauty Double Dare (P, $20.00)(100% similar). Milani Beloved (LE, $8.99) is warmer (90% similar). Make Up For Ever #4 (DC, $19.00) is glossier (90% similar). Tarte Beach Bum (P, $22.00) is glossier (90% similar). ColourPop Dreamy (PiP, $7.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Maybelline Nude Nuance (P, $7.99) is warmer, glossier (85% similar). Urban Decay Fade (P, $22.00) is darker (85% similar). NARS Walkyrie (P, $27.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). NARS Bahama (P, $27.00) is more muted, cooler (85% similar). KVD Beauty Lolita II (P, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). KVD Beauty Lolita II (DC, $21.00) is more muted (85% similar). ColourPop Frick 'n' Frack (P, $7.00) is lighter, less glossy (80% similar). Charlotte Tilbury MI Kiss (was Bond Girl) (P, $37.00) is darker, glossier (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Formula Summary: ColourPop Ultra Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a long-wearing, pigmented lipstick that starts off glossy and dries down quickly to that super flat matte finish. They have minimal transfer with some of the lighter shades having almost none for the first few hours of wear, but any time you’ve had a meal, they lose that transfer-resistant quality to a noticeable degree. They tend to wear anywhere from six to ten hours with darker shades maintaining better color coverage and wear over a longer period of time. Some shades get a little drying about two-thirds to three-fourths through the wear, while a few shades have been fairly non-drying even many hours into wear. They fade away evenly with most color loss occurring from the center of the lips if eating a more oil-based meal but the majority of color survives a meal. Reapplication has been hit or miss and tends to depend on how well it wore away and how easily the shade applies normally, but reapplication tends to emphasize the lip’s natural texture significantly compared to initial application and gives lips a very wrinkled, dried-up look. I’ve layered gloss on top of some shades with moderate success, though it will obviously lose the matte finish and will transfer and I’ll get tiny flakes where the matte lip color has lifted by mixing with gloss but has been pretty minimal. The formula had no discernible taste or scent.

Bumble is a such a pretty colour! I’m not fond of liquid-matte lipsticks but I could see myself making an exception for Bumble.
It’s definitely not a look that everyone loves!
Both colors are pretty, Avenue for a bold look and Bumble for an everyday look
They are! Very fall-ish!
Bumble is lovely. I just ordered Bumble along with two of the limited edition shades (Guess and Be Dazzled) and I can’t wait for them to get here!
Can’t wait for you to get your goodies, Miss Jae!
Those are limited edition? I was hoping to score Clueless, but I want to wait until I get back to my school address to order! 🙁
Yup! But I heard from a little birdie that they were going to have a restock. Make sure that you’re following ColourPopCult on Instagram for the latest news!
Okay great! Hopefully I’ll get to grab it! And thanks for the heads up!
I just place an order for those…. I thought they were permanant. lol I got most of the new shades actually, because I was craving blues and teals. 😉
I think I’ll be trying Double Dare instead of Bumble.
🙂
I love these shades! I can’t wait to make an order for these, Tulle and Solow!
Yayyyyy! 😀
Ooooh Bumble looks very pretty on you.
Thank you, Melissa!
Bumble is pretty! These are a hit or miss for me. I love Tulle and Solow is ok but I’m not having much luck with Mars and Ouiji. They apply so streaky and I feel like I can’t get them completely opaque without looking clown-like! Maybe I should just stay away from the neon colors… #thestruggle
Awwww! I’m glad two are nice, but it sucks that they’re not consistently good!
I just love Bumble, it’s the perfect ruddy red on me. It seems to be one of those colors that looks very different on other skintones.
The weartime on these Ultra Mattes continues to impress me as I figure out how to best apply them. I had Ouiji last from 7pm last night all the way through to this morning!
Love the site redesign, it’s very sleek and easy to navigate! Good job!
Wow!! That is long-wearing 😉
Thank you, Molly!
Thanks for the dupe list! I almost purchased Bumble yesterday, while my order for Kav Von D Double Dare is on its way 🙂 Glad I did not!
No problem!
I love both of these. Are you planning to review the colors they just added? There’s a dark blue, a green, a bright purple, and a few others.
I purchased them, but I don’t have them, sorry!
No worries. I was just curious.
Avenue is gorgeous! Reminds me of MAC’s Dubonnet. Still looking for a matte version, this might be it! 🙂 I can handle some dryness on my lips. Thanks for the swatches! 🙂
Fingers crossed this is the one!
I just ordered a bunch of the ColourPop liquid lipsticks and I have to say that I’m so impressed! I got these two colours in addition to Tulle, Lax, and Limbo and none have let me down yet.
Awesome to hear, Lexie! Which one is your absolute fave?
I like both. But Bumble especially. Very pretty. I actually wore KVD Lolita all day today. I like to top it with BITE’s Opal lipstick at the end. It gives it a 90’s vibe and a little moisture. I’m going to put Double Dare on my potential wish list if this test run continues to go smooth. 🙂
How pretty!! How did Lolita feel for you, Nicole? Did Bite’s Opal help?
It felt fine for me actually! I have been using the BITE agave mask nightly and I put it on again today while I did the rest of my makeup. So, my lips were nice and hydrated going in. I wore it all day, from about 8am, and it was still on pretty well (even through a light lunch )at around 6. It could have used a touch up at that point. I do use a liner with them too. So, I’m sure that helped. As far as Opal, I like to pat that on when it starts to get a little bothersome-dry feeling. Which, for me seems to be at around 4-5 hours. It looks pretty cool though.
Thank you!!
Ooh, I like the idea of putting BITE Opal on top of these ultra matte lippies! Did it affect the wear time ?
I think it probably does break the liquid lipstick down a little. But, I still get a few hours with a good amount of a stained look at least. That’s why I try to wait until the dryness is just to where I’m going to have to reapply and I want to stretch it or I want the moisture and or a different look. If you just pat it on though, it doesn’t break it down like gloss does. Gloss just takes it off.
Thanks for the tip Nicole! I was hesitating on these liquid lipsticks (not a big fan of the ultra matte look, the dryness, and re-applying can be a pain) but putting BITE Opal on top sounds genius. I’m willing to sacrifice some wear time for some shine and hydration. I’m going to try one of the Kat Von D ones. Dang, I might have to get a backup of BITE Opal too if it works well with these LOL
Glad to of helped Katherine! You have certainly helped me out of many beauty conundrums as well. I think KVD is the best way to go with these. Just some things that I find to make the application go smoother: I like to use a lip liner . They tend to look more opaque if they are not fully. I found layering tends to look dryer for me. I like to have a lip brush near. I noticed in Kat’s video she applies with a brush. I use the brush to smooth it out and get the angles. Have a makeup remover close just in case and a tough up concealer or foundation. Once you get it on though in the am, you are typically set for the day or at least most of the day. If you are a rockstar, well, you are probably gong to have to re do it a second round. I like them because I can go run around to the mall and lunch and stuff and not fuss with my lipstick. They are fun! Give them a go! 🙂 I’m excited to try some of the new shades. But, I still love my regular lippies. I feel like I am going to need a computer generated schedule to keep them all in a rotation! lol
Thanks for the tips, Nicole! Very helpful !! I will definitely give it a try
These seem much more forgiving than the Kat von D version.
I think KVD is easier to apply if you aren’t familiar with liquid lipstick – CP’s dry down makes it harder to get right as you don’t have the time to fix mistakes.
Actually there so similar I’m wondering does the KVD feel better on the lips? I think I’ll grab a few more KVD shades but I’m wondering if Double Dare feels better on the lips then Bumble.
It’s more… pliable? If that makes sense. Flexible is probably a better word — KVD formula moves better with the lips than CP overall.
I like both colors but Bumble has a slight lead. The paints do seem to last longer for me.
At least you get the longevity promised!
Love that Avenue colour – it is gorgeous. But I prefer lipsticks to liquid lip glosses. I am sure Colour Pop has this shade in their lipstick range. They both look great on you Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Pretty but I just cant get into the finishes.
I totally understand! They’re not for everyone.
Thank you so much for this review. I was hesitant to get this a try since there are mix reviews here and there. But seeing you like this, I might give it a try. Bumble and Sollow is on my list 😀
No problem, Lenny! xo
How does Icon liquid lipstick by Hourglass compare to Avenue?
I don’t think I have Icon!
Bumble is lovely. I’m still waiting on feedback and reviews to buy a liquid lipstick… Will you be reviewing the new Milani liquid lipsticks, Christine? 🙂 If so, I’ll wait for your reviews!
Hopefully, but they’re already sold out for the most part so I’m not sure.
I have been following your blog for quite a while now but this is my first comment. I enjoy your reviews throughly and this is my go to blog for reviews on any product that I want to try. I recently ordered these two colours from colourpop along with few others and I think colourpop is a great way to experience different textures and colours as the price is quite affordable. Looking forward to receive my order!
Fingers crossed you enjoy your new CP goodies!! 🙂 Did you get anything other than the Ultra Mattes?
I’m a little confused by this: “Kat Von D Double Dare (P, $20.00) is better quality, lower quality (100% similar).”
It’s pulling all the data on the dupe, but we need to change it so it is only pulling my vote (there are 7 votes on that dupe!).
Hi Christine! You may want to note that there’s a typo in your header. Love your swatches, as always. I have bumble and it’s lovely 😀
Thank you!
